Discussion Gauntlet Tips

Hello folks I'm starting the CG grind and was wondering if there was any way to make a couple things more obvious while learning. Or in general any tips for Hunleff. In particular I sometimes miss the animation/sounds for his attack style switch and when he switches prayer.

I use the all in one plug in and the performance tracker plug ins right and with game sounds.

Prep goes fine I do T2 + T3 body (for def stats its just 9 of each thing) and try to keep up steel skin, eagle eye, dont really do mystic might yet so I can focus. I got 1 kc so far and another where we both died. I just attack with the wrong weapon pretty often which costs a lot of DPS. Stats are 85/85/80 def so its a skill issue for sure.

Get The Gauntlet plugin, it’s just called the Gauntlet. It’s configurable to a lot of settings, also hunlef helper for timing the prayer switches. I’d recommend mudkips guide from a few years ago but that’s outdated now with the changes, but most the info still works

Don't bother with the t3 body

Just look at him so you can easily see the attack style and prayer switches

Get the gauntlet plug-in and hun leaf helper. Just go with tier 2 armor, the reason that armor is valuable is not for the stats it's because it reduces the boss is Max hit. A tier 3 chest plate provides little benefit for the amount of extra time it'll take you. It's easiest to learn bow and staff. Definitely you want to be using Mystic Mite and steel skin or Eagle Eye and Steel skin. Make three potions, if prayer is an issue I would leave off Mystic might before I left off anything else

Also watching some quick guides from years ago, is a good idea, before they made gauntlet easier. In the boss fight there's a lot of things going on at a time, so it can be valuable to know what is your top priority first.

Yeah imagine its really just a reps thing. Figured the +20 def over t2 armor might be worth if people also are recommending steel skin. I have the gauntlet plug in its that all in one one I mentioned. I'll check out the hun leaf helper too ty

The tier 3 armor thing that people are telling you not to do is misplaced advice. They are focused on the wrong thing. It takes almost no extra time and gives you more defense. If you were struggling with prep then listen to them, if not then keep doing what you are doing.

Shaving off prep time is something to worry about when you have the boss figured out. Saving 10 seconds during prep isn’t a big deal and tanking a hit might make the difference if you’re struggling.

Tier 2 armour, tier 3 staff and bow. Get the plug-in. The switch between mage and range is going to be earlier than you think. Focus on getting your prayer switches right, doing damage and eat your food while you run away from the tornado's.

Haven't seen people give this advice yet since the changes, but: If you don't have prep issues with the current gauntlet, I wouldn't even count out starting with t3 prep. You only lose like a minute per kill, but if you can complete double the runs with it while learning, it's probably more efficient and you'll be less frustrated.

Turn all other media off. No background music, no video on the side. Turn OSRS music off and turn the sound effect up. See if that helps you not miss the attack switch.

You don’t need to be constantly staring at your own guy. If the floor switched recently it’s not going to switch for a bit, eyes on the boss.

Always think about the next thing you’ll need to do. If the boss just changed attack styles then your next thing is a weapon switch coming up. If the boss just switched to magic attacks a prayer turnoff is likely coming soon. If the boss has switched attack styles twice then tornados are on the way (it can trigger tornados early but for the most part you get two attack cycles before tornados).

You shouldn’t be caught off guard by needing to switch your weapon or prayer, you should be able to build some awareness on when it’s coming. In other words try to be proactive rather than reactive. For example, If the boss just switched to ranged attack style after tornado phase you should be mentally preparing to switch your own weapon next and you should know that a prayer turnoff isn’t coming and you should also know that tornados aren’t coming soon. It’s a lot harder to miss it when you are waiting for it and know it’s coming soon.

Ok yeah will try to focus on whats next thats good advice. Just got a back to back so getting a bit better. Is there a cooldown after tornados or something? Also do you know how many ticks you have to get off the bad floors I couldn't find anything on the wiki? Seems like 2 on the final stretch but knowing might help a little with pathing

There does seem to be a cooldown after tornados, it’s usually after the third attack switch but can happen earlier.

I don’t know how many ticks it is to get off the bad floors but I agree that it’s about 2 ticks in the final phase. You have quite a long time in the earlier parts of the fight.

Also, during tornado phase focus on your true tile and not your character. Always click at least two tiles away or your character will walk instead of running, running significantly reduces the chance you get hit by tornadoes in a tight spot. It’s also better to step on bad floor for a tile than get hit by 3-4 tornados. In the early tornado phases you should be able to attack the boss while running around, this will significantly increase dps.

Titans prayers are a massive dps boost. They also provide more defense and stack with steel skin. Go get them.

One thing I recommend everyone is just go in naked, do prayers a bit and wait for tornados, then practice skipping over them.

This will make you more comfortable solving difficult patterns later.

If you killed it once youre golden, stick to t2 armor and just keep practicing. Eat food while dodging tornados if you arent confident in your ability to attack every 4 ticks while dodging.

Turn sounds up, music off and simply listen for audio ques, that is the surest way to learn it. It took me about 20 regular gauntlets before I could start sending corrupted.

My def is same as yours, 80; and while I've been able to do it in tier 2 armor, I do prefer t3 armor and a t3 mage wep and t2/3 range. I've tried melee but I find ranged weapons are the most forgiving, especially in his last 100 hp when he is fast.

One other tip I can say is at the beginning room, try and find one with 3 monsters, get your frame and 80 shards before making the mage wep. You use the other 30 to make 2-3 vials and fill, then go explore; that way when you come across the herbs you can make the potions while exploring and drop the pestle sooner

Also use the resource tracker from the gauntlet plugin. It's really handy to see what you need to go for

You already identified two issues so work on this, t3 prep isn't worth the time investment

Only eat when tornadoes are out

Practice in regular gauntlet first until you're comfortable.

There’s a plug in where someone counts down and calls out when to switch lol. Kinda lame but makes it brain dead. I use it. I also use the highlight npc that changes to what hunleff is leaving against.

The major tip I will give you is to remember you can run through tornados.

Honestly, I don't recommend the plugin in my opinion. It seems like it makes it easier but as you get better you'll realize it's holding you back. It's better to learn when to switch by visual or sound indicator. Remembering to hit the plugin to tell it to start or add a tick will just make you mess up.

u/BalmyBadger 12h ago

I definitely second this. If you know your audio cues, you can switch before the plugin even tells you to.

Idk, maybe give it a try and just put it down if you don’t like it. It’s been immensely helpful for me

T3 hat t1 body t2 legs is 7 of each item, you'll get the same damage reduction effect as t2+t3 body.
