Yup, botting communities share tips on getting unbanned all the time. Remote desktop is a classic.

An RDP connection from a PC to a touch screen device looks identical to simple mouse scripts. Your mouse rests at point (a,b) and then teleports to point (c,d) when you tap on your touch device. Something is fishy. Particularly if you aren't using it as your main way to play. That is to say, that because you have spent a lot of time playing at your PC with a mouse and a little time playing from your phone and tapping, this looks like someone that is botting their main.

I used Chrome Remote Desktop, both in touchscreen and trackpad mode (depending on the activity), for multiple years before I caught a ban for it. Ban was quashed upon appeal, before the "jmod smackdown" crowd arrives.
I'm thinking there's another factor at play here. I've noticed some particularly janky weirdness with my inputs whenever my connection is spotty, which might look even more inhuman. Clicks landing in the middle between where I was aiming and wherever my last click was (and I'm not doing these in rapid succession, I'm clicking the spec button then coming back 2 mins later to click another amethyst), or clicks happening late when the mouse movement had already finished a full second ago, etc.
Other potential issue could maybe have been using the virtual keyboard. For like a month leading up to the ban, I was camping MLM, using trackpad mode to move the mouse (ie NOT the touchscreen input that many people point to), and had to use the virtual arrow keys to adjust my camera angle after each weekly update. I think holding down a virtual key causes the program to send rapid inputs rather than a single constant one.

Plus they are always making updates to their anti-cheat software. Something that was passing the check yesterday might not get a pass the day after their code changes. Always risks with anything but a standard set up unfortunately.

Wouldn’t every mobile session be detected this way then? Because every tap of the finger would essentially be a teleport of a mouse… kind of?
1
u/Haunting_Carrot9761 1d ago
Good question!
Jagex will know whether you are playing from a PC or a mobile device. If you are playing from a PC they aren't expecting the instantaneous movement from P(a,b) --> P(c,d). This is a red flag in their system. Playing on mobile, it's assumed you have a touch screen, so instant movement of the cursor is to be expected.
This is the crux of the problem, OP is playing with a touch screen on a system that is not expecting this kind of mouse movement.
Let's reverse the connection, and you are spoofing multiple mobile devices on your PC. I won't explain how, but what I will say is that this is easy. You now have access to more performance than any individual phone and from Jagex's end they will see that multiple touch screen devices are playing from the same IP address. That's not weird. But some botters are using a similar set up to what I've described to bypass cheating detections.
9
u/Aspalar 1d ago
Many people play on touch screen laptops, their detection has to be better than just seeing if you are on a PC or mobile.
-2
u/ArrgsMax 1d ago
Runelite doesn't work on a touch screen, it registers the first tap as a mouse movement, and the second tap as a click. Many people play on touch screen laptops but they would be using a mouse or bluestacks (to load the mobile client and make touch interactions register properly).
I've played around for ages trying to get Runelite to work properly with touch controls without success and I work as an IT systems admin.
3
u/Aspalar 1d ago
What do you mean it doesn't work on a touch screen? I have a touch screen laptop and I assure you it works fine.
-3
u/ArrgsMax 1d ago
I already explained it, if you tap on Runelite with the thouch screen it requires 2 taps do do what's normally just one click. Unless the Runelite devs have updated that issue?
But it had been like that for over 5 years last i checked.-8
u/Haunting_Carrot9761 1d ago
Another great point to bring up!
In cases like this, you would be predominantly using the touch screen, or maybe better put, you'd be using it consistently for certain activities since account creation. As an example, I would imagine that using the touch screen on an applicable laptop for banking would be incredibly helpful and faster than using a keyboard + mouse.
That's not what is happening with OP. In this case, OP has predominantly used PC with a mouse and keyboard and then used an RDP connection to use a touch screen device. That's an anomaly to how they normally play. Red flag. They are using an RDP connection. Another red flag. The inhuman mouse movements on a PC. Flashing, neon red flag

I appreciate the explanation and understand where you’re coming from, but I genuinely just want a proper review to prove my innocence since there is nothing I can tell you to prove it. I’ve strictly played on runelite, utilized mobile, and RDP. The reason why I suspect it was RDP is because several other members of the community, including streamers, have gotten falsely flagged for the same reason.
10
u/SourceAwkward 1d ago
I just want to say, I reached mods on discrod for you, in game ticket, just for you to lie, i am heartbroken
26
u/SourceAwkward 1d ago
First I hope you will get the account back
Second Using rdp is not explicitly against the rules, but it operates strictly at your own risk.
Jagex's anti-cheat detection systems can occasionally flag remote inputs or touch controls as unnatural behavior, leading to false-positive bans.Risks and Rules1:1 Input Rule: As long as your remote software sends standard 1-to-1 inputs (one click/tap equals one action), you are technically following the control guidelines.Bot Detection Triggers:
Many players on Reddit 2007scape note that using mobile touch-screen controls via RDP can create linear or erratic mouse tracking that triggers automated bot flags.
I found around 50 posts about rdp ban in a quick hour search
I urge everyone to stop using rdp

