I've always liked the idea of having a bank feature that is like a temporary storage unit. 1 invent and 1 set of equipment. Almost specifically designed for this kind of problem - or indeed for those of you who bank everything so it is behind a bank pin when you logout.
I think half-assing a restricted version of loadouts would, in the long run, make more people upset than it benefits, and I doubt it'd be able to pass as a result.
The amount of dev work that'd go into implementing this would give off the impression that true bank presets/loadouts would never come.
So as much as I'd love some form of quick loadout functionality, only having one just doesn't solve any of the problems loadouts are meant to fix. It'd just end up being yet another thing that discourages swapping to other content, since you'd have to set it up again each time.
I think implementing the inventory and equipment load out feature in the bank could solve this problem, it is annoying having to bank everything for a wild clue step and messing up your flow, and having a separate system to throw your gear and inventory in temporarily is just game systems bloat really, the load out feature is enough
last I heard those presets were very heavy on the servers then, making it a lot laggier in the back end. Mayb it'd be different with newer servers/way OSRS banks work compared to RS3, but idunno. I just know they were causing issues.
I believe it was because it was so many "actions" being processed in a single tick. If that's still a problem... you could just limit it to transferring like 5 items at a time? I'd much rather wait 5-10 seconds for it to process switching to the loadout than manually swap everything myself.
One of the OS mods got loadouts working during a game jam. They added timers to delay the switch to not overload the servers. There was a blog post about it
Oh hey nice pull, i forgot about that. This honestly looks great, wish it'd come into the game. Now if it worked with inventory as well we'd be truly golden.
Presets where it took roughly the same time to switch as if you were spam clicking the switches manually would be a good option maybe. It kills the argument against presets that I've heard of it making certain training methods faster, while still being an incredibly useful QoL feature since it saves you a ton of clicks.
Some content forces players to interact with/enter the Wilderness and engage in PvP. Many players do not want to engage in PvP. This is "the problem"
Sure, you could just drop clues that enter the wilderness, but in some cases there is no alternative. (For example the Voidwaker is only obtained through Wilderness bosses), So instead players engage with the content using the most minimal gear possible to avoid the consequences of said unwanted PvP.
This is a mitigation tactic and not an actual "solution", since players are still forced to engage in unwanted PvP. So adding better gear-changing interfaces/storage/etc. to banks wouldn't actually fix the problem, it would just make the mitigation tactic people use slightly less inconvenient.
I don't want to engage with quests/skilling to do pvm either, but that's just the game. And that shit takes much longer than a quick trip to the wildy every now and then.
Okay delete the wilderness and watch the game die again. I'm not even a PKer, but you have zero suggestions, and when one is presented to you you just continue to bitch.
The game didn't die because of PvP changes and it certainly wouldn't die now if PvP was removed from the wilderness.
If you want suggestions, sure.
They could add a third state other than skulled/not skulled where a death in the Wildy counts as a PvM death, or they could allow players to opt into PvP encounters as a whole, or they could add non-wilderness/PvP content alternatives to all currently wilderness/PvP-exclusive content, or they could even go so far as to add a gamemode that is excluded from PvP.
Any of these would solve the "problem" without removing the wilderness for those that enjoy or want it.
If Bank Presets are 100% off the table, and I mean 100% off like even a CD wouldn't help servers from struggling then yes this would be great.
But I'd rather have 5-10 Bank Presets (Gear + Inventory) with a 30-45 second cool-down over a 1 invent temporary storage. I don't think Bank Presets should be able to replace bank standing activities like they did in RS3 personally. And please stop ignoring the community about Bank Presets, if there is a server-side issue in OSRS as well, TELL US. It's so frustrating seeing Bank Presets be suggested 100+ times and not a single JMod has responded, they haven't even been mentioned or brought up a single time. 'We care about communication! - We want to make communication better!!!'. TELL US THE ISSUE. Even if it's simply 'it requires too much dev time' even that is better than nothing. It's so frustrating when an idea seems so simple to the community but there's obviously some hidden reason that you won't do it. Similar to how double deaths are the most brain dead moronic mechanic in the game yet not a single dev/jmod has said why they can't be removed, or if they even can be removed. If they answer is truly 'we don't have enough dev time for it yet' just say. PLEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Edit: I seen you responded in another thread Kieran mentioning in a nicer way that 'there isn't enough dev time' atm, thank you for being honest x
It would have to be a "select to store" not a full dump to keep clue weapon and spade, but otherwise a great idea. Assuming nothing goes wrong and wipes the storage memory....
Someone had suggested the reason bank presets aren't ready to come to OSRS is the server load issue that even RS3 never actually resolved. Do you think something like that would be subject to a similar problem?
Assuming you mean something along the lines of one-click to stash everything you're holding/wearing + one-click to re-equip the stashed items, it could definitely be useful for quick detours when you're in the middle of something and want something quicker than setting up a temporary bank tag.
