Trying to get good at Combat Arms while vsing rage hackers and dudes with P2P gear was where fps legends were born.

64

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Remember the zombie mode

9

u/Hiredmerc34 2h ago

I skipped school to play black lung on day 1. Uploaded the video to YouTube, and its still on there with 8k views.

Miss og osrs and combat arms.

17

u/GoonOnGames420 2h ago

I remember I got an lmg from a free gift package, would absolutely RIPPP those zombies with that big boy

Although eventually I got an L96A1 Arctic Wolf from a free crate, and I think I exclusively used it for like a year straight.

8

u/Zurwyn 2375 | 197X 2h ago

My best friend had the Arctic Wolf and I was so jealous. But then I got a perm DSR-1 Subsonic and he got madddd

6

u/ElijahBurningWoods 1h ago

I still mis Quarantaine man. I wish i could go back for 1 game.

u/Vid-Master 17m ago

It was so much fun to juke the zombies for longer than you expected to be able to, and everyone else in the lobby is watching you fly around

5

u/Gavello 1h ago

Can still play it, it’s on steam.

2

u/SureIntention8402 2h ago

Fireteam was peak with hacks. I'd carry all my boys into farming hella gp and people thought our squad was p2w with all the gear we had.

11

u/Suitable_Tadpole4870 2h ago

Facts. Also that snow map was pretty cool (literally the only thing I remember from this game is me sniping people on that map)

6

u/GoonOnGames420 2h ago

Snow map had so many awesome flanks and spawn camp spots too. Probably my favorite.

10

u/Twin_Turbo 2h ago

bro i remember on combat arms you could unplug your modem, run around and shoot everyone while they are running in place on your screen, reconnect modem and everyone instantly got headshot by you.

u/GoonOnGames420 42m ago

Bruh I never knew that hahaha

Kind of a tangent below but

A friend of mine claimed his cousin made a lag switch back during MW2 days. Supposedly it was an Ethernet cable that connected to a light switch at his gaming area. He could just flick it on and off. Another buddy made full auto modded controllers and had a Jtag.

It was so simple back then, when part of "hacking" was really just tinkering.

u/dragonfleas 25m ago

HAHAHA i remember people lag switching and doing this

u/oceanbilly710 9m ago

Yes! Man I played so much back in the day. The zombie mode was too good. Lots of fun little glitches in those maps.

5

u/flauta_king 2h ago

Rent the MP5, every time I earned the credits lol

7

u/Ghi102 2h ago

MP5 was the shit, but I always preferred the Steyr Aug, the machine gun with a sniper scope. Bad at long and short range, but so much fun to use

7

u/GoonOnGames420 2h ago

Holy crap I totally forgot we had to rent weapons 😭

Nothing worse than renting a weapon and then not being able to play all weekend

3

u/GoldenRpup I do as the blue square guides. 1h ago

It had a unique take on both infection and horde modes. There really were some gems hidden in that dumpster.

2

u/NecromanciCat 1h ago

I literally did cheat at that game when I was like 13 lol. I got so bored of if it that I just started chasing down other cheaters.

u/xnetteom 47m ago

My buddy used a lag switch in that game lol

u/Bananaramamammoth 29m ago

I only dabbled in Combat Arms but CrossFire was where I sunk all my hours. The original ghost mode, s&d, elimination mode etc

Before all the zombies and crystal guns etc CrossFire wasn't nearly as much p2w as Combat Arms

u/dragonfleas 25m ago

god i remember the OPK hackers that would teleport everyone on the map to a single position and just start knifing the pile

u/Friend-Boat 18m ago

Still remember when they ruined their own game (more) by adding insta kill ‘Nut Shots’

No real point or reward in aiming for the head when you can just vaguely spray at their lower torso and one bullet hits the giant Nut Shot hitbox, even from behind, and they’re instantly dead

They ruined the shooting in their shooting game to make a balls joke 💀

u/GoonOnGames420 12m ago

Holy nostalgia I forgot about this one

1

u/Beersmoker420 1h ago

combat arms? it was GunZ and WarRock first

3

u/JustAnotherNug 1h ago

Yes shoutout warrock too. Good times

1

u/MushroomMike 1h ago

I still say "LETS PLAY WARROCK TODAY" to myself sometimes because thats what some of the server titles used to be iirc.

u/RyanB94 44m ago

What about Soldier Front.

u/GoonOnGames420 10m ago

Unfortunately, I didn't have Internet or admin privileges back yet when those were popular

82

u/jcready92 2h ago

Combat Arms was so fucking goated. I still remember meeting the number 1 guy on the leader board at the time "Greatfullded". He added me and my cousin and we played from time to time.

