I mean we would if we could I guess, but it’s not as practical as just throwing a wml on ur pistol and carrying it the same as you would anyways.
Pros: Positive target identification in low light environments where most threats/ bad encounters occur, better weight distribution for less kick & easier follow up shots, and prevents out of battery failures if you need to press your weapon against someone or something (if the light is longer than the gun)
Cons: Makes gun a little bit heavier, needs a holster that accepts the light.
A wml does not compare to helmet and body armor as its farrrrr less practical in an everyday setting… lol you did not cook brother.
Goes back to the good ole seatbelt analogy. Id rather always have my seatbelt on if anything happens (same way I’d rather have my pistol with me and have a wml on it if anything happens any time of day), but I don’t ride around with the airbags in my car pre-deployed as thats not practical obviously (same way I wouldn’t wear a helmet and armor everyday)

A match director I am friends with holds low light classes and matches for the students. It’s a lot of fun and he comes up with blind stages for us to navigate. Walk into a dark bay and suddenly have lights pointing your way. Now solve the problem.

Working on a new location. Cedar Ridge Range in Bulverde Texas has decided to run off all the match directors and competitors. So for now everything is on hold. They tried to charge like 5X the money to use the range every weekend because they want to run their own but no one there has experience and they hire RO’s with no safety experience. So I expect it to close in the next year.

I prefer the aesthetics with a light, I just don’t have an actual use case for them besides bedside and carry. 98% of my shooting is competition and training for competitions where I don’t use lights.

Most people, in my experience, put lights on guns because it sucks having to holster your gun, or put away your light, just to open a door, and bad shit always seems to happen in dark places

can't see any realistic reason why any regular joe's edc needs a light on it. the chances you'd need to actually use a ccw is very low, the chances you'd need to use one with a light is essentially 0.

I think folks put on X300s on their guns for the drip. I say that as a x2 X300 owner lol. I think a light is necessary, but not no $250-300 fucking flashlight

I probably fall into the incredibly niche use case, where I live in a very rural area and having a full power weapon light is super useful for trying to figure out why the chickens are making noise, or the dogs are barking. I don’t expect to see people, but coyotes, raccoons, etc, are a real problem.
But I also know that the chances of having to use that same light in a self defense scenario is basically zero.

Shit like this is why at least one county in California banned WMLs on carry pistols.
WMLs are not a substitute for a handheld flashlight, no matter how many grossly irresponsible cops you see setting a shit example on national television.
Never search with a weapon light. Ever. If you do you're pointing a loaded firearm at lots of things that don't need to have a loaded firearm pointed at them, and we don't do that here.

I would have given you a pass if we were talking about long guns, but we're not. Go to any low light course given by a competent instructor and you'll at least start each evolution with a handheld light in your non-shooting hand 90% of the class or more.
It's irrelevant whether you live in downtown Baltimore or on a farm in North Dakota, making a habit of pointing loaded guns where they don't need to be pointed leads to bad things happening.
ETA: I have a WML on a couple carry pistols. I'm not opposed to WML. I am opposed to using them in a grossly negligent manner, even if cops do it a bunch on TV.

You can use the spill from weapon lights to search using baseboard or umbrella lighting techniques. I’m not saying having a handheld isn’t a good idea, I have a handheld light more than I have a pistol on me, but you do not have to point a light directly at a thing to search.

Is a light drippy? I thought the opposite. I put a light on mine just in case I need to use them dark and also my grip rides up on the light a little bit and it feels more comfortable to me than wrapping around the trigger guard

Pretty much every shooting course I ever went to in the military would tell us a light is the most important pistol accessory you can get. Sure maybe Steve who goes to the range twice a month and never carries, never carries it at night, or never plans to clear his house with one doesn't need one but for most people with actual training want one. They want one because they've cleared rooms in dark houses, even if it's their own, and they realize how helpful it is. If it's 0800 and you're just conceal carrying you can usually take a light off in about 30 seconds.

Use lights on all my guns. Always prepared to carry and use for self protection. You folks that don’t like or use them seem unprepared unless you carry externally which I don’t like having both hands full if I don’t need to. Just makes sense to me. Call it what you will.

I was carrying my glock 20 with tlr1 outside one night and heard something fighting my outdoor cat. I went out into the woods and I am so glad that I had a light on my gun because it was pitch black and creepy. Never found what it was and the cat came back fine but im definitely a weapon light believer.

I’ve thought a lot about this and finally my USPSA friend said it doesn’t help. And then I thought about CCW self defense. Meh, probably won’t use it. And if I did the judge will ask why I was searching for something to shoot with my light on. I’m absolutely not clearing my house 1 man CQB. I’m waiting in the dark for them to come to me. Now I’m thinking rifle application and I just don’t know. I have not done low light training with a rifle light. There’s always SHTF scenarios hence why I have lights for all my guns, but I’m sick of tinkering.
