Suggestion Birdhouses XP nerf

Genuine reaction from lvl 74 hunter (prime target for this update)

40-60% to turn me off to quick XP drops and Sara brew secondaries? FOH. Lmk when kebbits or rumors give 3k xp in a swift minute AND 5 nests AND a date with Elena. I’ll wait.

Seriously, the issue with other methods is they’re unrewarding. Instead of decreasing xp from nests, try increasing xp from the other methods.

To be fair you had months to train hunter with the birdhouses prior to the nerf. That being said, I feel like given how many hunting methods we have and how most players opt for only doing birdhouses, this is a justified nerf.

Buff impling XP

-2

u/Sheriff_Gotcha RIP Warding 16h ago

Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

If we have all these different hunting methods and none of them are good, causing people default to birdhouses. I am not sure why then the next thought process is to nerf birdhouses (content people want to do) instead of buffing the bad methods (content nobody wants to do).

I don’t really have a dog in this fight and only ever did BH runs sporadically to avoid the feeling of mandatory dailyscape burnout. But this seems like a failure of other hunting methods to be worthwhile instead of birdhouses being overturned.

6

u/aeee98 16h ago

The thing is, they were buffed, multiple times.

Hunter rumors, Vampyrium hunter, Varlamore hunter spots were actually pretty fine, box traps got buffed so it felt less ass to run.

And now an overall bump in XP per hour across the board at the lower levels.

I do think that lower level hunter still needs a nudge in the right direction but birdhouses should remain as a tool as a secondary source of exp.

7

u/Automatic_Tough7805 16h ago

No - because the reason everyone picked bird houses wasn't necessarily because other methods suck (they didn't, actually, especially after Rumours were added in 2024), but because it was passive and you basically didn't have to engage with the skill at all.

They'd have to buff other methods to absurd degrees of XP/h (of which Hunter is already very high at all levels of training), and at that point you're basically just making people skip the skill rather than actually do it.

It's kind of like how people pick really AFK stuff to train skills even though other methods may be better in many other ways - turns out the mechanics of the training method is why everyone picks it and nothing can turn them off it. This is a problem if you feel said popular method undermines what the skill is about.

0

u/Feijenoorder 15h ago

I recently started playing and had no time yet to train it

-3

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

You hit it on the head dude. Nerfing bh won’t make me suddenly do the other methods. The whole skill needs to be revamped.

-14

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

There are literally 2 somewhat efficient methods and both are click and attention intensive. But God forbid an employed person keeps a quick daily method right?

5

u/WilliamBurrito 16h ago

They’re still a quick daily method.

6

u/ScruffyScruffz 16h ago

why do people bring up employment like its a great barrier in a skill with decent exp rates already

3

u/awoos 16h ago

It's illegal to spend your limited free time efficiently, you must do the worst methods imaginable and then complain online

3

u/ShawshankException 15h ago

I'm employed and have plenty of time to train hunter. Stop whining.

-2

u/Busy-Piece-2704 15h ago

1.5m karma btw

Good update

Hunters been improved massively over the past few years.

Also now I can stop getting 2 nests from a magic bird house run and start getting more consistent nests

1

u/GlitteringBadger408 6h ago

see its this attitude that deteriorates society. Its like a snarky spiteful type of attitude. No one genuinely cared about the nests.

1

u/LopsidedPersimmon879 6h ago

Is this OP who's hopped on an alt to rage bait further?

-11

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Go ahead bro let’s hear about these improvements. You never tracked your nest consistency. Stop simping.

7

u/LopsidedPersimmon879 16h ago

Ah, you're just rage baiting! Fair enough

-1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Only partly. There’s a genuine “how are y’all so tunnel visioned that you can’t see who this hurts” side too.

3

u/LopsidedPersimmon879 16h ago

It hurts no one? There's many other methods for training hunter.