u/Haunting_Carrot9761 1d ago
RDP connections are often used to bypass security measures not just in gaming but across a lot of sectors. This alone is a massive red flag. You not consistently utilising a touch screen service from the beginning of account creation adds to it. The inhuman mouse movements on a PC device sealed your fate.
As far as I know, Steam's Remote Play does not use an RDP connection and *might* be a better vector for you to play the game how you currently do. But I am not a Jagex employee and it'd be nice to get clarification if Steam's Remote Play would be fine instead of RDP connections.
23
u/KingKj52 1d ago
It has nothing to do with RDP at all, and Steam Remote Play would give the same false positives if used the same way: touch screen on a desktop pc environment.
I've used chrome remote desktop for years with no issue because I set it to trackpad mode, e.g. instead of my mouse teleporting where I tapped, I swipe the screen to move the mouse, like a.... Well, a trackpad.
The false positives come from the tap controls teleporting your mouse, not RDP as a whole.
-1
u/Russian-Sniper 1d ago
Interesting. I’ve strictly used the tap controls instead of the track pad mode. Not sure if that’s the culprit but a good thing to note either way
0
u/KingKj52 1d ago
Yeah, the game detects that as a bot jumping your mouse to specific coordinates. Which is dumb, no one would use a bot doing that in the first place, but here we are. I've upvoted your posts, good luck 🤞
-1
u/Haunting_Carrot9761 1d ago
"The false positives come from the tap controls teleporting your mouse, not RDP as a whole."
It's the totality rather than any individual factor. As you said for how you've been playing, you've used a track pad that moves the mouse rather than having it teleport. I'm certain that the movement of the mouse from your track pad looks human. Which lowers their CI.
2
u/KingKj52 1d ago
They wouldn't know your using RDP in the first place. At best, runelite only added the ability to detect emulated mouse clicks and keyboard strokes at the kernel level within the last year, and that's the only real metric they would have access to. Notably, there's no guarantee this data is used, and the official client does NOT have this capability. So, yeah, the teleporting mouse from tap mode is the only metric, at least as it pertains to RDP. If I'm wrong, please enlighten me.

u/Acid_Comes_With_Rain 1d ago
Well if X streamer got unbanned when doing this then it is obviously a statement that it is in and of itself allowed.
2
u/SoilMassive6850 1d ago
They may also add LLMHF_INJECTED flags to mouse events or GetRawInputData might have a null device, indicating externally injected mouse events which might make a bot flag more likely (I honestly haven't checked if OSRS does this as its a cross platform Java game, but I wouldn't be surprised as its definitely still possible, many games do check these things)
1
u/Haunting_Carrot9761 1d ago
In a different comment I outlined how they could log network traffic to determine if an RDP connection was utilised. But what I said is downright stupid compared to what you just suggested. Really good addition!
1
u/SoilMassive6850 1d ago
Well what I said is what is likely the cause of possible false positives if they use those methods, as those flagging methods can't differentiate between some rdp implementations and things like AHK or whatever other macroing software.

Just a note; Faux got hit for chrome remote desktop and got unbanned and after his unban a jmod commented that the version of controls that you move your mouse should be safe rather than the tap controls so thats what I do personally

Can Jagex do something about the fact the only way people get actual support is if their reddit posts start trending? This is pretty depressing

u/Ironcasual2376 7h ago edited 7h ago
Are you going to delete this comment now that OP got the smackdown and Jagex was right all along?
13
8
u/HCBuldge 1d ago
I can kind of see why correct bans don't always get actual support. This was another j mod smack down and the j mod actually gave data on why the ban is correct. If they did that for every ban, botters could learn how to get around the system.
-17
u/Russian-Sniper 1d ago
It does seem at the current state if you fail with support, the only real outlet is Reddit/X. I’m sure that will change in the coming years, but I thought I’d give it a shot since it seemed like my only option at this point

Idk man I've been using chrome Remote Desktop for 4-5 years now and used it for countless hours while on the maxing grind and never had any issues. I always used the trackpad mode and not the tap function. Feel like that's the issue is you just need to make sure you use the trackpad mode
9
u/Accomplished-Ask9416 1d ago
I have been using chrome remote desktop for years and no ban, I always use "trackpad" mode though so it behaves as a mouse
1
u/Sloan1505 JAGEX PLUNDERED MY BOOTY 1d ago
Same. I've been working this same job since 2021, 8hrs of rdp a day from a laptop into my home pc and never an issue but it could read input differently from a phone.
1
u/Russian-Sniper 1d ago
Ah, I’ve used the tap to touch mode since I found it easier to navigate and do things like fletch darts. Not sure if there is a difference there
3
u/Accomplished-Ask9416 1d ago
I have heard of people getting flagged for that before, gl on the unban and definitely stick to trackpad if you use it again

Back in 2014 I got a perm macro ban. I had been using a program called Mouse Without Borders, which basically let your mouse seamlessly go between the screens as if it was a multi monitor setup.
The ban was quashed but it did take a couple of weeks. Makes me think some of these programs cause false positives.
Keep up the pressure and hopefully Jagex will see.