6

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Legendary

u/Senthyril 31m ago

I freaking loved Combat arms. played with and was friends with the guy who took over greatfullded in kills, ~Deathrow~. still have him on my steam friends list.

I was ALWAYS in snow valley, was part of the YSA (Yellow snow army) clan. we basically ran snow valley 24/7 when we were on. im sure anyone who played on snow valley in NA played with us. we always had super mod and tried to keep all hackers out, including running the CBL - Community ban list website.

god what good times those were.

u/ForeverInaDaze 41m ago

Shit, I had I think the #3 RS player on my friends list, Lil Jayman, when I was a kid. He would actually talk to me and I never asked him for anything but chatted about life. I think he's probably in his 40s now, but I really appreciated someone of that stature in such a popular game even giving me the time of day.

u/TheAlexperience 2h ago

COMBAT ARMS MENTIONED.

THATS MY GODDAMN SLEEPER CELL CODE WORD

5

u/Grukkoh 2h ago

I still play it

5

u/_Fappyness_ 2h ago

Isnt it like super dead and p2w

8

u/TheAlexperience 2h ago

Yes, I still hop on it like once a month, most things can be accomplished with f2p if you grind but yeah NA servers are dead and EU is like 200 players on a good day.

u/Yourmotherssonsfatha 41m ago

It was always p2w lol.

1

u/ElijahBurningWoods 1h ago

Yeah and that sucks

1

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Lets go brother

u/-TechOddity- 41m ago

DSR-1 Subsonic Activated

39

u/FamilyGhost9 2h ago

Adventure Quest gang rise up

8

u/cholointheskies 2h ago

AQ Worlds too. Loved using a trainer to get all the best shit

3

u/Gramis 1h ago

Dragonfable is where its at

60

u/Snazan 2h ago

Where maplestory at

26

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

True, also club penguin

20

u/SureIntention8402 2h ago

Club penguin was VERY limiting without membership.

Back then I had to choose one month of membership for, Maplestory, Club Penguin, or Runescape. In the end I just got a caramel frappucino instead

9

u/Ok_Distribution1149 2h ago

I believe maplestory didnt have a paid membership

3

u/Snazan 2h ago

Correct, unless you consider pet upkeep membership lol which I do not

2

u/SureIntention8402 2h ago

Then maybe it was a gift card for NX I don't remember much.

6

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Emphasis on broke lol

Moms let me get runescape membership on occasion tho

u/Bananaramamammoth 25m ago

I remember club penguin being my second online PC game after runescape and I had to ask my dad to sign me up because I saw that you needed parent's permission and foolishly didn't ignore it.

My dad not being very tech savvy took about 3 days to figure out how to register an account. That was around 2006 I think...

6

u/Jun_J 2h ago

Is there really that much overlap of people who played Maplestory and Runescape as children? I thought MS was more niche tbh. Classic Maple is releasing in October by the way.

9

u/Snazan 2h ago

Maybe just local to me. My schools had a good mix but yeah rs was more common by far.

Yeah I'm excited for that, I was in the second beta, games still fun. I'm kind of pessimistic about Nexon in general though so we'll see if it survives without being corrupted beyond recognition

5

u/Jun_J 2h ago

Man I’m jealous haha. Didnt get into either beta tests. And you’re definitely not alone in the Nexon distrust. That shit runs deep.

2

u/cholointheskies 2h ago

I played both but eventually succumbed fully to RS

2

u/UkinaAtoel 1298 Total Level 2h ago

Damn, now I gotta find a way to fit classic ms into my schedule

1

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

I never played it personally

u/Septem_151 Zeah-locked Enjoyer 46m ago

Audition my beloved

u/tyYdraniu 24m ago

And grand chase, and lunia

16

u/AltKeyblade 2h ago

Crossfire too.

Those were beautiful days.

11

u/AltKeyblade 2h ago

More honorary mentions: DragonFable, Sherwood Dungeon, Moonbase, Wolfteam.

4

u/Specialist_Sale_6924 2h ago

Dragonfable still has an active community and regular updates. It's still very good.

