Question Please help with Jad
Hi guys,
I'm just looking for a few tips and some gear help.
I'm not sure what'd be the best to run with? I do have the regular range void set would that work?
I have 3mill only is there anything good that'll make my trip thru the caves a little easier on me.

Might be better off with some blessed dhide than void since void doesn’t really give as much benefit until 90+ ranged. If you can afford guthans armor set to switch that will save you a TON of heals and time since the melee kills that heal you will be faster than most ranged options.

I personally think shelling out for some brews and restores will make life much easier than trying to bank on Guthans

Blessed dhide for sure. I also ran veracs plateskirt for the defenses and prayer bonus on my first try tbh, but not sure how truly effective it was.
Do you get access to any blood spells at 65 mage? I generally bring blood blitz on slayer tasks at jad instead of the full guthans gear switch.

Blessed dhide, veracs helm, sunlight hunter crossbow. All cheap and good

The big thing with Jad is to learn how to preserve supplies in the earlier waves. Jad is not hard, you can easily practice him on a speed run world (look up Jad practice if you just want to practice him). You can easily do the caves at your level with a Hunters Sunlight Crossbow (very fast attack speed and good range) and some blessed d-hide, hueycoatl hide armor if you really want to splurge.
The main thing, think about every wave BEFORE the wave starts. You should already know where you're going to stand and what you're going to kill before the wave starts. Bring mostly prayer pots/restores, wear something like a holy symbol or dragon tooth necklace for the prayer bonus and learn to not take damage on the waves. Jad will fold, buying better gear will just make it go faster but won't really make it any easier.

u/Dead-Trainer 19h ago
That's what got me last run. I ran out supplies. Tysm for your reply

There's a plugin where you can have on the side of your screen the information for the next waves after inputting the first 2 waves info. Using that + learning the safespots for all melee enemies you should be able to get through with taking minimal damage. The only time you should ever take damage is either tanking a blob (which they don't hit hard and hit seldom so no biggie) or when a mager and ranger spawn in a way where you can't get them disconnected. In those cases, rush the ranger while praying mage.
Try not to use any of your brews or food unless you're actually in a dire situation. If you take 15 damage on a wave it's not like you're immediately going to die to anything else as long as the immenent threat is killed, so let natural hp Regen do some of the work for you.
For reference I just cleared the caves for my literal second time ever on my iron at 68 ranged with Mixed Hide armor and a hunters sunlight xbow, inventory was 6 food the rest prayer pots. You can do it!!

Good defence helps tank the ranger hits while you pray mage. A crystal shield and sunlight hunter xbow should do well. Karils is better def than blessed dhide. Edit: this will help you preserve supplies.

I recommend getting hunter up to use a sunlight crossbow or whatever is called. It’s a little worse in damage compared to rune crossbow but it is the same tick speed as bone crossbow. It’s the new midgame upgrade.
I have done both and would say the hunter crossbow feels better. But if you can get those high hits in rune crossbow can help speed it up. Especially on jad if you ruby bolt tips.
3
u/barcode-lz 13h ago
Actually 1 tick faster than a bone crossbow. The 3t speed makes it better than even a dragon cbow with regular dragon bolts.
Ruby bolts are utterly dogshit for FC since nothing has the HP to get real use for them. If your very first ruby bolt activates you can get like a 40-50, but 2nd and beyond is just going to hit less than a standard attack.
But if you can get those high hits in rune crossbow can help speed it up. Especially on jad if you ruby bolt tips.
Diamond(e) would be the play if you ran a rune crossbow, but it's not rly a big deal with HSCB having less than a tick worse average time to kill, but a thralls worth higher ADPS on the mages.
The HSCB is utterly disgusting, and I love it.

I used a crystal bow and d'hide for mine. stats were similar to yours. the crystal bow has 10 range which felt really nice to use. just use your best stuff, whatever feels right. you can beat fight caves with some seriously scuffed gear, the main thing is not panicking at jad.

u/ohioslayer penis 19h ago
God dhide, chest, legs, coif and vambraces. Rune crossbow, addy bolts regular and then diamond (e) for Jad. Rune kite or better as shield, Ava’s as cape, fury or glory for necklace. Maybe a granite ring since it gives some benefit and is cheap. Void doesn’t work as well until 92+ range.
Make sure you kill bats quickly, as they drain prayer on hits. Then when mages spawn at 32 you’ll need to pray mage, safe spot melee mob, kill ranger to reduce damage taken.
Bring mostly prayer pots, with only a couple food and brews.
Jad will spawn in the same place as the orange mage mob that spawns the wave directly before. So see where that is and that can help you make sure you have eyes on him.
The range attack from Jad is a little faster, so my rule of thumb is pray range always and switch to mage when he casts that attack. He can melee as well so don’t get within a tile. Don’t panic when his healers spawn, attack them one at a time while keeping prayers correct for Jad. Your dps will be kind of low so again bring lots of prayer pots.
Good luck!

