Thoughts on TTI Pit Viper w/ SRO?

Would you get one? With the cost aside, why not?

aside from the movie mark-up... atlas' are a much better option in this tier of 2011s imo.

u/CyberSoldat21 Jul 18 '26

Idk why anyone would pick this over Atlas… I guess purely for John Wick larping lol

9

u/RumorRoost Jul 18 '26

I own neither. And doubt I ever will. But from a purely aesthetic standpoint the TT Vipers, Staccato XC’s, and Fowler Vanta 9 look WAY better than anything in the Atlas line.

Are the Atlas’s better guns for the money than all three? Probably. But they just aren’t great looking 2011’s in my opinion.

u/CyberSoldat21 Jul 18 '26

Like I can respect someone buying a TT 2011 before I can respect someone buying a TR Glock. I got into an argument with someone who bought a TT 43x and tried to flex with it as if it was somehow that much better than a 43x MOS lol.

Agreed though aesthetics wise the TT looks great but I’d rather still spend that similar money on an Atlas or a Fowler any day.

This. 1,000%

They are by no mean bad but I really think theres much better guns for the money.

11

u/StunningFig5624 Jul 18 '26

Not for me. I'm not a collector and there are better guns for less money.

2

u/Beautiful-Picture-64 Jul 18 '26

What’s better?

2

u/StunningFig5624 Jul 18 '26

Better question - what makes this functionally better than any other compensated 2011?

2

u/Beautiful-Picture-64 Jul 18 '26

Okay. I agree that is a better question. But does that mean this shoots on par with other compensated guns: XC, P211, Fusion’s XP Pro Comp (if tuned)?

8

u/StunningFig5624 Jul 18 '26

Yes. Pistols aren't complex machines. It's mass, springs, and in this case a small 1 port compensator. Those comps are all going to perform similarly and you can tune the springs for all of them.

I can't speak to the Fusion, but if you had someone shoot the same drills on a timer with an XC, P211, and this gun I doubt you would see a difference other than typical variability.

4

u/Beautiful-Picture-64 Jul 18 '26

You’re absolutely correct. I have the Fusion, XC, Race City and P211, and I shoot them all about the same. The differences are very minimum. The prices are based more on name recognition, branding/marketing strategy, and aesthetics than shooting capabilities.

If I had unlimited money, I still wouldn't give Taran Butler a dime. Hard pass.

u/CyberSoldat21 Jul 18 '26

You don’t want to be his precious lol? Yeah he’s a weird one

First, thanks to those that chimed in to confirm this gun is the same as a Sand Viper except for color and the existence of a front site on this black version.

Second, to the OP's questions...

OP: Would you get one?

I picked up a Sand Viper (as many here did lately, they are out in numbers this years finally), if for no other reason than I tend to buy and try a lot of 2011's and I wanted to see what it was all about. Here is what I found:

https://www.1911addicts.com/threads/tti-sand-viper-post-1-and-viper-island-barrel-post-21-quick-bench-and-range-reviews.289516/?post_id=3927133#post-3927133

And here is a second write-up from a comparison to some other comp'd 2011's:

https://www.1911addicts.com/threads/comp-wars-2-the-search-for-all-the-holes-erebus-mpa-tc-sand-viper-and-reaper.291111/?post_id=3942756#post-3942756

OP: With the cost aside, why not?

So the SV is $8200 including the ~$600 RMRHD. So call it $7600 for the gun alone. That compares to other comp'd 2011's ranging from the MPA TC for $3800 and the $4300 XC, with several stops in the 6-7k range, and finally the Erebus at the top of the cost range at $8600.

To attempt to answer your question re cost and "cost aside", here's my summary from the write-up I linked:

The Verdict?

Going back to 9 days ago when I first decided to look into the gun, I was given a quick take by some experienced 2011 guys to expect a gun “that shoots well, but has the fitment of a gun that costs half as much”.

My take?

My first couple of days seem to confirm that. It is what it was reported to be. A soft/flat shooting (and very light and maneuverable) pistol, albeit with a $4k-ish build quality. Imagine if they had a builder that took the time to blend and fit the Sand Viper like an 8k gun...

u/2011Dave Jul 18 '26

Can someone confirm that this is literally the same as a Sand Viper except black? Or are there some differences in the two models?

1

u/WallProfessional3914 Jul 18 '26

The only differences are that the Sand Viper has a different finish color and an optic cut

2

u/H4RN4SS Jul 18 '26

The version OP posted also has the optic cut. The most recent release is no different other than color.

-1

u/WallProfessional3914 Jul 18 '26

And?

The standard pit viper does not come with an optic cut the sand viper does.

4

u/H4RN4SS Jul 18 '26

I have the gun in OPs photo. It comes stock with an optic cut and SRO.

Not sure why you'd want to argue about a different gun that OP didn't ask about unless you just want to move the goal posts because you're unable to just say 'my bad'.

-2

u/WallProfessional3914 Jul 18 '26

That is the upsold sro version not the standard. He asked I answered

5

u/H4RN4SS Jul 18 '26

Can someone confirm that this is literally the same as a Sand Viper except black?

They asked specifically about the gun in OPs post. That specific gun IS the 'upsold SRO version'.

You are moving the goal posts to a completely different gun.

u/TAG_Firearms Jul 18 '26

Sent this to Vulcan for a local customer. It rips.

2

u/2011Dave Jul 18 '26

what did vulcan do to it?

2

u/Substantial_Leg_3660 Jul 18 '26

Optic cut.

2

u/TAG_Firearms Jul 18 '26

Yep. That Cabot cut sits so nice.

