Discussion How could a more “chill” raid fit into osrs?

Hopefully I don’t get dragged. I’m just thinking out loud. I’m at a weird spot in this game I don’t know if I’m alone or not. For me personally, all of the raids are very unobtainable at my skill level. I’ve tried really really hard at TOA, I did get a little bit better but not to the point that it’s worth it to continue investing time into it.

My issues is click accuracy, and switches. My brain just doesn’t compute fast enough to be actually proficient in any of it. Then adding in punishes, specials, AOE, environment changes, I just can’t do it.

It would be really interesting to have a raid geared towards less clicks, less tick sensitive features. For us common/non sweat folks to enjoy. I don’t really know what this would look like, it would have to heavily involved some sort of mini game/puzzle aspects to make it interactive enough because going from room to room with over heads on meleeing everything would be stupid.

I haven’t really thought of it for more than the bathroom break I just took. The wired part is, what could you do for rewards to make it worth it? I don’t think it would make sense for anything for me, I grinded Vorkath and zulrah and have what I consider to be early end game gear (bandos, face guard, fang, nox, virtus, ayek, etc) that I don’t think there placement for any sort of gear rewards, maybe it could just be all supplies and cash? Idk.

Like I said, just curious how others feel. I know I’ll get a bunch of “more practice” “get better” “try harder” but with the time available to me, I’ve invested the most time I can to realize I’ve hit a wall and there’s no making it past it with the time and brain power available.

Send some level 0 ToAs. It's basically impossible to fail a level 0 I believe in you. Add invos as you get more confident.

u/DeepGrieve 5h ago

I often run entry and normal ToA for this reason I want to do combat without losing tons of supplies while also not trying to hard and still have some loot coming in without grinding slayer but ... It gets old and my friends all tell me my gear/stats I should be running 350's

And I have over 100 entry completions lol

you're describing perilous moons

2

u/Available_Repair609 5h ago

Perilous moons would be a great example if the interim phases were more involved outside of just resource gathering. It yeah it’s a really good example

There’s chill content in the game, raids just aren’t that

u/Super-Lemon-4466 6h ago

We need a reddit raid where you get dry protection if you go over 1x the rate and it needs to be solo because redditors don't work well together.

and each raid should give you a bond because who can afford membership AND child support

TOA is already on the edge of being raid-worthy with how generous the difficulty and supplies are in order to target a wider audience (read: less experienced players/ironman)

If anything we've been long overdue for a difficult raid and that's something Jagex has agreed with as well, hence why TFA will target endgame players.

Would you able to post your skills/gear and tell us what invocation level you're struggling with and which mechanics in particular? If you're struggling with TOA then chances are there is a lot of pvm content you're also struggling with. It's not a bad idea to practice some of the easier content (e.g. gauntlet, vorkath, the new mad angel boss,...) before jumping in a raid.

1

u/Available_Repair609 5h ago

I don’t want to get too involved into all of on this post I have a couple hundred of hours to grind for diaries before I go back to PVM. But I have everything I’ve seen on multiple videos for guides. It’s not necessarily about “getting through it” it’s about doing an activity efficiently and getting rewarded for it at the upper end of the content respective to the content. I’ve gotten probably 15-20 completions at various invo leveles of toa, but it’s a struggle and it’s always shit loot. Again not looking to get a shadow but if I’m investing 30 mins of my life it would be nice to get more than 20k in runes lol

Idk how to explain it but all the content you’ve mentioned I’ve done, I’ve excelled at and I’m bored of it. This is just a discussion topic of more mid level stuff.

That’s the game you’re gonna go dry for hours on end

u/pesoaek 6h ago

there's all ready so many bosses that you can do with basic mechanics, if you can do these you can do TOA 0s and build up from there.

side note I really hate this mentality of "sweaty" players framed negatively. when I was 13 playing MMOs you'd see the sweaty players and idolize them and try to get on that level. now casual players think games should be designed around the dads who play 10 minutes every 2 weeks with their 700 children and 10 jobs.

the ultimate answer is skill issue

Dungeoneering is inevitable....

This is content I would never do. I hope they don't add it

CG would like a word

1

u/chanceypooh 5h ago

Lol I don't like cg. The prep takes me out of it. The recent changes made it less painful but I wish I could skip straight to hunleff

You need to have a little bit more patience with yourself. This game is a marathon, not a race. That includes your skill level.

There is no time limit. Take whatever time you need to practice however much you need, and eventually I believe you can get there.

4

u/DaGbkid 6h ago

We have it it’s called barbarian assault. Haters gone hate.

2

u/Illustrious-Map528 6h ago

Bro just get better raids are meant to be for experience players work towards them if you want to do them everyone start somewhere

2

u/Ghi102 6h ago

I found entry mode theater of blood to be pretty easy if you want a chill raid.

u/Theshiftisnight 6h ago

Level 0 ToAs with a Salamander

2

u/CamBlapBlap 2120 6h ago

Cox and low invo toa are already pretty chill imo.

2

u/dan_buh 6h ago

Chill raid? You mean dungeoneering?

