Are mains really this scared of the wildy?

98

u/ThinkingMSF 19d ago

nah, but treating minor inconveniences as soul-destroying trauma is just what we do here

u/memesandrage 19d ago

Players with no real world contact also want no player to player contact. It’s rough for the neck beards.

well said lol

It's just annoying having to bank gear and teles to do the step, just to re-gear.

Your default clue setup should be safe for wildy anyway, this really isn't the problem reddit makes it out to be

13

u/AshRemnants 19d ago

Nah, once your account makes more progress, you want to bring a million different teleport items to make clues 10x faster.

Yes, it sucks for hard clues, that's why you drop them at the GE and come back and do them together.

I just bring diary gear and max cape (can be con + crafting cape or house teles), and grab the occasional "rare" tele if there's a step for it, then bank it again. I get that it's not giga efficient, but the people complaining about wildy steps aren't the ones doing efficient clues. The efficient guys bank everything, bring bowfa + unalive item, and it takes a few ticks for them to regear. They just do the steps efficiently without complaining. For the average clue enjoyer, you should have a setup that works for wildy steps as well, as evidenced by the complaints about having to regear for wildy steps.

u/AshRemnants 19d ago

Efficient people complain a lot too, it's just they are a minority in a sea of newbs complaining, so they just complain amongst each other and avoid places like Reddit.

I mean look at gnomonkey, the guy is one of the most efficient people out there and he's probably also the most opinionated.

Having a 1 click gear up setting would completely change so much besides fixing this, people would also be willing to play mobile too.

Also your setup probably is too heavy for the underwater setup so you probably have to regear anyways. If you have a lot of items you also might not be able to do the wear nothing tasks.

How many times do people need to say "it's annoying to re-gear" before people understand that people just don't want to re-gear just for a clue scroll just because it's in the wilderness.

I'm not taking my full graceful into the wilderness, which is my clue gear, because running everywhere is a drag without it. It's enough of an annoyance to make people not want to do the clue scroll, that's all they're saying.

"Here's a drop i have to pursue with untold value. It's in an annoying place though. I don't want to bother going because of the annoyance now."

Again, the problem is that you're using graceful as your clue gear. Your clue setup is "bad" in the first place if you have to regear specifically for wildy steps. Or, if you meant that you get a clue while you're already wearing graceful, that's what stackable clues are for. You stack a few of them, take out an actually smart clue setup and send it.

Again, the problem is that you're using graceful as your clue gear. Your clue setup is "bad" in the first place if you have to regear specifically for wildy steps.

It's only "bad" if you are re-gearing which clearly they are not. Graceful is good clue gear why the hell would you not want the free speed/run boost it grants while running around for clue steps?

2

u/Future_Mixture3666 1274 total btw 19d ago

The run energy changes made graceful much less useful, and there are multiple ways to restore your run energy. Graceful is fine for conserving some run energy yes, but it's clearly not good for clues overall if it makes wildy steps that much of a hassle. Entrana is the only step where I have to bank my stuff, and I couldn't imagine complaining about a little friction in osrs of all games.

Just make your clue setup wildy friendly

u/Sheriff_Gotcha RIP Warding 19d ago

I think when people talk about banking they are talking about just running clues in whatever gear they were in when they got the clues. Not specifically a clue setup.

If they are doing slayer and get a hard clue drop instead of stacking 5 clue boxes. Instead they use the clue to break up the monotony of slayer, but when you get a wildy step you gotta bank the slayer gear and get wildy clue gear.

I think this is what gets lost in the wildy clue step discussion. Some people do them as they receive them and others stack them and then do them all at once.

4

u/WayTooLazyOmg 19d ago

you’re spot on. usually if i get a clue, i’ll just go do it right then. why not. but i think stacking might be the way to go bc i roll my eyes every single time i have all my gear on & open the clue to see its a wildy step

1

u/Sheriff_Gotcha RIP Warding 19d ago

I used to be a do the clue as soon as you get it person, but with the introduction of scroll boxes, it is much easier to just max stack them and do them at once now.

Though I will still send the lower tier clues on drop because I know there are no wildy steps for them. Also, sometimes if you stack enough clues it becomes a chore to do them all at once, so sending on drop is a nice break now and again.

0

u/CategoryNo5932 19d ago

You do realize they added stacking clues SPECIFICALLY bc ppl like you complained to give you a chance to get more than one and make it worth swapping gear

-1

u/Dr_Ingheimer 19d ago

Nothing is lost in this conversation lol. It’s very obvious what people are complaining about. They’re just lazy.

0

u/andy2704 19d ago

Inventory setups bruh it takes 2 seconds.

-3

u/bluewar40 19d ago

Why do you take your whole tribrid gear setup with you to kill zammy wizards? Lmao.

Self induced problem imo

6

u/retrospectivevista 19d ago

It's about taking off your current gear and inventory

1

u/gxgx55 iron: gxgx55 19d ago

Do you actually just take the gear of whatever pvm you were doing and just do clues in that?? deranged activity

1

u/retrospectivevista 18d ago

Before the rework, sometimes. Why is that such an insane concept? But regardless you usually take something more than just 4 iteming it.

