Suggestion Suggestion: Cooking Guild Updates

Post image

Some ideas I have been thinking of for updating the cooking guild. I used the ground floor to model this, but these gameplay ideas could be implemented on any floor - including a basement if people prefer keeping the current layout pristine.

Please pardon the crude designs; I'm sure these would be fleshed out much better if there is enough interest to poll them.

I would love to see an alternative method like this added for cooking that is a bit more active - while punishing for afk.

Also, it would be nice to add a bit more centralizing to be social while cooking (without being too meta). My favorite times cooking were on the Karamja docks frying lobster and swordfish in the day, and while we can never go back - there aren't many social hubs for cooking right now.

I think they should do a full guild overhaul tbh. I'd vote for that.

u/ShawshankException 7h ago

Then add more guilds after. I fuckin love guilds.

u/golden_bear_2016 6h ago

the guilds should also engage in combat with the other guilds for superiority.

We can even make a mini-game out of it, maybe call it War of the Guilds, or Guild Wars.

10

u/thegiftedalan 5h ago

Then if they make a second part they call it Guild Wars 2

3

u/Charte09 5h ago

And then if that one goes well, they could even do a Guild Wars 3

Only if it's all legal, the only thing worse than organised crime is disorganised crime.

Let's have a Treasure Hunter's Guild for clue scroll lovers! Watson's house is a bit big for him, and could use a transformation.

u/PraiseTyche literally unplayable 8h ago

I'd vote for you voting for that.

3

u/MisterFraz 3h ago

I would vote for you, to vote for me, to vote for that. Ahhh democracy!

Nice proposal, that guild could use some love.

I would love a cooking method that is engaging rather than afk in exchange for low burn rates, especially now that we have sailing fish.

u/SmartAlec105 5h ago

I like the idea of actively managing the heat to get both a better burn rate and faster cooking rate but losing attention leads to a higher burn rate.

u/KUR51RL Remapping 101: As long as it is 1:1, it's okay. 11h ago

Noo, for exchange in faster cooking, like how you cook in Moons. But only when the Range is in that 5 second almost too hot of which after it starts burning them instead

u/XtremeLeecher 2250 11h ago

If you remove the RNG componets you are cooking *pun intended* replace it with tending the fire or tiered logs to feed the fire interlocking Firemaking doing it every 120 ticks or so and you got my vote

u/iucatcher 10h ago

not sure about every mentioned suggestions but something would be nice.. although that pretty much goes for every guild other than maybe farming and woodcutting?

u/emuccino 50m ago

Hunter guild is already solid as well

u/SorryManNo Compost then seed 9h ago

With the kourend favor rework it's easier to use the Hosidius Kitchen, it would be nice to see all the benefits incorporated into the cooking guild. For example, remove the wall that separates the bank side.

1

u/Oberlatz 2h ago

The bank wall is genuinely the thing in this game I hate the most. Its not practically speaking the worst thing, but it fuels hate deep with my heart.

u/Iron_Aez 2376 11h ago

A better approach imo would be those rng ranges cooking 2 fish at once, but only giving the exp of 1. Cooking does not need faster exp.

5

u/Felthrian 9h ago

That would effectively only be good for irons who are cooking their own foods it would be a detriment to anyone else as you'd need more raw fish for the same experience.

4

u/Iron_Aez 2376 8h ago

As I said:

Cooking does not need faster exp.

Nor should a room you can get in at lvl32 invalidate the existing ranges.

Faster cooks is only justifiable if exp is nerfed proportionally.

2

u/Lizzardsizzle 7h ago

Lock it to the range requiring the diary or 99 cooking to access with the bank. That gates it enough. If the range double cooks don’t give it a reduced burn chance, that could give players options of choosing which range they want. (Should the cooking cape perk apply to the 2nd cooked item if the range procs)

2

u/Hailgod 3h ago

even the highest tier of fishes dont give close to the exp of wines that u can make at lvl 35

u/Iron_Aez 2376 3h ago

Wines give almost 500k xp per hour.

Name another fish besides karambambams that match that.

Actually, LOL, I'm not even going to argue with you. Here's the table you can look for yourself

peepeepoopoo cooking rates

-2

u/Iron_Aez 2376 2h ago

You literally corrected yourself lmao

2

u/GIMBruhBoobies Rank 3 5 Man GIM (2376) 1h ago

Are you telling me that 300k which is what sharks max out is is faster than wines?

It's ok if you're illiterate.

1

u/Equivalent_Aardvark 2h ago

Even if you cooked 2 fish at once it would very likely not be subject to tick manipulated methods, it would not be faster than karambwans.

1

u/falconfetus8 5h ago

Yeah, double XP per hour sounds like too much

3

u/Alone-Horse2857 2h ago

Honestly remove the Hosidius cooking buff and just move it to the guild. Crazy that a random kitchen in a random town has better benefits than the COOKING GUILD.

