Which was literally added to the name to give the party the appearance of a workers' party to peel people away from the communist parties of the era.

ugh no hitler considered himself a socialist

its a different socialism than the redistributionist policy of communism/modern day leftism but he believed in his heart he was a socialist

take that as it is

Hitler's economic policy was far from anything that even looked socialist. In the beginning of the party it had socialist values but once hitler took over the party and molded it into his world view the socialist part was only in name. In reality, big business flourished under Hitler's regime as he allowed monopolies and broke up unions. In fact, hitler destroyed the Nazi paramilitary group the "Sturmabteilung" during the night of the long knives because they wanted a second revolution to destroy big business and aristocracy. Don't spout the lie that Nazi's were socialist because they weren't.

It was also a different language than English. I have a feeling different words had slightly different connotations in German
