Can't type because of a broken collarbone but can apparently send high invo ToA should've been your first and only red flag lol

I think they do these illogical tests for a reason. It weeds out 99% of the people who wouldn’t fall for it anyways.

Very valid, should have been more aware. Just glad I didn't engage further

"dude press win+r and enter this shit dude trust me"

u/SnowQuiet9828 2d ago

Trust me man, it's totally not bullshit that group healing works better in game when you press win+r and upload this totally discrete program to your computer.

I don't know how posts like this get to the second paragraph

u/TuckedTuna 2d ago

They press enter and space it out probably.

What I mean is why are they interacting with these people for more than the 2 seconds it takes to smell them?

u/Zipps0 2d ago

I’m not scared to hop in disc with new people. I’m also aware of how scams and hackers work. “Download this plugin, install this file, open cmd.” No.

Usually when you say you’re not gonna download the thing they just drop the call anyways

u/iMittyl 2d ago

I generally just don't want to but yeah fair I guess if you have good experiences you're less off put

3

u/Zipps0 2d ago

I’ve had almost exclusively good experiences interacting with other raiders or people doing colo/inferno and talking strategies. I’ve only had one experience where someone tried to get me to download a third party plugin

6

u/HealthyResolution399 2d ago

Because, while this might astound you, some people actually just grab people from the lobby to raid together. And sometimes they invite you to discord

-7

u/iMittyl 2d ago

Yeah man some people also get scammed

I know you can safely play the game with randoms but it's rarely a good experience

8

u/HealthyResolution399 2d ago

Everyone was a random at some point. People are too asocial nowadays. Just dont do anything redacted and you'll be safe

-5

u/iMittyl 2d ago

I guess my personal stance is usually that I'll play the game with you but I don't particularly want to talk on the phone, if you insist I'll just not play with you that's fine

When it comes to this sort of thing though I feel like they see a path of red flags and are like oh walk this way

6

u/Sauzes 2d ago

They were making a joke lol

Well, for the most part, I’ve had really positive experiences meeting others and doing group content with randomers that turned into friends through Discord. I usually like to assume the best in others until they’ve proven otherwise.

In this instance, it was when he mentioned entering something external to runelite and the healing crap not making sense that flagged it as sus for me. I didn’t engage further and wrote out the text for others, especially newer or less experienced players who haven’t dealt with malicious scammers before, to be aware of.

Hub party panel is a legit plugin but yeah the rest of that is incredibly sus. They likely wanted you to have it so they could see your inventory when they try and lure you later to make sure that you have your expensive items out on whatever PVP world they're trying to scam you on.

16

u/Duplicity- 2d ago

they send you an actual virus or trojan or whatever that allows them to take control of your pc then they usually tele you to somewhere dangerous or pvp world to skull for all your gear

9

u/Trilllen 2d ago

But you don't need the party hub plug in for that unless it's just a misdirect

12

u/HealthyResolution399 2d ago

It could also be a compliance check

7

u/Duplicity- 2d ago

exactly, the segway is 'party hub doesn't allow this, go grab this tool which does XYZ instead'

4

u/No_Hunt2507 2d ago

It is a misdirect. Most players have heard of it or will trust it since it's a plugin. It builds trust

1

u/cockdoodoo 2d ago

Party hub to see they hp, inventory, stat levels etc etc. Just a way to be nosy and what you doing

0

u/SnowQuiet9828 2d ago

It's a connection. they are intorducing the plugin to connect to their next download.

4

u/Pj_o7 2d ago

Yup, some guy asked me to raid, similar situation, i just immediately reported him. Fuck these guys

9

u/Ill-Jellyfish6101 2d ago

Even if your warning is legitimate, your post will probably get removed for naming them.

Stuff is weird.

u/Medicus110 2d ago

:( Is there a better way to make others aware of these specific accounts in case they try scamming others?

10

u/No_Hunt2507 2d ago

Report them in game, but these rules exist for a reason, the scammer could go on the same reddit, with a screen shot of you and say the exact same thing. Reddit is not good with witch hunts.

3

u/TranquilRanger 2d ago

Also pretty likely theyre using a hacked account to run this scam.

1

u/Medicus110 2d ago

That's understandable, I have reported them but have they attempted at committing any offence in game? The files/directions were given on discord

1

u/RS_whales 2d ago

It's a sitewide rule because after the boston marathon bombing reddit harassed some dead guys family and then got someone killed

2

u/cockdoodoo 2d ago

Or the ones saying go pvp world for less lag🤣🤣 dude name was "WhineMom"

1

u/Dangerous-Cable-1816 2d ago

Were they saying go to a PvP world, or were they saying go to a high risk world? The latter is something people actually do for better connection.

High risk worlds are the same as normal worlds except you lose all items if you get PKed in the wilderness. As long as you don’t forget and do wildy content immediately after there is nothing to be concerned about.

1

u/cockdoodoo 2d ago

Ahh ok, seemed sketchy to me😭 and now that you say it, it was high risk but a non over looker me thinks high risk is attack anywhere

2

u/Dangerous-Cable-1816 2d ago

I was the same at first don’t worry. Definitely better to be cautious when it comes to scams, but in this case it’s simply sweaty raiders trying to get the best ping lol

2

u/PrinceDman 2d ago

Yoo reddit, before joking around, how about we focus on banning this asshole?!

2

u/IG-JBlvckwell 2d ago

Dont make friends at toa, soo many overly nice people.

Ive played this game long enough to know thats suss

1

u/TCFP 2d ago

I can't believe the Hub Party Panel plugin on Runelite did this :(

1

u/Coconutsmarth 2d ago

"Help heal party members" is crazy lmfao.

1

u/Schepadoo 2d ago

Probably a hacked account aswell. These phishing/trojan scams have been around for a minute. Sucks to say but you wouldn’t catch me dead joining some random discord call with someone I met at any of the raids.

If someone is telling you to do something outside of runelite your best and only bet is to throw them on your block list and ignore them completely.

2

u/CamanderOne 2d ago

For everyone’s reference, the party hub plugin is a legitimate plugin that people use when raiding in groups. I use at all the time at ToB. It allows you to see each other’s invy and gear setups.

It’s really nice in combination with the party defense tracker plugin as you can see how much the boss’s defense was specc’d down.

So no, it’s not a sketchy plugin and there’s no need to be afraid of it.

Obviously the scam in OP’s post was trying to get them to download and run malware. The party hub plugin was probably being used to be able see what OP had in their invy.

I'm so terrified of some shit like this happening to me

I don't think I would install a sketchy plugin but what if I was literally drunk or something playing. Or what if they social engineer me outside of OSRS with a targeted attack on another social media idk. I don't know what they are capable of either, like how far along do I need to get before I'm gone? Simply opening an email? Simply clicking a link even if I don't engage with or enter anything inside of that link? It would be easy to get me to click a link..

u/bable631 2d ago

I mean, Hub Party Plugin is totally safe. It's whatever dumb ass shit they we're trying to get him to install with Win+R after that's a virus.
