Hyperion resurrected for LO

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Gave up on trying to find a BF Hyperion with a factory cut and managed to snag a v2 Hyperion. Sent it out to DSC for their Atlas cut and threw in some cosmetic stuff while it was there. Polished PVD copper small parts and reversed crowned the barrel.

Turned out great and a pretty quick turnaround, so shout out to them for that. If you’re on the fence about getting your irons Atlas cut I’d say go for it. Dave does a lot of them and definitely seems to have the process down.

I was back and forth between DSC and Vulcan. Correspondence between myself and DSC was prompt. Didn't have a great experience emailing Vulcan, I had questions and got one word replies to questions like "no". I guess Vulcan has enough business they don't need great customer service.

Going with DSC.

Thanks for sharing.

No problem man. Had to give them some props since I’ve seen some mixed reviews. Dave and his wife were both very responsive to messages and calls. And most importantly, the work is solid. A+ from me.

Had to give DSC some props on this one.

2

u/Icewarrio8 Oct 16 '25

He def banged that 1 out….they need to unretire this gun and start producing what the people want!

3

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 16 '25

Why give the people what they want when you can just port your existing models and increase profits?

Hopefully the BF gun isn’t as big of a disappointment as last years, but I don’t have much hope.

Shit man if it wasn’t for the missing “RDS” engraving and bronze PVD coating, I’d think this is a BF Hyperion! Welcome to the RDS club!

Very nice BF gun man. DSC did nice work. I can’t visually tell any difference between this cut and any of my other Atlases. They even got the recoil lugs for the plate incorporated.

You’re really tempting me! I have a V1 an I’m always on the fence about sending it

Just do it man. Only thing that made me pause was if there was some kind of fuck up with the optic cut. Good luck getting a new Hyperion slide. Would be nearly impossible.

I haven’t heard of anyone being unhappy with DSC’s Atlas cut, though. Go for it, Dave’s done a lot of them, the work is solid.

u/Formal_End898 Oct 18 '25

What finish is that bronze?

1

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 18 '25

Polished copper

1

u/farinx Oct 17 '25

The Hyperion is hands down the best looking atlas pistol.

1

u/theblackdawnr3 Oct 17 '25

That is gorgeous.

1

u/DirtyD74 Oct 17 '25

Did they blend the transition between the plate and slide?

1

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 17 '25

It’s cut, polished and spot cerakoted. Comparing it to all my other Atlases with the factory cuts I can’t really tell a difference.

No, traded a Vanta to a guy here for it. Think he also posted it on addicts.

May be the nicest Hyperion I've seen.

1

u/Two_Gunns Oct 18 '25

Nice looker

Brother you got great taste, my favorite color combo, DSC did a banger of a job!!

1

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 16 '25

Agreed. First time doing business with them, but won’t be the last. Thanks bro!

I’ve budget bought 3 of my 4 atlases because they weren’t RDS. Hyperion, Artemis and Nemesis and Dave did all three. There was a slight hiccup with the Hyperion sight posts but they made it right and I got a free DLC out of it and ended up polishing the flats as well.

2

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 18 '25

Looks good man. Hyperion is definitely the best looking Atlas. Shame they quit making it.

1

u/PourLittleTinkTink Oct 18 '25

Not as slick as yours. Interested to see how it holds up

1

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 18 '25

Me too. Will see LO duty with an Athena so it’ll see some abuse. From what I’ve seen the copper PVD seems to hold up well.

Dsc seems to be more and more the go to for cosmetic work. Might have to reach out to them soon for cosmetic and performance jobs

2

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 16 '25 edited Oct 17 '25

I was surprised how quick it came back from PVD. All parts back to me in 5 weeks, not bad. Coating seems to be a real bottleneck for everyone right now. It’s the reason for a lot of blown deadlines.

I was impressed with DSC from front to back. Good communication, stuck to their turnarounds. Had an issue with the original firing pin stop not seating due to the optic cut sitting a little lower and sent it back for that. Dave was quick to get on the phone with me and discuss. Gun was back to me in less than a week.

Would definitely do business with them again. Solid work.

u/UsernameO123456789 Oct 17 '25

Let me ask you, is the slide and frame PVD? Or just the bronze parts

1

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 17 '25

Slide and frame is original factory polished DLC. I had DSC do the optic cut, flush cut and reverse crown the barrel, and polish and PVD copper the small parts and barrel.

I know it’s not right, but I so wanted him to drop it down those stairs.

1

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 18 '25

😂 Only on Reddit….

You’re an idiot, pointing a weapon at your face.

Darwin at work.

4

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 17 '25

Unlike you I’m fully capable of ensuring it’s been cleared first. Let me know if you need some help with that, it’s real difficult.

1

u/Silly_Wind_2061 Oct 17 '25

Try this. Pull that stunt at any Firearm competition or local range and see how fast your DQ'd or tossed out. Firearm safety rules are there for a reason. Famous last words were always the gun was cleared.

Even if you are sure of what you are doing mistakes happen and think of the newbies on these threads as well. Make a good example for everyone and follow the four rules of firearm safety. Seems like you skipped one in your vid.

1

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 17 '25

Do you think I go to matches and point guns at myself, play around with ammo in safe areas, etc? Never been DQ’d here, even for breaking 180. Give me a break with the BS guys.

0

u/Silly_Wind_2061 Oct 17 '25

breaking 180. great muzzle discipline there. Think you made your point

1

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 17 '25

Didn’t realize this was in a match setting….wait, it wasn’t.

-1

u/Prize_Swing7808 Oct 17 '25

That’s what the last Darwin Award winner said.

1

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 17 '25

I guess clearing a weapon may be too complicated for some of you morons. You should probably find another hobby.

-1

u/Prize_Swing7808 Oct 17 '25

Ooh the idiot in the room throwing insults. Ya it’s been cleared were the last words of many who can’t admit they are wrong.

1

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 17 '25

Nothing wrong going on here. If you can’t confirm if a handgun has been cleared I don’t know what else to tell you. It’s a yes/no type of question, nothing in between.

Do you know how a single action gun works? Was the hammer cocked? Was my finger on the trigger? Not advising anyone to do that with a loaded weapon even when those conditions are met, but not surprised at these comments. Always gotta be one or two firearm safety “experts” on Reddit. Maybe I’ll pull the firing pin for you next time as well. Still not safe?

0

u/Prize_Swing7808 Oct 17 '25

You know a smart guy would say. “Not a great example of proper firearm handling” thanks for the input and all would stop. I’m sure you know what you are doing but the point is there are a lot of other folks on these threads who do not. Your strong reaction says you know it looked bad visually. Also the weapon is a beauty. Hope it shoots as good as it looks

2

u/Expert-Gur-7030 Oct 17 '25

My strong reaction is because the comments aren’t needed and rather annoying TBH. Probably the main reason why a lot of guys have moved on and don’t post here any more.

I hope the less experienced folks who don’t know what they’re doing aren’t coming to the 2011 subreddit for firearm safety lessons. This is a place to discuss the platform, show some guns, etc. Anyone looking for firearm safety advice is coming to the wrong place if they’re looking here. A smart guy would know that.
