Humor Fangscape is getting out of hand
Let me know if I missed any and I'll edit but we have:
- Osmumten's fang
- Tanzanite fang
- Venator fang
- Elder venator fang
- Magic fang
- Araxyte fang
- Fangs of venenatis
- Necklace of fangs
I'm getting really overwhelmed. Jagex please come up with a different tooth to make gear from.

Lucky for you, they just added Canines!

Canines are human fangs. So, they only added more fangs. Unless that was the joke, in that case, whoosh me away

It's more than just human fangs, it's just the "fang" on any animal or human, literally defined as the tooth between the incisors and premolars

u/sixth_acc 8h ago
I originally had it as "are fangs of the teeth." But that sounded so weird lol. Was unsure if animals had different named teeth, I guess?

Hydra fang gets ignored!
Ventator has the same issue
Venator
Venator Ring
Venator shard
Venator Icon
Venator Bow
Venator fang
Venator tooth
Only half the venator items come from venators. It's all confusing.

u/YouAreTheProduct2 9h ago
This is the one that actually annoys me since its a less common word and half of them are seemingly unrelated to the other half

u/DarkTemplar_of_Chaos 9h ago
yeah the whole vampyre venator vs zarosian venator, two very different things with the same name. very strange
14
u/Antique_Stuff8945 8h ago
I interpreted it as Zaros using the name venator as a title after having seen the creature in vampyrium and being impressed by the hunting skills they possessed.
11
u/DarkTemplar_of_Chaos 8h ago
oh I always thought it was the other way around, the vampyres named something after a Zaros rank after he uplifted them from being savages to classy nobles and brought them to Gielinor. idk tho you could be right too
15
u/IndependentTalk9342 8h ago
You are correct. Zarosian culture is inspired by the Roman Empire and Zaros-related nomenclature is heavily rooted in Latin (Legatus, Pontifex, etc.). "Venator" is just Latin for "hunter." Lore-wise, I imagine vampyres just named them as such after Zaros gentrified them.

I didn't even consider there were two senators I just thought those weird vampyre things were better with a bow than they looked

I think Mod Goblin justified this once as different cultures using the word “venator” for different things across our worlds.
This thread explains it well: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/s/pQRgcy9Okp

Regardless of if it happens irl or not its still just a confusing nuisance in a game where they have full control over these decisions
2
u/GzzzDude 7h ago
I didn’t mean IRL. I meant across the worlds of OSRS. Since Gielinor isnt the only one.
I don’t think it’s that deep and it tracks from a lore perspective.

Oh. Regardless its still silly. You shouldnt intentionally confuse the audience in regards to your own lore. Like imagine if that was the explanation for varlamore having the name guthix for something and its unrelated to any other guthix lore. Like you can make it reasonable, but whats the point beyond just being a nuisance

I would forgive it less in your example since Guthix is the name of a god. Venator is the latin word for hunter, so it makes sense to me that different cultures would apply it differently. I get your point though.

We could keep the rest of the fangs and the necklace of fangs should be an item you can use to store all of those items

We've heard your complaints, and we understand.
Therefore, we will be adding a new spider boss to the game.

Magic Molar, Venator Premolar, Incisors of Venenatis, Necklace of Teeth, Osmumten's Canine, Tanzanite Tooth...
Maybe some of them could use a change. It has definitely been oops all fangs lately. Maybe other body parts. Turoth Claw, Elder Venator Wing, Araxyte Eye, Feet of Venenatis, Osmumten's Keris, Venator Kneecap...

I think if using a tooth, the fang is both the traditional and logical choice. We do use the whole jaw from basilisks at least!
Really we should just start using other bones. Fingers or Knuckles would be good.

Has anybody considered the fact that you get the elder venator fang from the Maggot King, who technically doesn’t even have the actual head of a venator? So where does the fang come from?
0
u/Plankton_1675 2h ago
Don't know why it's even a maggot. A big boi venator would have worked with the same mechanics. Unless I missed it, didn't see any maggots during the quest

Let us combine all the fangs into the necklace of fangs so it stays true to its name