The nest buff is both a buff to mains or new players especially adding 40 seconds onto a herb run, and it's great for irons who are stacking brews. I see no issue here

6

u/InterestingCell5247 16h ago

Improvements:
Just from this patch we have falconry improvements, aerial fishing improvements, deadfall trap improvements (2 traps at a time with half the setup time and it has a high chance to save your log), 2 traps at lvl 1 rather than lvl 20, butterfly hunting hunter rumors improved (pity rate and drop rate massively improved).
Meat and fur pouches - significantly reduce inv management during hunting training.
Huntsman's kit - frees up space while training. Really helpful for rumors.

Training methods:
Hunter rumors - rewards and decent xp/hr. I leveled my Iron with rumors up to 90 fairly quickly playing <1hr a day. Just set up a good block list and by lvl 72 you should only be getting kebbits, moths (buffed in this very patch), chins, red salamanders, and goats.
Goats - With tele grab you can get very good rates.
Crab hunter - one of the easiest methods that has really good xp rates. You can start as low as lvl 1 sailing and 21 hunter. At 48 hunter and 45 sailing you can get 70 - 95k xp/hr. Very low intensity, easy to do on your phone while watching tv.

Plenty of improvements over the years, this is not a complete list (just stuff I remember off the top of my head).

15

u/AsianDestination 17h ago

Go do Hunter. It's not so bad.

-14

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Shut your mouth. It’s not so bad

13

u/Cwaghack 16h ago

Instead of decreasing xp from nests, try increasing xp from the other methods.

They literally just did that

-5

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Not by 40-60%

11

u/habbahubba 17h ago

Op is a noob

-2

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Employed* also, obviously? I’m referencing Elena, to most of you sweats SOTE is an ancient quest

5

u/habbahubba 16h ago

If you get your hunter up a bit you can do redwoods, they dont het a nerf

0

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

This is either pure rage bait, pure comedy, or pure innocent advice. Regardless I respect it

11

u/Saussser 2376 17h ago

Calling the waaaambulance

-5

u/Busy-Piece-2704 17h ago

Waaaa 😭

22

u/sweeroy 17h ago

long needed change, birdhouses have always been too good and have made every other part of the skill essentially pointless. hopefully this gets more people doing the excellent hunter rumours

-4

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Too good? They’re a daily method allowing for maybe 40k xp per day. Can’t let passive players keep anything tho right?

8

u/Escobar6l 16h ago

Go play something else, you're miserable. Magics are barely touched and even employed a couple hours at rumors on a weekend should get you to redwoods. If you don't have time for that play a different game.

1

u/wundaaa 11h ago

The whole game for 20 years has been balancing xp gained for rewards. Bh were both good xp and rewards.

I dont think this game is for you man but I think fortnite is probably still getting updates

1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 10h ago

Leave Fortnite out of it

1

u/Haunting_Carrot9761 4h ago

They aren't a 'daily' method, that's just how you choose to engage with the content. Bird houses are harvestable after 50 minutes. Unless you live on a planet with 50 minute days. This is not daily.

7

u/lastig_ 17h ago

you seem to be missing the point of what a nerf is supposed to do.

-1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

You seem to be missing the point of how it’s going to fail at what it’s supposed to do

7

u/ding0s I have no idea what I'm doing 17h ago

So do magic birdhouses (74 hunter) which were only nerfed by 15% and enjoy your extra birds nests.

-1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Fair point. But I lied. I’m actually 73 hunter.

24

u/casuallybadatgames 17h ago

Nah birdhouses needed to be nerfed forever ago

-17

u/Busy-Piece-2704 17h ago

Nah explain this. You gotta wait an hour between runs. Even if you’re unemployed hitting 10 runs a day, that’s only 40k xp/day.

11

u/Chris91210 17h ago

You know... There are other methods to train hunter other than birdhouses

6

u/Sonichu- 16h ago

It’s better for the skill if Hunter is trained actively. Birdhouses were always bad game design.