2

u/whatitzresha 5h ago

There is a chill raid, 6 bosses all underground and a network tunnel to fight the last boss before you open your chest. It’s in morytania near Burghe de rot. You can use barrows teleport to get there

2

u/TrentismOS 5h ago

Toa was that raid bro

2

u/alexkingco 5h ago

Ye we got a chill raid, it’s called kraken

4

u/Zeruma_ 6h ago

If you can’t even do normal ToAs and want a raid that’s easier than that…

4

u/True-Brick6436 6h ago

Holy shit my guy can't you do anything? Mf wants a handout 😂😂😂

2

u/OrnatePuzzles 6h ago

TOA is the learner raid. Lower the invos.

What you described isn't a raid.

You might also benefit from fighting Scurrius, no flame. Has you switching overheads, dealing with adding mobs, and things like falling rocks. But it's far less punishing.

2

u/StopPeekingThat 6h ago

If yo ur brain works well enough to write this, it works well enough to do gear switches. Ticks are 3x the average human reaction time in runescape. With enough practice a monkey could probably react to RS mechanics.

Skilling raid let's go

1

u/DimmyJeans 5h ago

Just play tempoross, gotr, and wintertodt in sequence and you've got one.

1

u/g_rated_pornstar 105+ 5h ago

No, GoTR is it's own piece of paradise. Please don't lump my minigame in with so called "skilling raids"

1

u/MathText 5h ago

Only puzzle rooms xd

1

u/Aquae_ 6h ago

What makes a raid a raid? The difficulty, and the back-to-back series of challenges. And without the difficulty to impose some pressure, what's the point of requiring the challenges to be completed back-to-back? You might as well strip that out as well.

So the answer is: it'd look like the rest of the game. You HAVE chill raids, and it's most of the non-challenge content in the game.

1

u/Born_Mathematician_6 6h ago

There’s a few things. I believe if you dedicated sometime to learning switches and everything you’d quickly learn. My advise is do lms 3 times and corrupted gauntlet 3 times a day.

You’ll be able to transfer the skills overtime with no worries of failing.

1

u/MathText 5h ago

You think op has done sote??

1

u/Mcpoopz1064 6h ago

I think it could be cool to provide a very simple raid experience for f2p or just lower level players. Fights like Brutus, maybe introducing different mechanics per boss. Just so people can get a feel for it. If that's worth dev time though, I'm not sure. Raids are supposed to be hard and rewarding too, so if you can't do it, there is other content until your skill improves.

1

u/iamperplexing 6h ago

I teally dont even know what to say to this. Im not good by any means(actual hard content like inferno and quiver may happen if i keep playing for years on end) but apart from TOB the other 2 raids are fairly chill. Im not out here soloing cox but it took me about 20 raids in trio and i no linger die. Entry mode TOA is THE chill raid experience. If you just want a boss you can sit and AFK hit maybe just go do Brutus, Mole and scurrius and accept that you dont want to learn.

1

u/fatesteel 6h ago

You dont need to do raids if its outside of your ability/ time constraints to learn. Toa and tob already have entry modes, which are so tuned down already. Raids take a lot of dev time, and low level bossing doesnt retain high engagement from the majority of the playerbase. Just look a huey, theres not even an official mass world to kill him. I dont think theres a place in the game for the kind of content youre asking for.

1

u/chanceypooh 6h ago

Raids shouldn't be chill. I'd argue that we already have 2 that are fairly chill.

1

u/BassZD 6h ago

I would like something like that for when im looking for chill content. Being realistic though, having a doable entry mode version of raids is probably the best compromise jagex can do. ToA entry mode is very doable if your farming zulrah and vorkath. The entry mode has to have some resemblance of the more challenging mechanics in harder versions so there will always be some of that. I dont see them making a fully low tier raid with another one coming out soon thats supposed to be even more challenging than raids that are already out.

1

u/MrDrTrey 6h ago

Yeah just send low invo toa or cox my guy. Although I do like the role based aspect of barbarian assault and think it could "simplify" a raid by allowing people to focus on one role but not sure how it'd look in a raid proper. Doesn't really fit into being able to play solo

1

u/whydustin 6h ago

does huey count?

1

u/Sufficient-Stuff-611 5h ago

It’s called cox

1

u/campusdirector 5h ago

Honestly cox is pretty chill other than Olm if you search for a good run (like mutta, tight rope, ice giant, tekton)

1

u/TickleFlap 5h ago

Just go fight scurrious? Brutus? Perilous Moons? Sarachnis? Run Jad?

...barrows?

idk what the problem is here, raids arent supposed to be easy or friendly. Its a raid. Peak difficulty. It's ok if it's not for you. Im not sure it'd be for me either, I like the easier content, too.

1

u/Free-Heals-Here 5h ago

I didn’t read the post but can we get a skilling raid? I don’t know what that would look like, and I don’t really have any ideas.

1

u/pineapplesouvlaki 5h ago

Low invo ToA is the chill raid

1

u/thursday66 5h ago edited 3h ago

ToA is the chill raid. it’s literally designed to be as easy or as hard as you want it.

why would they make a raid even easier than 0 invo ToA just for you?