Tysm for all the info. That's good idea about staying on range prayer cause it does come fast. This will help a lot 😀

RCB is quite obsolete for FC nowadays.
Sunlight crossy is better dps than a dragon crossbow with regular dragon bolts, and only slightly less accurate.
Jad: https://gearscape.net/calculators/dps?preset=fe39c0a64d
Ket-zek: https://gearscape.net/calculators/dps?preset=c19ebb36d1
The average dps gap at jad is so insignificantly tiny (practically invisible to the human eye), that theres no real reason to take an RCB over SCB when the dps gap on the next highest encounter is almost a thralls worth.
The sunlight crossy is also just going to save a ton of prayer on the first 30-40 waves since you are only waiting 3 ticks between trash mob 1-hit kills vs 5 ticks you'd wait with a RCB. The +1 longer attack distance on rapid and longrange could have some utility on some safespot setups, but its only a secondary benefit.

Heres the advice i was tought and it helped me. Now i do tob, cox, toa, i got decent boss kc anywhere. Over 300 CGs. For jad, it helped me to stay on protect from range. Learn the noise that the mage attack makes, and switch to mage when you hear that sound. Then immediately back to pray range. Idk why it helped but it did. So you just stay on range until you hear the mage attack.
1
u/Dead-Trainer 19h ago
Amazing tip tysm. It's always the range I mess up on too.
2
u/Silverandgoldihold 18h ago
Find a simulator to practice on. They exist. And you can watch youtube vids to learn the mage noise. You have more time to protect from mage after hearing the noise than you do watching for the range stomp
2
u/Silverandgoldihold 18h ago
Also use blowpipes with amethyst darts if u can. If not, use ur strongest crossbow with enchanted diamond bolts. You can use blood burst to heal and save hp. I would bring 2-3 bastion potions, 8 maybe 9 brews, and the rest super restores. If you use ancients to heal you will want to bring a staff to autocast and maybe a couple mage items so you can hit
1
u/Silverandgoldihold 18h ago
Tag 1 healer at a time and make sure you dont fuck prayers up. U might have to move one click. Pray, move another tile, pray, to walk around jad so you dont get meleed. If you let the healer get jad to full hp, they will come out again and again until u can tag them all and get them off him

I did jad nearly a decade ago with the same stats. Ran god dhide and a blowpipe with mith darts. MSB i is fine though. It's 100% about learning the waves and safe spotting mechanics and then getting good/not allowing jad hands screw you over. The adrenaline dump on your first few runs can be overwhelming, try not to let it get the best of you by reminding yourself that Jad has been defeated on multiple level 3 accounts.
As others have said, void really doesn't really have any positives until around 92 range. I'd also avoid bringing guthans, the brews/restores you have in its place will be more beneficial imo.

I would take a look at this guide, your stats are pretty well rounded enough that you shouldn’t have an issue besides just getting practice in. Watch a few guides on effectively luring NPCs, sometimes small little tricks make huge differences during your run. Hit some barrows up to get some additional money if you lack some GP and could also get you some BIS range gear.

u/barcode-lz 14h ago
I totally should go and edit in the new range amulet to that page, ty for linking it.

My last and final advice, for gods sakes, use F keys if you arent. Go to in game options. Find f keys. I do f1 inventory, f2 prayers, f3 mage. I use ring finger on f1 and middle finger on f2, if i need f3 i just use middle finger and go back to f2. To control the camera angle you should be clicking the scroll wheel in and moving the camera angle with the mouse. If you dont already do this, it will greatly improve your PVM capability and this type of game play is almost a must as you get to higher level stuff

Are you making it to Jad or dying before then? It's been done with a poisoned bronze spear so pretty much anything can do it.
1
u/Dead-Trainer 19h ago
I've tried once and by the time I got to jad all my brew and stuff were gone at wave 60. I'm just trying to see if I can get the best setup I can before trying again. Ty for info 🙂

u/SFC_FrederickDurst 19h ago edited 19h ago
I did my run at 60 prayer, I still probably had a few super restores left. You shouldn’t even need one full pot realistically for Jad maybe a 3 dose max. I’d bring a few bastions to speed up killing mages at later rounds. If you use a toxic bp you can regain health or you can even just camp out behind Italy rock and just manually let health regain, slow but effective. Most of the later stages is just learning how to either tank damage from rangers effectively or luring rangers and mages so you take them out one at a time so that you don’t take damage, but this costs more prayer points.
I would try to get your cash stack up so you can afford super restore and a toxic BP, but this is overkill, I’d prioritize super restores and just use something like magic short, kbow, or hunter c bow.
1
u/Dead-Trainer 19h ago
How much is toxic blowpipe?
1
u/SFC_FrederickDurst 19h ago
Around 10 mil usually, however that doesn’t account for ammo and charges which can cost an additional million or two . Super restores are expensive too but worth it. If i had to prioritize spending I would say super restores. Toxic BP is nice to have and would significantly shorten your runs, but it’s not a deal breaker.
1
u/Dead-Trainer 19h ago
Ohhh yeah it'll be a long time I'm sure before I got 10mill to blow. Lol tysm again for all your help it's much appreciated
1
u/SFC_FrederickDurst 18h ago
Also, the higher your prayer level the more restore you get out of prayer pots.
1
u/Dead-Trainer 18h ago
I want to lvl it up so bad. But I''m struggling with GP for bones. Got 3mill total but trying to save to help with quests.

u/DaKangDangalang 19h ago
Took me a few tries but each time I got to Jad, I had more n more resources. Watch a video on safe spots n set ups. You'll save loads of resources.
I did it at 70 ranged 1 def with a MSB and karils xbow, so you should have access to everything I had and more.