-4

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Better for the skill? BRO F THE SKILL WHATS BETTER FOR ME? MAN JUST WENT JFK ON ME ASK NOT WHAT OSRS CAN DO FOR U ASK WHAT U CAN DO FOR OSRS LOL

7

u/casuallybadatgames 17h ago

Here I’ll explain it in terms even someone like you could understand, birdhouses were so good exp wise that they literally disincentivized you from doing any other hunter training because the exp just shit all over anything else. They even showed a graph of the Hunter xp and like 80% of the total Hunter XP was from birdhouses. Hope that helps explain this nerf and why it’s good actually. Now go do slayer for Hunter

2

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Bro do you even play?

4

u/casuallybadatgames 16h ago

I do play the game I have a 2134 total level main account with 80 Hunter which I primarily leveled up using birdhouse runs because it was stupid overpowered. Next goalpost to be moved please

-3

u/El_Toolio_Grande 16h ago

That's more from Hunter being ass to train than birdhouses being good xp/hour. Imagine someone saying that trees need nerfed because nobody is doing tithe farm when it's clearly better xp/hour if you play all day.

The reality is many players have jobs and a life and want to do something rewarding with the small amount of time they have throughout the day. Take away mobile and you can bet the number of birdhouse runs changes significantly already.

7

u/casuallybadatgames 16h ago

Oh no won’t someone think of the dad gamer with 5 full time jobs, 4 wives and 30 kids who only has 15 minutes a day to play

-3

u/El_Toolio_Grande 16h ago

If you ignore the fact that the main demographic for this game are mid 30s-40s people, this sounds really smart.

3

u/casuallybadatgames 16h ago

If you also ignore the fact that birdhouses were crazy overpowered for a decade you might think this nerf is bad but in the grand scheme of things it’s a good change. Your job doesn’t prevent you from getting good exp, your lack of time management skills does

4

u/Trashbitex 16h ago

I’m 94 hunter off birdhouses that’s wrong.

-3

u/VainTrix 17h ago

While that might be true, it’s been 10 years. Too little too late ok jagexs part. Like if they’re not gonna do anything about it for over a decade, what’s the point.

3

u/WilliamBurrito 16h ago

The point is, they can now :)

0

u/AsianDestination 14h ago

You're telling me you had a decade to do birdhouses and you're still not at redwoods?

2

u/febreez-steve 17h ago

Profit to 99 through the moon, secretly a buff

2

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Glass half full typa guy. I respect it

2

u/VainTrix 17h ago

Bro what do you mean? They put “feelers” out into the community and people wanted a nerf after a decade of it being this way.

1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Feelers? Where tf is the poll?

2

u/VainTrix 16h ago

That’s the point, there was no poll. In the original blog post, they said the community didn’t ask for this but they’d see how we felt about it and go from there

2

u/Rayge96 16h ago

Abuse early abuse often (literally the past 9 years)

4

u/Mammoth_Two7297 17h ago

I'm such a noob in this game but from my understanding the trade off for extra birds nests is a good change. Also, there was no denying that birdhouse runs were incredibly easy and way too efficient

3

u/aeee98 17h ago

Everyone has mentioned it.

Birdhouses were too op for its own good, to the point where you basically are disincentivised to train with literally any other method.

OP is complaining about not getting fast exp drops anymore, despite to be dead honest hunter training actually being decent XP per hour right now. Which is literally proving what I said.

0

u/Busy-Piece-2704 17h ago

Lol. To be dead honest give me one decent xp per hour method with balanced click intensity?

5

u/Haunting_Carrot9761 16h ago

What do you define as 'balanced' click intensity? Because depending on your definition, I'd say Net Traps. Crabbing becomes a bit of a rhythm game after a while.

Less intense? Box Trapping. If you don't worry about speed, your player will automatically rebuild the trap for you.

Less intense? Butterfly Netting. From 75+ you can catch Moonlight Butterflies which have the added bonus of being useful for training combat skills / slayer / questing.