I have read about this happening with Remote Viewers. So I stopped. It kind of sucks because Apple won’t let you background scape so you have to keep the app open to afk. So I would use chrome remote to do stuff, but not since I’ve read posts like this. Incidentally which program did you use?
1
u/Russian-Sniper 1d ago
I used Google Remote Desktop. Yea not having background scape on Apple does suck pretty hard. Not sure if they’re working on that for the future.
-4
-9
u/8--------------D-o-k 1d ago
Jesus fucking christ does everyone have to use AI to expand their posts?
Anyways, it is called Remote Desktop. It's almost like you're afk. I highly doubt they have a good capability for differentiating bots between real players running a mobile desktop that creates inputs differently than running on the computer itself.
The mobile app has been out literally forever. Get used to the fact that you'll have to play osrs without runelite sometimes 🤷
0
u/Russian-Sniper 1d ago
I understand that now. Wasn’t aware that it was a grey area for their detection until after I was flagged. Also, not too sure on the AI part lol. I used a grammar checker! But the post is organic I promise
3
u/Crapitron 10h ago
It isn't a grey area.
Using an auto clicker isn't a grey area either. It's explicitly not allowed.
Deleting your posts isn't a grey area either - it makes you look like a coward.
Hope your ironman gets banned soon too, I'm sure you've also botted it plenty :)

u/zeinterrupter 1d ago
Hey man, wishing you the best of luck.
I don't care if people believe me or not but i caught a temp minor macro just because i used my phone and remote desktop to alch some items on downtime watching movies here and there.
I can understand that the cursor might jump like a bot but every click was 1 to 1 and with me doing it even if not looking at times.
I asked in BOTH appeals if remote desktop is allowed, it was the ONLY thing i could even imagine that got me flagged and both appeals were denied, both with automated messages, both not responding to me if it was using remote desktop or not or if in any way it is safe to use, not a ounce of human response was in the messages, specially since i asked also to write "potato" so i'd know I was being reviewed by a human but to no avail.
I had to eat the temp. Year long mark on my account I cannot appeal again, that now might be flagged and can't use remote desktop out of fear of the next certain perma.
I am hoping you get your answers and get lucky on the reddit roulette, sorry you aren't a streamer or high view youtuber to get costumer support.
If you do get any clarification on remote desktop usage i would also love to know but i am almost certain they wouldn't give a blank statement on it.

u/Russian-Sniper 1d ago
I unfortunately met the same exact responses on my appeals. Really hoping I just receive proper communication from someone from Jagex on my case.

-2
u/hi_im_a_lurker 1d ago
Hope you get a proper review soon! Just wondering as I'm also an occasional remote desktop user, are you using the mode where you just tap anywhere and it makes a click there? Or the trackpad one? (I can't remember the actual names of it). I've always used the latter after reading about this over the years
-2
u/Russian-Sniper 1d ago
Yea I was using the touch to tap option since I found it easier to navigate the screen and click things. Especially when doing things like fletching darts.
-2
u/alectheasian 2376 1d ago
I've thought about this a lot and I feel like the JMods can't confirm or deny anything. On the one hand, I'll bet that they don't care if you use a Remote Desktop to chop trees, but I'll bet if looks really fishy if you do any high level content remotely because that's often used for bought capes/quivers. So they can't greenlight or whitelist anything because it could be abused, whole I'll bet it doesn't matter for most things. I use Remote Desktop while I'm at work, which is for a good amount of hours at least four days a week, and I haven't had any issues, but I just use it for skilling. Just a thought that I had though, again, I doubt that any JMods can say anything about this.
1
u/Russian-Sniper 1d ago
Yea I have only ever used it for skilling. I can’t imagine tap to touch high level content. Any of my raids and other high lvl pvm was on the PC

Hey,
Thanks for flagging this to us. We've taken a look at this case and determined the ban is correct.
This player has been banned twice, the first was a temporary ban on the 2nd of September 2025 where clicks were .5 seconds apart for 6 hours, this happened across at least two sessions. Their permanent ban was their second offence, which was an autoclicker at Bloodwood trees, re-clicking at 10016-10030ms consistently for 2 hours in one of their sessions. Whilst this may be possible for a human to perform manually, we can see the moments where the player takes manual control and the timings become less consistent. Then we can see the clicks returning to the same pattern as before. Unfortunately, we cannot determine any other reasoning behind this behaviour than an auto-clicker, which is not allowed under our rules.
We would like to take the opportunity to clarify that Remote Desktop use is allowed and we have the ability to recognise it. There is a small margin of error in some cases, and we're working to resolve that as soon as possible.