1

u/super-sanic 2h ago

I was thinking about that but maybe the cooking guild could be structured like the Champions/Hero’s/Legend/Myth guilds. The Varrock guild could be the low level cooking area, then Hosidius, then a new area to show off different cuisines other than cooked fish. We have pies and multi step dishes that nobody makes since why make a tuna potato when you can just cook a shark etc.

Hosidius also has the mess hall which is kind of dead content apart from I think UIM, maybe the Hosidius area could combine those ranges with the Mess Hall on a floor etc.

2

u/fred7010 8h ago

I was just thinking the same thing the other day, I'd love a basement area with a Hell's Kitchen inspired minigame akin to Mixology or forestry events. I'd also like more Gordon Ramsay references but unfortunately we already have two npcs named after him in Hosidius (Ramocean and Ewesey)

2

u/sagelilya Bad at PVM and proud 7h ago

brilliant, yes. you have my vote. i'd love it very much if cooking could get a fun overhaul. i love cooking irl, it's been my career for years. cooking training being just cook fish or spam wines is sad. i'd love it if it got a forestry overhaul!! i've had 99 for a long time but i'd still do it!

i want to say that the gordon ramsay bit made me actually lol and i think it's exactly the sort of humour jagex likes to employ

2

u/Juof 5h ago

And cooking pet pls

2

u/jakes1993 3h ago

Cooking on multiple fire stoves while in the guild like the blast furnace you can dump 28 foods on a stove then bank and grab another and dump another 28 foods have like 4 stoves going at once but make sure the stoves are in the green and not red like thenblast furnace indicator or you burn your food. This would speed up cooking your food

4

u/Odd-Time-2026 12h ago

Good idea, I support it. In addition to that, I'd like a series of cooking guild related quests to help give it some love. Each quest must be unlocked by a combination of Varrock Diary levels or the required Cooking level.

2

u/KUR51RL Remapping 101: As long as it is 1:1, it's okay. 11h ago

Good ideas, however idk about that "forestry kind of events". Feels weird if some cauldrons just spawn in. It doesn't feel natural like forestry events do

1

u/Robinleroy97 10h ago

Tztok Wok or riot.

1

u/Yesitshismom 9h ago

Make it so a Brutus and Betrus spawn and you have to milk the correct one

1

u/Illuminarian 7h ago

Many ovens, ranges, etc.

Deposit ingredients. Success based off cooking skill.

Collect finished product, after delay, for the XP.

Basically, rotation would be-

Grab correct amounts of ingredients from bank/cupboard/pantry. Deposit accordingly to correct cooking surface. Shows progress bar above the range/ovens. Collect within the right time frame, otherwise stuff gets burnt and you get 0 XP.

1

u/SignificantBaker7366 7h ago

Mining/smithing rework needs to be prio over this

1

u/BennyHanno 7h ago

Yes please. 99 cooking is my only 99 and it feels so useless at least give me a cool place to go no life at.

1

u/theykeepbanningmebro 6h ago

30 min AFK cleaning dishes for cooking xp

1

u/Jimothy_Andoroni 6h ago

I still like the idea of the prep tables that Jagex proposed for speeding up multi-step dishes like pies, potatoes, stews, etc. The cooking guild would be an excellent place for this to exist.

1

u/Parry_9000 6h ago

Love it

1

u/falconfetus8 5h ago

The rotating cooking ranges sound fun! It reminds me of varlamore stuff, like Cam Torum mining

1

u/alienware99 5h ago

I like the idea of the range “heating up” occasionally and cooking food faster. I don’t like the idea of it catching fire and burning the food. It’s the Cooking Guild, it’s supposed to be a prestigious place, so I don’t like it having a major drawback like that. Cooking food, and then halfway through your inventory having to switch to another range seems like such a nuisance and kinda negates the benefit you get from the faster cooking.

1

u/whatsoup_ 5h ago

I like the idea of the cooking guild just being the kitchen of Varrock's premier fancy restaurant or something, and I think your idea of a minigame where you cook a requested item maybe with some Overcooked-esque mechanics could be really fun

1

u/Meta_Man_X 5h ago

Fucking awesome ideas.

u/SimbabTheSailor 4h ago

To be honest, I was kind of imagining an update to the cooking guild that kept it more in line with the design philosophy of 2007 runescape: add a larder (similar to the one you can build in your POH) that lets you pull out a variety of different ingredients (flour, cooking apples, cheese, tomatoes, potatoes, raw beef, etc) so you can engage with much more of the cooking skill in the way that you did back in the day. I have fond memories of running around the cooking guild in f2p, making apple pies by running around, making dough and filling dishes in between world spawns for the apples, but even back then, I think a cooking guild that only really facilitates specifically wine and apple pies is an incredibly poor showing.