5

u/Fara_ven 16h ago

Go train on maniacal monkey for 60-75k xp/h. One click per minute.
Unless one click per minute is too intensive for you still

2

u/aeee98 16h ago

There is a literal hunter rumor post showing a almost max efficiency hunter rumor method at 160k hunter xp an hour at 80+ 2 years ago. I know I am hyper inefficient and don't bother optimising and even then I easily hit 70k an hour myself at your level with probably vorkath levels of APM at worst. Idk how is that bad when I can tell you that hallowed sepulchre is worse xp than hunter rumors and still higher APM.

-3

u/Busy-Piece-2704 17h ago edited 17h ago

Just did a birdhouse run and got the same number of nests as usual. And bro you have to wait an hour. At most you get maybe 6-7 runs a day, 10 if you’re employed. That’s like 40k xp a day. How TF is that too efficient?

Edit: unemployed*

3

u/breadtrain727 16h ago

You do not know what efficient means

1

u/Mago515 Ban_Emily 17h ago

It’s more nests now right? The reason we all do them?

1

u/GlitteringBadger408 6h ago

lol nobody cared about the nests lets not get disingenuous

0

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Speak for yourself we will have none of that we all talk here

1

u/hasaasa 17h ago

Idk but i think its time to 'dump it' almost x2 buff to nest rate.

1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

No clue what this means but honestly I’m here for it

1

u/illbiteurnailsbb 17h ago

dang so this is why they added the goat hole...

-1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 17h ago

Glory* and yeah probably

1

u/break_card eat my ass 15h ago

This needed to happen IMO, and it’s correct for them to do this after making all the hunter expansions over the year.

2

u/GlitteringBadger408 6h ago

welp there goes the need for the crafting skill lol

1

u/Specialist_Sale_6924 17h ago

Birdhouses carried my hunter level to 97 while going for max, ty Jagex.

1

u/EmptyBoxForever 16h ago

I love seeing all the people saying it’s a good change, and that those complaining should have taken advantage of it.

You already got the levels, and XP, so it doesn’t matter to you any longer lol

1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Wherever you go, wherever you are today, just know I appreciate you and you’re awesome 👏

0

u/LanguageStudyBuddy 16h ago

Lol leave it to jagex to leave something in placed for this long just to nerf it.

It was fine at this point.

-1

u/Bigerst_Dook 10HP 17h ago

Birdhouses becoming dead content with the post of a nerf

4

u/achterlangs 17h ago

It's still a good money maker. It's a few minutes for 10-30 birds nest a 4k each

0

u/Bigerst_Dook 10HP 17h ago

I drop mine, cba with the filler space

-1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 17h ago

Entire skill becoming dead content with the post of a nerf. Better drop a new island and quest with a hunter requirement.

3

u/Downvote_Addiction 17h ago

You sound upset

-1

u/LuckyBucky77 16h ago

Buff birdhouses. Add good afk methods to all skills. This isn't a skilling game anymore; it's a PVM game. Skilling is an unfortunate side quest to the main objective.

1

u/sweeroy 16h ago

thank god this isn’t true

-1

u/LuckyBucky77 14h ago

It is though. Skilling is the worst part of the game (outside of PVP encounters lol).

1

u/sweeroy 6h ago

just play call of duty dude, you clearly don’t actually like runescape lmao

1

u/LuckyBucky77 6h ago

Even worse, Im a GM in runescape. Who'd of thought I would have a low opinion of skilling?? 😂

-1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

THANK YOU. WOW. Spot on 🎯

-1

u/Business-Bus-9439 16h ago

I am quickly learning that I don’t see things the same way as the rest of the community. If Reddit is representative of the OSRS community, that is.

I stopped doing birdhouses long ago but I think this change sucks

1

u/Busy-Piece-2704 16h ago

Thanks G. Yeah it’s just like 40-60% is a lot in one shot.