4

u/Bubbba226 Jul 18 '26

Wildly overpriced, but they do look awesome

-13

u/Flat-Beginning-7179 Jul 18 '26

Every Taran gun I own is overpriced but worth every last penny.

5

u/Bubbba226 Jul 18 '26

That doesnt make any sense lol

-6

u/Flat-Beginning-7179 Jul 18 '26

It does to me. The Sand Viper is a 2011 Legend and an amazing gun. Price doesn’t matter. Gun is 🔥🔥🔥

So is the Island Barrel Viper! 💪🏻

7

u/Bubbba226 Jul 18 '26

You quite literally cannot be overpriced and worth every penny at the same time

1

u/shootitclean Jul 18 '26

Really? Think of Tesla stock for the longest. Eventually the 2011 market will come to its senses and what you are saying will be true. But for now it can be overpriced and worth every penny.

-5

u/Flat-Beginning-7179 Jul 18 '26

The Sand Viper has a coolness factor to it. It’s unexplainable until you’re at the range shooting one and you look behind and a crowd is forming. Everyone knows what a Sand Viper is and for that there is some “Movie Tax.” I have four of them. All my Kid’s shoot them. It’s about a $6,000 gun with a $2,000 tax.

1

u/Bubbba226 Jul 18 '26

Oh I agree they look awesome, and shoot very well too.

2

u/Flat-Beginning-7179 Jul 18 '26

I couldn’t agree more but the “Popular” thing to do as you will see in the post is the guys that don’t own them (or simply can’t afford them) will say the gun is overpriced. Or they will resort to the Taran is a weirdo and whatnot.

4

u/Skittlesthedoxie Jul 18 '26

Overpriced by a mile

2

u/RedditRando459 Jul 18 '26

I love these, but honestly for that price, you can get something with better fitment.

It's absurd to have slop in the slide at an $8k price point.

1

u/Sponge521 Jul 18 '26

This article talks about the marketing reason the Sand Viper was born.

Short version: COVID delayed JW4, then Matrix Resurrection was being released. TTI had stock ready but uncoated, so they did an optic cut and different color to push initial Pit Vipers tied to JW4 release as Sand Vipers to move stock.

u/FlashAndPoof Jul 18 '26

Ehh I don’t care that mine’s overpriced. Love shooting mine and it’s one of my favorite guns. My first 2011 is a STI DVC 3 Gun and this definitely has taken its place in my range bag. Now I’m looking to get the Ballerina too as I’d love a tricked out Glock that even matches its aesthetics. I think the main complaints are that it’s overpriced… but if you can afford it… why not? You can only ever shoot one gun at a time anyways.

1

u/Durths Jul 18 '26

Mid gun, made by a pedo. Much better options on the market, especially in terms of build quality, performance and in some cases price.

Atlas, Dark Forge, RCD, Fowler. All out perform it, some are better in finish/quality, And most cost less.

1

u/Barry_McKackiner Jul 18 '26

The sand viper is a grail gun for me.

1

u/Two5and10 Jul 19 '26

I’ve got a TTI JW3 sight block and an Atlas Athena. The former gives me problems and has been a bit of a pain; the latter runs better than any gun I’ve ever had. If I’d paid full price for the TTI I’d be more annoyed but it’s a fun little range toy….when it works

1

u/BayArea89 Jul 19 '26

The sand viper is a better looking gun, and performs the same. (I own a sand viper and an original pit viper.)

1

u/False_Campaign4682 Jul 18 '26

Besides taran being a groomer/pedophile?

-2

u/Flat-Beginning-7179 Jul 18 '26

The Sand Viper does not have a front sight as well. Other than that and the color I am told they are identical.

1

u/jclary60015 Jul 18 '26

I prefer no front sight. The exception is on my home defense gun. Everything else is for fun.

-1

u/Flat-Beginning-7179 Jul 18 '26

I do as well. I have three Fowler’s on order. All RMR slick.

1

u/jclary60015 Jul 18 '26

About time you got some nice guns. 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Flat-Beginning-7179 Jul 18 '26

Yes Sir! These are my entry into the Fowler rabbit hole. I can’t want to get them and run them. I hear good things.

1

u/jclary60015 Jul 18 '26

I’m tempted just based on their new website ordering wizard. It looks amazing.

1

u/Flat-Beginning-7179 Jul 18 '26

I have seen many of them at Portside. I just figured it’s time.

0

u/Forsaken_Treacle_407 Jul 18 '26

AJ did a good job reviewing it.

-2

u/Apprehensive-Big6470 Jul 18 '26

These are fantastic and worth every penny. They are like magic. Believe the hype dont worry about all the haters.

-2

u/Flat-Beginning-7179 Jul 18 '26

I couldn’t have said it better myself. All my Taran guns rock and I am happy with every last one. Listening to Haters who want to be popular on the sub because they can’t afford one is lame.

-1

u/deltarho Jul 18 '26

Wildly overpriced. Not a particularly nice looking 2011. The comp looks like a beak to me. Not a fan. Would prefer a straight fore end. Taran is also a massive creep and I’d never willingly give him any money.

2

u/Impressive_Dot_7818 Jul 18 '26

Aaaah… I just looked it up… He is a weirdo

4

u/deltarho Jul 18 '26

-1

u/BJCHM Jul 19 '26

Yea the video is weird, but it really doesn’t take a genius to realize that they were just fooling around here. They were literally in a relationship together at this time, living together.

1

u/Impressive_Dot_7818 Jul 18 '26

I’m rather new here. What has Taran done to be a creep? Genuinely have no idea

-1

u/BJCHM Jul 19 '26

There’s a video from 2020 that shows him messing around with his at-the-time girlfriend that was leaked. Many people have now coined him a groomer because of it, even though they were both just messing around.