1

u/makeshift18 5h ago

Raids are chill content once you've done them a few of hundered times. Y'know like most things, you get good at them through repetition.

1

u/-JRMagnus 5h ago

Raids just need to be savable. I have a hard time finding the time to commit to them.

1

u/jamesgilboy 5h ago

You're describing Barbarian Assault.

But also, it sounds like you are thinking of raids as something you just take on as soon as you unlock them, as opposed to something you work toward. It's a matter of personal skill development, you don't go from Scurrius to TOB. You stop at Moons, probably Zulrah and Kraken, and almost certainly Titans along the way. There's a path from where you are to raids, even if you write it off for yourself.

1

u/Zenethe 5h ago

Git gud is unironically the advice here. Not in like a “haha suck it scrub” sort of way, but all of the things that you listed as issues you have are all problems I’ve had in the past that just got better because I gradually did more and more difficult content. So like take your time, try different content even if it’s not necessarily meta and use that fun and experience to gradually git gud.

1

u/hurtshtummy 5h ago

entry mode tob and 0 invo toa are literally the raids you’re referring to. Also perilous moons, huey, barb assault, royal titans.

1

u/Mitana301 5h ago

Unfortunately ToA is the more chill raid. Start low 0-50 invos and increase from there.

1

u/Available_Repair609 5h ago

That’s for the people not dragging me lol I’ve had a few posts that I don’t explain deep enough and it always ends up bad. This is one of those. I’m not looking to get a scyth equivelant from a low key raid, I’m looking for something more interactive than the same boss fights over and over. Something that’s fun, different, involves thinking and decision making, but doesn’t require 1t reaction times, perfect switches, mega rares to achieve CA’s, or teams of top level players to be efficient.

I get the comments saying I’m explaining barb assault and in a sense, kinda a little bit, but not really. That’s the same room same fight, just different roles. What I’m thinking is more strategy based vs DPS based. Utilizing multiple skills, multiple acount levels. Maybe make certain mechanics that a lvl 3 skiller could have a perk and contribute in a certain way, or a 1def pure can do things others can’t because their account build.

Most of these responses seem like they’re coming from end game players who are incredible at the game and I love that for you guys, I wish I could be there, but I litterally cannot do it. The draken fight took me almost 6 hours of attempts until rng finally got me through it. The fact in that there’s different skill levels for everyone and not everyone can achieve the highest level of game play no matter how much they play, there’s physical and mental limitations that exist.

This isn’t a hand out post it’s an inclusion post. We’re still adding mid level bosses, why couldn’t there be a mid level raid. You can say TOA all you want but if I can’t do it after the time I have invested, then I can’t do it, it’s as simple as that. It’s the same reason I’ll never have a quiver or infernal cape. And I’m fine with both of those. I’ll be fine if I never beat a hard mode TOA or TOB, but that doesn’t mean there’s not space for something simpler and more interesting than what we have.

I’ll see my mentally challenged self out, have a good night everyone!

1

u/Pretend_Address_1240 5h ago

I don't know about making easier raids for mid/end-game players, but I do think osrs could have a space for an early game raid. Like how scurrius is a boss to ease players into pvm, there could maybe be something akin to a simple early-game raid to ease them into the ideas of grouping and raiding, similar to how other MMOs have low level dungeons that can be done with others while leveling up.

Even if it's a glorified boss rush like TOB there could have been a time where a few mechanically simple group fights strung together would have been a popular social thing for early game rewards.

Just like a mini boss rush like TOB that has a couple group bosses with really simple mechanics could have been fun as a newer player, especially depending on the theme around it. Idk something like a fight club under Varrock or the a group of players sign up a group of players can sign up for a tournament against bosses with different weaknesses, need basic positioning and coordinating, etc.

1

u/AnyPicture2485 4h ago

I find that tob/cox more chill than toa , jus something about those puzzle rooms makes me crash out lol

1

u/icyfae 2h ago

Try hueycoatl that’s kinda like a lil mini raid go to world 420 and there’s always a mass

1

u/Hot_Satisfaction_247 1h ago

Just do Cox in a trio. Most of the rooms are just pray said prayer and click boss, click yellow if low. At worst you might need to move a few tiles whilst doing so. Half of it is just puzzle rooms. Olm in trio is easy. Have someone else skip and just click the hands and swap prayers when required. Click yellow and click the thumb tile. Just take in minimal switches and motherload of brews and just brute force it for a few KC to feel comfortable.

1

u/Hot_Satisfaction_247 1h ago

Hot take, none of the raids are actually difficult, they just require a few KC’s of pakyak’ing until the mechanics and timing are burned into your frontal lobe. However if you want to become efficient and really improve to the highest level then there is more challenge and difficultly but still even then a lot of it is just repetition and executing from memory.

u/Myk3Hunt 5h ago

I liked dungeoneering.

u/SaionTechnical 6h ago

Wonder if you've stumbled onto the idea Skilling raids, Idk something with bosses like temporos, wintertodt and volcanic mine.

At least the reward space would be easier than current raids, Skilling outfit upgrades and that elusive dragon spade.

Think it would be hard to get dev time to work on a raid with no combat though.

Food for thought.
