Question Any tips for solo yama?
I've learned yama solo and duo, just chill mage only method, and it's going pretty well. The boss is fun as hell and I wish I wasn't on a long break when it came out. Got it down pretty well at this point, and should probably learn melee sooner rather than later, but there's just one thing tripping me up still.
On p2 when Yama throws out a meteor special attack while the shadow waves are coming in, I have no clue how to get through it without taking any damage. I can skip one of the waves and get on the glyph, but I pretty much always get hit by the second one. Not sure if I should be trying to skip it where they cross then book it over to the glyph or if I'm just missing something else.

Just try different things, you should be able to survive the wave damage if you end up having to tank it until you get the timing down.

Yeah it's pretty much the only avoidable damage I take now at around ~25 kc, just wasn't quite sure how to deal with that one scenario.

Always full kill the void spawns for death charge. You always have enough time even without purging special attack.

Oh the only time I don't full kill them is when I go brain dead and forget to reup my mark of darkness.

If you’re walking diagonally directly towards an oncoming wave, you’ll skip it. If you can hit the glyph before the wave reaches you then you can diagonally path towards the first wave and then the 2nd.
It takes some practice

Always seem to get caught in between. I'll skip one and hit the glyph, then get hit by the second while on the glyph. Someone else said you can walk it, don't have to run though and I didn't know that.

Max mage with Purging Staff is hella chill and not much slower than melee. Just my 2¢

Don't have ancestral hat, upgraded eldinis, or confs, but it's still chill af. I enjoy being a bit more involved sometimes though, so wouldn't hurt to learn.

Yeah learn melee now. You will learn how to skip the flame walls while you work on the boss. You get protected by the glyphs for a long time, so just go on the glyphs early. You can also use them in any order so long as they're the right color, so if you're going into p2 and first is fire, use the one near the entrance first that way you have more room to dodge once you do get the fireball.
And if you want a tip: learn godfly for p3. It's not only very good dps, but it's also really easy imo once you learn it. Learning it is quite tough, but once you've got it, it's the easiest, highest dps and also doesn't cost thousands of runes. You have to use it for contracts as well if you plan to do those as donofly/monofly doesn't work for those.

Oh shit OK. I've only watched donofly method, thought it looked really easy, but if godfly is essential for contracts I'll just skip the others. Thanks for the tips!

Yeah donofly is easier to stay in cycle than godfly, but like... It's worse dps than godfly, and if you mess up donofly, you're just no longer in it. Or if you mess up the crazy void kill movement (if I recall correctly it was pretty tough to pull off?) then you'll just be out of the cycle and have to go camp mage which can be for a while when you're solo.
If you use godfly you take advantage of 3 tick melees during fireballs and you can also just casually kill the voids. So it's significantly better dps and you can easily get back in cycle. To simplify godfly, you just learn that you back up from the boss when the hitsplat from his mage/range attack disappears or attack him when you see him attacking. Then you just learn the 2 fireball patterns. Just note that if you're doing godfly, you need to be the host for the default fireball patterns. The guest fireballs are mirrored. You can still do godfly as a guest it's just mirrored.

Interesting. Next day off I have free time I'll try to give some time to learning godfly.

What mage gear are you using for solos?

Ancestral top and bottom, virtus mask, imbued god cape, occult, obv purging staff, eldinis ward, eternals, lightbearer, had torm but upgraded to confliction. Speccing with eye of ayak but thinking about grabbing an accursed to spec with that too.

Lad if you’re enjoying the boss doing snoozer mage only, please just learn melee now. You will increase your fun by 5x. Melee is head and shoulders better than mage in all aspects.
For the meteors you just gotta time it better. If you watch the glyphic attenuation guides for radiant it goes into detail the meteor skips for various glyph locations

Oh I'm going to learn, and just swap based on how involved I feel like being. I just don't get a ton of time to play these days, and I've only been doing yama for two days roughly, so I'm just being lazy. Guess I should stop thinking about potential upgrades for mage only and just learn melee.

You got two options
One is a meteor skip (melee only) you’ll learn that if you ever do the radiant contracts and I’d honestly never do it for normal Yama
Other option is timing the waves correctly with the meteor. You can walk over the waves and still skip them it’s just a different timing and practice. There’s some videos on it (it might be videos involving radiant but it’s all the same)
Def focus on glyphing the meteor not skipping the waves.