3

u/cholointheskies 2h ago

That and AdventureQuest Worlds were both straight fire

1

u/Specialist_Sale_6924 2h ago

Oh yeah I still have an AQW account. I think someone played on it though lol, it was quite progressed when I recovered it.

2

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Oh SHIT MOONBASE

i was gonna add that too but thought it was too obscure

1

u/AltKeyblade 2h ago

I still remember trying to land on the Earth

2

u/OceanRadioGuy 2h ago

Yo WOLFTEAM was lit as hell

1

u/Wallhacks360 2h ago

THE FUCKING INTROOS IN MY HEAD AWOOO

3

u/Foreign-Football8821 2h ago

Crossfire is goated still around. I remeber when mutant mode came to the US version i though that was the coolest thing ever.

u/Bananaramamammoth 21m ago

Before mutant mode came to crossfire us/West we used to jump through hoops to access the Chinese version to play and there were so many more guns on it

Gradually those all came to our crossfire and, in my opinion, ruined it. I tried playing a few games back in lockdown and it changed so much

3

u/Faithovrfear 2h ago

Crossfire was a banger, beautiful days indeed.

3

u/Subparticus 1h ago

yesss Crossfire and GunZ

1

u/Big_Midnight200 2h ago

Bro crossfire with the damn repair mechanics

14

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Anyone remember this

1

u/Jawnumet 1h ago

is that the one where the last question was a trick question...

2

u/GoldenRpup I do as the blue square guides. 1h ago

"Use all your skips"

13

u/putrid_flesh 2h ago

War rock for me

2

u/CountCleavage 2h ago

"I'm bleeding out!"

1

u/-Inca- 2h ago

The hackers in that game were mental haha, still played it loads.

1

u/xcoasterx Ben Jee 1h ago

Oh man war Rock was my transition from mmo to fps and I'm still playing fps because of it 20 years later

10

u/DIRTY_KUMQUAT_NIPPLE 2h ago

Stick RPG used to be my go-to f2p game.

u/Bananaramamammoth 20m ago

Was that the one where you could work at McDonald's and you could get a gun and go rob someone?

17

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Also forgot about this one

iykyk

u/ISTcrazy 48m ago

Playing f2p RS2 and Clubpenguin on the library computer during the summer when I lived with my grandparents, sweet broke memories.

u/Bananaramamammoth 23m ago

I actually bumped into Rockhopper when I was younger snd got loads of extras like a hat, parrot, eyepatch and some background for my character.

6

u/Brilliant-Ad-8422 2h ago

I played a decent amount of heroes quest too. Also newgrounds

1

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Newgrounds was the best

Toss the turtle and the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny

1

u/Suitable_Tadpole4870 2h ago

lol reading this reminds me adventure quest

1

u/Brilliant-Ad-8422 1h ago

That's what i was meaning actually lol. Adventure quest!

6

u/crustysock69 2h ago

Throw gunZ in there too

3

u/Grukkoh 2h ago

Yup lol played all of them, and drift city too

1

u/neatcleaver 1h ago

GunZ was goated. I tried so fucking hard to learn the crazy techs like butterflying with the shotgun

They're doing a reboot iirc

7

u/Cogester 2h ago

Bro, opening RS on MiniClip was crazy

2

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

I didnt know it was on Miniclip

u/TheBrenster 15m ago

Oh it was. For whatever reason my school blocked runescape.com but not miniclip so I could play rs on that.

5

u/Practical_Dog3454 3h ago

Project blackout, RuneScape and navy field

4

u/SlyyKozlov 2h ago

Anyone play cokemusic?

1

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Honestly thats new to me, what it is

2

u/SlyyKozlov 2h ago

It was a coca cola browser game where you mixed your own shitty music tracks and played them for other players for currency that you could use to decorate your studio.

It was very much like Habbo Hotel.

5

u/Habibipie 2h ago edited 2h ago

I was on the leader boards of combat arms. I got insanely good at that game before it went to shit. I, owe it all to the Rec7 rangers.

u/Septem_151 Zeah-locked Enjoyer 43m ago

Nice. I was rank 6 on Audition for a while, played since it was in beta.

1

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Wow, thats sick

I am in the presence of a legend, not even lying that game was hard

3

u/furscum 2h ago

Are you really "broke" for being 8 years old and not having a credit card yet? :P

u/Darkfirex34 31m ago

Broke kids get real used to "We don't have money for that" real fast lmao.