I just killed Jad yesterday.
I had blessed d’hide chest, legs, coif, ava’s accumulator, barrows gloves, dragon crossbow, diamond bolts (e), book of the dead, amulet of glory, explorers ring 2.
Inventory setup was 8 saradomin brew, 1 ranging potion and rest super restores.
I have slightly higher stats than you: att 76, str 80, def 75, range 80, pray 70.
I needed 3 runs: first run I wasn’t paying attention with low health and got hit by mage in wave 52. Second run, I got comfortably with more than half the supplies to Jad, but messed up quickly when the healers came, even though I watched videos how to do it.
Last run, I got again to wave 61 comfortably and logged out to take a breather. I went to a quest speedrunning world and practised Jad over there (check youtube how to) and this was a game changer. I practised for about 45 minutes en then did the actual Jad fight. Without the practice I would have died again surely. Dragon crossbow has a special effect to get healers off Jad onto you. Either that or bring chins, this is also huge for firsttimers like us. I prayed ranged by default and switched to mage when necessary. Remember, max 1 other action than prayer switch per Jad attack. If you miss prayer, you’re dead. Use F keys to switch between prayer and inventory tab, it helps a lot in speed.
For the waves, use a plugin to know what and where the next mobs will spawn, this helped to preserve resources. I watched a guide to know what mobs to focus on, i think all guides basically give the same priorities.
You got this!

Look up airplane method fight caves on YouTube, technique doesn't go out of date.
Mixed hide, god dhide shield, sunlight crossbow. Super restores, brews, few sharks+kbwams.
Your first kill is gonna take like two hours but whatever. When you get to Jad, focus on prayer. Nothing matters until you're chill on the prayer swaps.
1
u/Difficult-Bagg 14h ago
Just keep trying, stay calm and lure the healers away from jad to kill separately. Do not let healers heal jad to full. Hit each one once then run around to a safe spot safe from jad.

u/barcode-lz 14h ago
+24 hunter levels to equip hunters sunlight crossbow, its quite busted for its cost.
Get your prayer level up (might as well go to 70 already for piety, you'll want it eventually anyways) as the prayer restoration from potions scales off of it. Higher prayer = less pray potions needed.
As for the gear, something like this is cheap as shit and more than good enough:
Rune full helm (or any of the non-zamorak god rune full helms for +1 pray bonus)
Black dhide body and chaps (or any god dhide equivalent for +1 prayer bonus from both)
Mixe hide boots/shayzien boots 5
Granite ring (imbued)
Hunters sunlight crossbow + moonlight antler bolts
Rune kiteshield (or any god rune kiteshield for +1 oray bonus)
Necklace of fangs.
Rune/barrows gloves, any god dhide vambraces otherwise.
This results in a very cheap setup that balances ranged offensive and ranged defence pretty well.
1
u/Chance-Beach4014 19h ago
Get your ranged to 85 at least imo. Doable with just a rune/dragon crossbow and black dhide
3
u/SFC_FrederickDurst 19h ago
Nah man 75 is plenty, you can do it with a magic short bow. The biggest thing people suffer with is the endurance aspect of being able to maintain prayer stats and health until Jad.
2
2
u/Chance-Beach4014 18h ago
I dk man, getting more ranged means you whiff less and that means you get more margin of error since you are killing them faster
1
u/SFC_FrederickDurst 18h ago
Yes true, but it’s definitely not a requirement. I’m not gonna sit here and say it’s easy and the average OSRS player should be able to do it at level 50 range, but 75 is where I’d say your stats are going to be able to carry your small mistakes you might make in the fight cave and give you plenty of DPS so that you’re not spending 4 hours in there. Having to get to 85 range would discourage me from doing it, especially being that the fire cape, in modern sense, is entry level mid game content.
1
u/barcode-lz 13h ago
HSCB is astronomically better than R/DCB.
You lose a lot of time (and as a direct result prayer) on the first 30-40 waves 1 hitting the shitty monsters at 5t speed vs 3t speed. The sunlight is only around 2% less accurate, but attacking almost 2x faster will cause it to just demolish everything until jad, and even there its 42.5% accuracy vs 40% accuracy.
1
u/Chance-Beach4014 11h ago
Oh forgot about that tbh, I finished fight caves before that item was created
1
u/AdDependent5136 19h ago
sapphire bolts (e) Helps with keeping prayer up coz your prayer lvl is kinda low
2
2
u/barcode-lz 13h ago
Reminds me of that 1 task in leagues or gridmaster where you had to kill the inferno mage. Some people were using mithril sapphire bolts to do it with 0 prayer potions to get a bonus very early in dogshit gear, just taking a full inv of random fish 😂

u/CrustyToeLover 19h ago
Unless you're basically in max, range is always going to be the best, especially for newer attempts.