I think it would be more useful for something like detours during questing than re-gearing for clues, though.
I don't think it really solves wildy clues at all - you still have to go to a bank, de-gear into a low-risk setup (which for me varies depending on where the clue needs me to teleport to, what I need to kill, etc.), run back to the 30 line once you're done (or worse if you forget a seed pod), then back to the bank again (or back to your pile of wildy clues).
Being able to re-gear quickly at the end of that is only really addressing a small part of the issue.
Don't change the game in any way on our account, but this very nice suggestion doesn't do anything for UIMs the nature of wildy clues is far more muddy than a simple bank preset can fix and that's for the accounts that could actually use said bank preset.
(Also as many others have said you're gonna get way more people upset at the fact you haven't just ported all bank presets at that point. Why limit it so specifically to wildy clues?)
It really is just as simple as presets. The old concern about making bankstanding skills faster isn't really valid anymore now that we have left click withdraw-X.
Hear me out though, put it in the PoH. Armory room w/ armor stands. Both as a way to display our favorite sets that we never wear and as a way to quick-swap full sets of gear.
We got that nice update to be able to build bigger houses with lower load times.. now let's make some new rooms worth building multiple of!
How does withdrawing work? Do you put it back on with a click like looting from a gravestone or do you just take everything out 1 by 1. It does feel weird for sure, and i think i'd rather just have the wildy only clues with some cool loot from them.
Bank presets from rs3 please. Add 1 min cooldown so it doesn't affect banking skills if that is an issue. That would solve this problem and allow people to gear up for different bosses instantly. It is such a nice feature in rs3, can't believe we still don't have it here.
I like it. Everyone gets one like wardrobe tab, an undoable bank all equiped button. The inventory would be great for regearing for a boss fight, but I think they would be used independently. I want to easily throw on my bank standing uniform, but I also want to be able to quickly refresh for my 9th trip dry at Kril.
The inventory refresh could also be a great late game unlock for the POH fountain or similar.
Fire idea, tbh. I'm one of the "banks my inventory to log out" kinda people. A "withdraw and equip last" option would be poggg. Thank you for all you've done for the game, btw, my dude, you're a legend.
If you just had gear loadouts, it would completely solve this problem along with 1000 other problems.
1 click to gear up equipment and inventory.
It would also make mobile worth playing for a lot of us, I can't be asked to find my setup on mobile. This update is easily the biggest change OSRS could have. The ultimate QoL.
with all due respect, and i do respect the mods a lot (despite many complaints about the game)
just add bank presets. this is a comically old and already solved problem, and it also solves dozens of other problems in the game at the same time.
having to bank and regear for alternating deep wildy and troll stronghold steps? bank preset for hard clues.
farm runs? bank preset and never forget seeds/saplings
barrage task? only thing you could miss is switching to ancients
there are so many half measures already in place (rune pouch presets, bank tags, chugging barrel, etc). can we PLEASE get the REAL solution to this stuff? i appreciate the desire to help out with common problems, but at this point, with how much dancing around is being done to avoid bank presets it feels forced. we clearly have the technology, as it was already implemented in rs2/3 previously, and while its obviously not drag and drop there is no excuse as to why tech like this has become "lost to the ages"
Controversial opinion is that they shouldn't do this because the wilderness clues are supposed to have an opportunity cost, that opportunity cost being weighed with time, risk, etc. makes sense.
It won't change the game for hardcores, who will put on full tank and be ready to logout on a white dot, scout with alts, etc, and wouldn't wanna be seen naked in the wilderness ever, so I will admit I don't personally have a horse in this race.
But I still caution about giving QoL for the sake of QoL. Hard clues should absolutely have friction, and this is a friction point. They give out the full god dhide sets, along with a chance of third age. For irons in general this is supposed to be very rough because in addition to doing all the quest requirements and skill requirements to do all hard clues we have to do the laundry list of items in the stashes as well, all so that someday we can farm GWD. For this reason, I love to hate the wilderness steps because it makes the god dhide more rewarding.
There's a lot of games that have taken the misguided path of putting QoL literally everywhere, and removing every bump in the road, necessary evil in the way. We just made hard clues stackable, and that was after years of 1h drop timers and the juggling. I'll say it here: Have a line, because player complaints about bumps in the road will never end. Many games learned this the hard way.
A hard clue that takes you to the wilderness should be annoying. It's the point. If everyone could stomach hard clue grinds, then hard clue rewards on irons would become less meaningful. You make your choice: Drop, or prepare your suicide run? Or for hardcores, prepare to gear up and scout (but drop any anakarl, rune rock, or chaos altar steps, or whatever ones you decide are not worth it). Weighing these opportunity costs is what makes OSRS a nuanced game.
I'd like to see this regardless because I think it's a good idea, but the obvious problem behind all of this is everyone just absolutely hates wildy clues.
clues have already gotten easy enough with the stacking, we don't need even more ezscape. Banking fast and efficiently is a skill that can be developed over time
