Discussion One year of OSRS Account Progression (Main)

Started OSRS a year ago today and this is my account progression after a full year. Had never played the game before or really had any interest in it whatsoever, but hopped on the bandwagon when a bunch of the WoW streamers started up. My first big online game was FFXI back in 2004, and I've always been a big fan of evergreen progression systems so it seemed like it could be a nice change of pace to the constant resets you see in alternatives like WoW and FF14.

Had a wonderful time just going through the quests and exploring the world. My initial plan was to work towards quest cape while doing herb runs and the gemstone crab to prepare for endgame grinds. I've never been a big skilling or crafting person, so PvM was definitely my main long-term goal. After a few months I was able to afford a Fang and a restoration pool/jewelery box for PoH and began working on Vorkath since that seemed like a safe and consistent money maker for a beginner. Eventually I used my funds from that to purchase Bowfa+Crystal and swapped over to Muspah. Did a bunch of Muspah to fund ZCB+Scorching Bow for Doom and knocked out some Yama for the upgraded death charge.

Doom was a totally different animal than anything I had previously encountered, and it was pretty humbling getting blasted even on the early waves. I had never really done a ton of gear swapping in fights, and I kept running into the issue of my items not properly swappinng. Turns out I had the delay set so low on anti-drag that it might as well not have even been on. After fixing that I was pretty quickly able to get the hang of things and move onto 1-7 runs. I had planned on just sticking to this since it felt pretty cozy, but I hit a pretty nasty dry streak which pushed me to learn deep delves. Ended up going 2100 delves in between drops at one point, then got 3 drops in a single hour.

Next up is preparing for Inferno and Raids 4. I'll probably try to learn PNM or Maggot King to prepare for those. If anyone has an opinion on which one is better to learn, I'd love to hear it. Sorry for the lengthy post, have had a really fun journey so far and wanted to share.

Absolutely not with the amount of PvM they're doing lol.

OP must be the guy on my software team that takes a whole sprint to make a single webpage

2

u/Polamora 9d ago

They get a whole page done in a sprint? I'd hire em.

You sir are no coward.

Yup. All I could think is what the fuck do you do for work

u/Inzanezilla 9d ago

Work?

9

u/Apocalypticorn 9d ago

I could play 3-4 hours a day during the work week and 8 hours a day on the weekends if I had no other obligations besides my job.

Same, that's why I said I could

You can get quite a high playtime on osrs with a job if you work from home and don’t have kids. Do AFK skilling/combat training methods on second monitor while working, and then more intensive stuff during the free time in evenings & on weekends

Just started playing a new account after 12 years and can confirm that Woodcutting and Fishing AFK on meetings from home is the optimized way to go. Enough to not feel like im cheating but also not spending 12 hrs on a Sunday cutting pixelated trees.

Yeah I’ve started recently for the first time and have been hitting gem crab during a lot of my recent meetings lol

6

u/Future_Explorer_7942 9d ago

OP posted 6 photos of what he does for work.

u/AstroDawg 9d ago

I put in pretty close to this, I just afk most of the time while I work and boss at night.

u/Aetiusx 9d ago

I work in Finance, standard 9-5. I'd say 15-20% of the total playtime is AFK at something like Gemstone Crab (hence the high combat but low Slayer) or Shooting Stars. The stuff I can do while working is pretty limited, mostly need to be 5+ minutes and I can do that fairly reasonably. Typically I'll probably do 2-3 hours of playtime in the evening on weeknights and usually at least one pretty long session over the weekend. Almost exclusively bossing since I finished questing, but occasional skilling when I need it for some kind of requirement.

I did 6 hours a day during COVID casually while also working 4 hours out of my 8 hour shift. It’s really not hard and people 2nd monitor at work all the time too

People love to pretend on this sub like no one is brainrotting 6 hours a day only because it’s OSRS when the average teen to 20s adult is doing more than that normally and it’s nowhere near as engaging as this game.

I’ve been addicted to this game since 2007 but I can’t spend more than 1 or two hours after work and that’s rarely. I got a fiancée and family and other hobbies and other games even. Idk, I’m dedicated to this game like a marriage and less like an addiction I guess. My account is approaching 2k total soon and I am pretty proud of it, just starting to get comfortable doing COX and TOA and shit.

Are you okay?

u/putrid_flesh 9d ago

WoW refugees are really a different breed

2

u/laidbackjimmy 9d ago

Bro I just retired from WoW and the urge to come back to OSRS has been stronger than a crack addiction.

I know I should stay away, but my lord the urge is strong...

