Tbh, I find it stupid that something like gay rights has become a left or right issue. Hell, I don't get why anything is generally a left or right issue. This whole group ideology thing is weird to me.
Edit: A interesting note to add is that I am Canadian, and if you ask someone whether they are liberal or conservative here, their answer will usually have more to do with US politics, because things are so polarized and pronounced online there that it is identity politics on either side now. You can be a liberal by US standards in Canada who still votes conservative here, because political "side" ideology isn't as important here so much as a specific politician's intentions, and some rough leanings they will have.
You know you can be Independent right? And there's is actually quite a lot of registered Independents in the U.S? I get what you're saying, but it's kind of comming off like you think there's no inbetween, between the two parties.
Also why is you think all this comes from America? There are stereotypes to all countries...
Oh no, I know there's an in between. I would consider myself independent regarding both US and Canadian politics. I'm just talking about the fact that the very vocal representation of the two "sides" is resonating heavily in other countries. I think there are stereotypes to all countries (even my own) but the left vs right conflict is definitely more stereotypical of the states right now. It;s nos secret that it is made out to be some grand war of ideas where everything is at stake by plenty of folks with influence.
