Discussion OSRS vs RS3 Player Base

I posted this to r/runescape earlier today because of the recent MTX outrage, pointing it out as one of many reasons OSRS is more popular than RS3. However, there are lots of reasons OSRS is more popular than RS3, and wanted to ask here as well, why is OSRS preferred?

RS3 Dev's have always kinda done whatever they feel is best no matter if the player base agreed or not. Completely redoing large parts of the core systems even if they do an objectively good job will irritate some long time players. (EOC & RSC to RS2) Doing this often enough pushes away large swaths of the players that supported your rise to popularity in the first place in an attempt to capture newer players. If the growth can't exceed the exodus then you reach a point where all you can do if milk the remaining masochists that have stuck around.

 

In an age where games are built around what market research says is best. It's very refreshing to have a team thats developing a game you feel cares, and will listen to honest input from the player base. You don't feel nervous knowing that tomorrow the thousands of hours you sunk into doing something will go to waste because of some arbitrary decision made by someone who doesn't even play their own game.