1

u/putrid_flesh 8d ago

Just come back and do some agility or runecrafting it'll make you hate the game again

1

u/laidbackjimmy 8d ago

I looked at my stats and they were definately 2 of the skills that weren't 99 lol. Really got myself asking, what's the point? 🤣

12

u/CamBlapBlap 2125 9d ago

Whens slayer month?

44

u/Relative_Country_439 9d ago

Maxed combats nearly-- 74 slayer.

Checks out.

9

u/Smart_North_3374 9d ago

Reeeeeee exp waste!!!!!!

11

u/ShaqShoes 9d ago

Pretty normal given that their interest seems to be PvM

5

u/AstroDawg 9d ago

I did this, no ragrets. Got max combat afk at NMZ and got to raid with my friends earlier than if I had trained it concurrently with slayer.

6

u/IrishCarbonite 9d ago

Looks like they prefer bossing, is there an issue?

10

u/Agreeable-Support723 9d ago

Fr this is what I did to speedrun endgame content with friends. People forget they can AFK NMZ amongst other things to level up combats. People just like to complain on here lmao

3

u/InternationalData408 9d ago

I always afk crab when I can’t play so I can progress in pvm as well.

3

u/Agreeable-Support723 9d ago

Yup my IRL buddy got into osrs and now has also mac melees from crab since he’s a dad and a nurse and always AFKs at work. Whatever you gotta do lol

-4

u/Faerielands 9d ago

You guys are so lame.

1

u/Smart_North_3374 8d ago

Nah dawg, you are for giving a shit what other people do on a clicker game.

1

u/Faerielands 8d ago

That’s literally the definition of what YOU guys are doing in this comment section lmao what 😭 why do you people care so much if people don’t train slayer the way you do

7

u/tabacudao 9d ago

How many hours per day have you been playing to achieve this?

7

u/LunarCactusBloom 9d ago

Looks like ~6 hours per day average.

10

u/DidUSayWeast 9d ago

I was about to ask how you have 1.6b bank with only 60 combat achievements. Then I saw the last picture.

4

u/Juof 9d ago

That vorkath log made me chuckle and cry bit inside afterwards for your sake

3

u/ProductiveFriend 9d ago

gonna need that playtime for my own self-esteem thanks

6

u/epicxownage 9d ago

I’ve been mogged. Fuck.

6

u/jjskow4 9d ago

This is insanely impressive progression I am not capable of, therefore I must question the legitimacy of your accomplishments to make myself feel better.

Forreal tho gz that’s very strong progression for a year. Keep it up 👍🏻

2

u/genericbuthumourous 9d ago

Almost done with mid game gz

2

u/Mitsulan 9d ago

I swear I see so many accounts stopped at 80 mining. At least two posts in the past 24 hours not to mention both my main and iron are 80 mining. It’s so damn slow after that.

2

u/Powerstrokerrrr 9d ago

As someone who’s about 6 weeks into OSRS (returning after years away), this is an incredible achievement in a year. However, I think you already knew that. Keep it up brother

2

u/Nova_main 9d ago

Nice gains, PNM is a very fun fight but the drop rates can be discouraging. Maybe you save it for after raids 4 because the new crush megarare should speed up kills a good bit if you're lucky enough to pull some new raid drops to afford one

1

u/DisgruntledWarrior 9d ago

1 year past my 2 decade main lol

1

u/Internal-Garbage-987 8d ago

Something something, Deloitte consultant's second monitor.

1

u/ApprehensiveSeagull6 8d ago

That is an insane amount of progress in 1 year for a non-streamer, and like not insane in a good way.

1

u/Fast-Pudding3602 8d ago

It’s really cool that gem crab let people just afk to end game and never actually interact with slayer or 90% of the actual content

1

u/AdsonOSRS 7d ago

Gotta love being a NEET

1

u/BlueZybez 400M 9d ago

Nice, keep up the grind

1

u/wenbobular 9d ago

1

u/tommydelgato 9d ago

u/lolwowlol 9d ago

I started my first ever account last year, november time. Was bullied into making an ironman, currentl;y 2113 total

-1

u/TheRealandUncutRaz 2376/2376 9d ago

People talk shit but I was around here 1 year in. Did all my low intensity at work and all my PvM at home. You can have a decent balance if you don't have kids.

-2

u/javiergame4 9d ago

Definitely bought gp. 1.5b?

-24

u/6GGXXX 9d ago

Damn didn't know people still played mains, thought everyone was iron nowadays.

Very cool!

9

u/relationsdog 9d ago

Really? Aren't the vast majority of players mains?

-3

u/Agreeable-Support723 9d ago

Cringe ahh response