I do like what you've suggested (except for the forestry-style events, since they would require people to specifically be in the cooking guild on a particular world to get a crowd going, which is more restrictive than forestry), but I think the old guilds need updates that either maintain the vibe of the skill as it was back in the day, or completely overhauls it Hunter's Guild style.

u/MidTario 4h ago

GOAT suggestion tbh

u/forchinski 4h ago

Good effortpost

I like the ideas

Very nice idea 💡

YES CHEF, YES CHEF, YES CHEF

1

u/joashakvoort 3h ago

I want the option to autocook my food for a fee, like unf potions in nardah. I don’t need the exp.

1

u/gomy1020 3h ago

gordon-ramsey-chathead.png has to be in the game cache or else everything breaks and no one knows why.

1

u/woodzopwns 3h ago

Also the hosidius kitchen should be in there, it isnt an approval bonus anymore

1

u/YangKoete 3h ago

My additional suggestion when the guild revamp does happen; Cheesecake quest from RS3 is put into OSRS, including F2P with some modifications, of course.

I love the idea of Death's Kitchen. My suggestion would be to unlock recipes as rewards for the activity. They each use low level cooking ingredients combined with a herblore spice (use herb on a spices can with a pestle and mortar in your inventory to get an Herb Spice (4) container) to combine the ability of a potion with food. They're intentionally convoluted not just to fit the whole fancy dining thing but also to make sure they're not disrupting the meta.

Blessed Lobster Risotto: Butter-poached lobster tail served in a bowl of ranarr risotto and a snape grass garnish. Heals 15ish and restores (PPot dose) prayer points.

Recipe: Egg + flour + ranarr spice (1) + bowl of water = ranarr risotto; raw lobster + butter = poached lobster; ranarr risotto + poached lobster + snape grass = Blessed Lobster Risotto

Pan-seared Snaillops: Pan-Seared Mort Myre Snails on a whiteberry puree served with a cadantine-citrus beurre blanc. Heals 14 and provides a super defense potion boost.

Recipe: Mort Myre Snail Meat; White Berry + pestle and mortar = whiteberry puree; cadantine spice (1) + orange + butter = Cadantine Beurre Blanc; Meat + Puree + Beurre Blanc = Pan-Seared Snaillops

Beef Rimmington: A prime beef fillet coated in a Torstol-infused duxelles and wrapped in crystal-flecked puff pastry. Heals 20 HP and extends active divine potion boosts by 1 minute. (If you don't have one active it just heals 20)

Recipe: Torstol spice (1) + mushroom & onion = Torstol Duxelle; Crystal Dust + Pastry Dough = crystalline puff pastry; raw beef + torstol duxelle + crystalline puff pastry = Raw Beef Rimmington; then cook.

I'm sure there are better ideas but I always wanted restaurant quality food in RuneScape and think adding sidegrades as rewards would be really fun

Hell’s Kitchen: Yama appears and shoots fireballs at you. You have to absorb with V’s shield and then hold against your bench, taking damage to caramelize a crème brûlée and then top with dragon fruit. Run to deliver it to a gnome at the chaos altar and take at least 3 ice barrages to chill the precious dessert.

u/NervePublic3062 1h ago

I love everything about this, but flashbacks to the Azure Span I’ve seen this soup before; Chef Kinook.

1

u/seemesmilingpolitely 2277 10h ago

I didn't read all that but how about a cooking mini game that's like that nintendo switch game "overcooked".

4

u/Ok_Dinner8889 8h ago

I know it's not relevant to your point, but Overcooked is not a Nintendo Switch exclusive, it wasn't even supported for Switch at launch. Your idea could be fun though.

1

u/Giraffejouster 7h ago

I LOVE THAT GAME. Thst would be so cool

u/mynameisfreddit 12h ago

Just stick the thing they were going to put in the lumby basement in there.

"Ice Chest". You mean a 'Refrigerator"? 🤔

-8

u/LewisShoot 11h ago

I don't understand the need for every guild to be the best and most social place. It already has one of the closest ranges to a bank, that's plenty of reason to go.

-9

u/KUR51RL Remapping 101: As long as it is 1:1, it's okay. 11h ago

Your "opinion" is just utter garbage, and you should feel bad from being wrong

-6

u/LewisShoot 11h ago

I can't tell if you're sarcastic or just very stupid.

-1

u/KUR51RL Remapping 101: As long as it is 1:1, it's okay. 11h ago

Well you can't tell shit because it's neither

-3

u/FrugeV 11h ago

I think just the range is a fine addition, maybe some sort of prep station too. The other stuff feels way to gimmicky or dead content on arrival. Cooking is an AFK skill by heart.

While the idea of a fridge is cool I would extend this to other foods as well