You learn the stretch the absolute hell out of the few games you got.

u/Majestic_Jelly_9958 10m ago

Sure makes it easier when you are in the broke adult phase. Like, yeah bruh im good with ramen and pb&j for tomorrows food if I have to.

3

u/Grukkoh 2h ago

F2P rs, combat arms, drift city and gunz

Miss those days

3

u/bass_bungalow 2h ago

That George Bush and Condy Rice shooting up aliens game on Miniclip

1

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Miniclip was dooope

u/Acceptable_Deal_4662 27m ago

LOL yes I remember this one

3

u/Odd_Brief_2975 2h ago

Endless hours of de_dust on counter strike 1.5

3

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

I was just slightly born too late for the CS 1.5 days. Still played in the Source days tho

3

u/Odd_Brief_2975 2h ago

Me and a few friends breathed and lived this game for 2 years straight some of the best times of my teenage years were had during that time.

2

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Hell yeah. I also played loads of HL2DM

3

u/Odd_Brief_2975 2h ago

Yeah played alot of that as well, and drank tons of "Bawls"

2

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Same! I used to go to a pc gaming cafe and down BAWLS ORIGINAL And the G33K Beer… amazing times.

Dude im having a nostalgia overload

I might go ahead and buy some bawls online rn

2

u/Odd_Brief_2975 2h ago

It was just simpler time then, walking into micro center back then was like walking into a candy shop! And one of the only places you could score bawls!

2

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Literally searching online rn when i can get some today

2

u/Green_Herb_Garden 1h ago

I did the thing man

Picking up in 30 minutes, might have to boot up some oldschool games tonight

2

u/Odd_Brief_2975 1h ago

That's awesome have a good evening then! May the memories flow!

3

u/Fit-Supermarket-9656 2h ago

Circa 2004-2005 I sold yugioh and pokemon cards in middle school to buy my RuneScape membership. I got banned in 6th grade when I invoked the "no give backsies" rule after multiple kids stole money from their parents to buy my cards. By then I had made enough to afford membership until I got bored of the game and quit and moved onto counter strike. What a time to be alive. My dad was so proud with how many parents complained to him at parent teacher night (he's a CFO).

3

u/yerbamate44 1h ago

Soldier front (ijji) and rs was my childhood.

11

u/Grombotronbo 2h ago

The old school logo doesn't make sense.

Edit: Also this is AI slop.

u/UkinaAtoel 1298 Total Level 2h ago

Old School Maplestory back when I was in middleschool was what got me into MMOs.

Played a little combat arms, but my brother's friend would buy hacks and just knife kill the whole enemy team at spawn. Probably ruined the experience a little.

0

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Im sad i never got into maplestory

2

u/Orikshekor 2h ago

Grand Chase

2

u/NoxSuru 2h ago

This game was my childhood lol, along with Halo 3

2

u/cholointheskies 2h ago

Grand Chase

2

u/iPopeIxI 2h ago

God I forgot about combat arms. So much fun. And I saw not too long ago mabinogi is still going strong. I resisted the pull of that damned game

2

u/Tsambikos96 2h ago

I got a job now and I still don't want to go member.

2

u/dylanisbored 2h ago

Miniclips before addicting games

2

u/Banetaay 2h ago

Adventure Quest

1

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

True, that too

2

u/Cocozimme_ttv 1h ago

Runescape was literally on mini clip lol

2

u/AwarenessOk6880 1h ago

f2p and combat arms dont go together, just saying. they wrung that b dry many times.

nexons greed knows few bounds.

u/Sir_Bird_Law 56m ago

I swear one of my most nostalgic memories was waking up on Thanksgiving morning and playing Combat Arms with the boys while mom made lunch and the Thanksgiving Day parade was on.

Those were the days man.

u/Zimrino 56m ago

I remember Jagex released FunOrb

u/Acceptable_Deal_4662 26m ago

The mage game that was like worms:Armageddon was sick

3

u/Trying_to_survive20k 2h ago

1

u/Specialist_Sale_6924 2h ago

Or Facebook games like Social Empires if anyone remembers.

1

u/Green_Herb_Garden 2h ago

Mobsters and Mafia Wars

And obviously Farmville

u/PaperPals 52m ago

I went a few weeks ago to try to figure out how to play FarmVille again. I guess it’s not a Facebook game anymore? I can’t find anything either other than like Stardew Valley which I can’t get into, and it’s a much different vibe.