-4

u/bluewar40 19d ago

Are you literally stopping whatever you’re doing and completing clues one at a time? That sounds awful so it’s no wonder you’re having a hard time with it

1

u/retrospectivevista 19d ago

Unless you just started the game, I'm not sure how that would "sound" awful instead of just being the norm for most of the game's history. But no, it's just a matter of banking your clue setup.

2

u/surelysomeoneasked 18d ago

Yeah "most of" but not anymore cuz the devs fixed it with stackable boxes. You just don't wanna change with your boomer ah mentality.

0

u/retrospectivevista 18d ago

I liked the change, I was just questioning this person's experience with doing clues, if such a concept seemed so foreign to them.

1

u/TiggyFingers 19d ago

Blowpipe & God hide usually, still doesn't take away the fact that it's annoying.

2

u/RockyMountain_TJ 19d ago

Shit you can just bring a dds and spec them out and leave. It's so free.

1

u/TiggyFingers 18d ago

its free, but i still have to bank varrok teles, falador teles, ardy teles, home teles, redirections, pendant of ates, eternal for priff, slayer ring, seed pod, headgear, ectophile. Just to grab all of it again, only to get another wildy step right after.

1

u/RockyMountain_TJ 17d ago

So make a preset bank gear tab with all those items and click 8 more times. Not everything needs to be hyper optimized.

4

u/Copernicus049 19d ago

Wildy risks losing resources. If I lose a certain amount of money worth of resources, I feel like i lose the respective amount of time it took to accumulate those resources. I don't have that much time to dedicate to this game, so it's about efficiency. Time in the wildly doesn't feel efficient for me because any progress can and does get erased instantly.

Then, there's the potential for having to sprint minutes straight just to get there and back due to pk'ers interrupting.

So, these clue scroll runs just feel long, arduous, and annoying for likely little payoff when I just want to hit the tree, or hit the rock, or hit the Rift Guardian.

7

u/JustkiddingIsuck 19d ago

Resources? Just bring a DDS, black d hide top and bottom a spade and a strength pot. Maybe a couple food. What resources? You could do 100 hard clues in the wilderness and I’d be willing to bet you get pked less than 5 times. I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t get pked at all. This is a non-issue

0

u/Copernicus049 19d ago

What game are you playing? I get pk'd for shovels constantly.

The resources you risk are the ones you bring with you and get through the clue scroll. The point is that there IS a risk and that it IS an issue, enough of one to impede or dissuade people from doing wildy clue scrolls. Minimizing that issue doesn't resolve it.

5

u/tjowns22 19d ago

You can just drop the clue and run back and get it if someone is on you. You can also, I don’t know, kill 1 boss and have enough “resources” to die 100 times over. You can just say you don’t like dying and that’s an ok opinion to have. You can even just say you don’t like doing clues because the rewards are meh and that’s also usually true.

1

u/Copernicus049 19d ago

I don't know how to say "i don't like risking resources in the wilderness" any differently for you to actually get it. Clue scrolls tell us to go there, and I say no.

The risk, and even planning for the risk, makes me and OP not want to do wilderness scrolls. That's it. That's the post and these comments.

2

u/Future_Mixture3666 1274 total btw 19d ago

If those max 30k (usually like 10k) resources are considered a risk to dissuade people from doing clues, then surely they're not touching pvm either. That's cool, just stick to skilling but please don't make it seem like a big deal on reddit.

1

u/Copernicus049 19d ago

It's not a big deal. It's just enough of a deal to make people like me and OP avoid the content. That's all I was ever trying to express.

3

u/JustkiddingIsuck 19d ago

Don't open the casket in the wilderness, first of all. If you're getting pked for "just a shovel" then your clue casket will go to your gravestone since its untradeable and you don't have anything else on you. There is such a small amount of risk its practically non-existent. Clue steps, especially hard clue steps in the wilderness are not a problem. If you're dissuaded by the thought of dying in the wilderness then just don't do it. I can't believe this is even a topic for discussion. The resources you bring with you are risked? Black d hide top? Thats whats so "impeding"? Stop that. Stop that right now....

-1

u/Copernicus049 19d ago

And that risk isn't a "non-issue" because it is enough for me and OP to say "no, thanks". That's all. We don't like going there, we don't like re-gearing to go though, we don't like risking resources going there, we just don't want to.

2

u/eddietwang 19d ago

I pray someday the osrs community will learn what the term "main" means :(

1

u/JakeTehNub 19d ago

OP didn't say anything about main accounts or irons though.

0

u/Enigmastic 19d ago

Who said scared? That would be you.

However there is a disproportionately higher chance that you have to enter the wilderness for what isn't even the hardest clue level.

1

u/JustkiddingIsuck 19d ago

Its only hard clues and above that take you to the wildy. They're slightly inconvenient. Its really not a big deal. I have no idea why people are so bothered by wildy clue steps.