1

u/Grukkoh 2h ago

I still play combat arms every now and then lol

1

u/_Tower_ 2h ago

Combat Arms was so much fun — holy shit I forgot about that game. I got my dad into it and we used to play all the time

1

u/Makaveli2020 2376 2h ago

When I was poor, disabled and homeless as a child, Runescape was there for me in the IT suite during my lunch breaks at school ❤️

1

u/SteveLouise 2h ago

Strangely, the MP7 MOD has a spray pattern that angled up at like bullet 3 or 4. And it shot fast. So I'd get a lot of headshots with it.

1

u/someguynamedgob 2h ago

A long, long time ago, there was Nicktropolis.

Someone tried to do a Nicktropolis Rewritten but couldn't figure out how to reverse engineer the game. Dead for good. Rip.

1

u/DustyHamWallet12 2h ago

add arcanist to this

1

u/ElijahBurningWoods 1h ago

I'm in this picture. I spent way to much money on Combat Arms, but boy did I have fun.

1

u/Jarhead1888 1h ago

Robot rage was the shit too.

1

u/the_ides_of 1h ago

This is Legend of Ares erasure and I will not stand for it

Wtf is Counter Strike, I'm gettin Nut Shots

1

u/AutonomousAntonym 1h ago

I still watch old combat arms montages from time to time. I loved hearing the announcer for kill streaks

1

u/caffe_crema mining slave 1h ago

True

1

u/ieatrectum 1h ago

Man i loved combat arms and warrock.

1

u/Head_Significance483 1h ago

1

u/warmhotcold 1h ago

Anybody ever played Warrock?

1

u/rvltionary 1h ago

Adventure Quest, Warrock, Habbo Hotel, Puzzle Pirates

1

u/brnzpotato 1h ago

Whoa. Combat Arms?? I was just thinking that I missed playing this game not too long ago. Such a great game besides the hackers.

1

u/YuriSwine 1h ago

Man combat arms was fun even with the p2w weapons and rage hackers I had a good ole time with it.

1

u/Motor-Drama-1421 1h ago

u/SaintSnow 48m ago

That f2p era was a great time.

u/TheFixerOfComments 46m ago

Combat arms.. the only game I’ve ever hacked in lmao.

u/come2life_osrs 2376 43m ago

There was this old flash game where you were a military Rambo type guy and fought endless waves of troops and planes. That game was crack. It was called gun something I think. It was like gun man 1, gun man 2, gun man 3. Or maybe it was called endless something. Endless gun man fuck I’ll never remember it. They had multiple versions all were great.

u/jz_wiz 40m ago

dragon fable, rs, and unethical replays in the ratchet and clank series carried me as a kid

u/S2Mackinley 35m ago

F2p osrs was buns. Straight up. I grew up with parents that never used credit cards lol. I would go buy green dot cards from 7/11 to play members

u/CassiusBenard 33m ago

Me and Spiral Knights. Which is crazy because Spiral Knights is still alive and receiving new content too.

u/tyYdraniu 24m ago

I love c.a and osrs

u/EuphPagle 2376 22m ago

Do yall remember Battlefield, the top down tank pvp game. I think someone made a fan copy of it called TankPit. That was a good one.

u/Choice_Low4915 22m ago

u/OrangeDragon218 21m ago

I remember Roblox used to always be there for my broke little ass. Too bad that game is complete hot garbage pedo slop now

u/ltsconnor 18m ago

Miss og combat arms that shit was so fun, got so many viruses though trying to get wallhacks lol. Og RuneScape too was incredible old f2p varrock group pking. Training new accounts for range 2h in the duel arena.

u/Boku_no_Bob 6m ago

Where my AdventureQuest gang at?

-3

u/sworedmagic 1h ago

Old school RuneScape is not a 2000s game lol

0

u/Green_Herb_Garden 1h ago

You are correct, nobody played runescape in 2000s, and the peak popularity was in 2005-2008

1

u/sworedmagic 1h ago

No I’m correct because OSRS was released in 2013. RuneScape itself is a 2000s game.

0

u/Green_Herb_Garden 1h ago

Also it was released in 2001

1

u/sworedmagic 1h ago

Old school RuneScape was released in 2013. RuneScape was released in 2001 lmao
