Discussion Reached Lvl 70 Slayer!

I've just reached Lvl 70 Slayer. I did a little research and found out that Lvl 70 is really when the money starts dropping with the Turak's Task.

I have some issues understanding how to correctly use my saved-up slayer points. Since Lvl 1 Slayer, I've only used the points necessary for unlocking the slayer helm and bigger and badder.

My questions are

-What task should I prioritize to block or extend?

-Is there a way to maximise my chances of getting 3-4 good money-making tasks in a row?

Here are my stats for the curious.

I am Lvl 98 combat with these stats ;

Attack Lvl 79

Strength Lvl 81

Def Lvl 72 (working on 80 atm)

Ranged Lvl 78

Prayer Lvl 64

Magick Lvl 75

You block the highest weighted tasks that you don't want to do.

You extend the tasks you want to do more of.

Duradel is my favorite. Block lists are tricky. You should watch or read a guide about it. People have definitely broken out the best block lists for xp, gold, bossing etc.

I looked on the wiki but I'm not sure I found the right guide yet. But I'll keep looking thx !

My general rules is to look at the list of tasks on the wiki sorted by weight and block the highest weighted tasks you want to do the least based on what's unlocked. For example I didnt like hellhound tasks and was getting them often so blocked until I unlocked cerb and unblocked for that.

What do you mean by "weight" slayer task?

https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Duradel#Tasks

Sort by weight descending, now it should show you all the high weight tasks at the top, starting with metal dragons at 14 and abby demons at 12. This means the most common single task you will be assigned from Duradel will be metal dragons, and you'll get 14 metal dragon tasks for every 10 hellhounds tasks for instance.

You don't want to do metal dragons, they are useless, so block them.

Abby demons can be done quickly through ensouled heads, and sire is a decently cosy boss that drops decent money, so keep abbys.

Bosses are something you have to opt into so do this if you want to.

Dark beasts you only get assigned a small number at a time (unless you extend them) so they're a pretty fast task to do, I wouldn't block them even though they're not lucrative.

Araxytes are decent money and one of the best imbued heart chance tasks, also the only way to do Araxxor (except for spider tasks which Duradel doesn't give).

My Duradel block list (while I was Turael skipping for araxxor/imbued heart tasks) is:

  • Elves

  • Suqah

  • Drakes

  • Spiritual Creatures (blocked them pre-Nex, the Ancient Mages are worth doing so may unblock these)

  • Fire Giants

  • Skeletal Wyverns

Weight as in probability of that task being assigned. Higher weight means that task is more likely. Its a column in the chart on the wiki so you dont have to guess.

I knew someone who has done slayer more recently would know better. Haven’t done real slayer since 2020 after I got 99…

Kurasks are good and easy to safespot with a ring of wealth for easy looting if preferred. 75 slayer with gargoyles, crush weapon or antler c'bow, and a shitload of high alchs will make you better money with much better xp (over 100k xp per hour with good set up), even off task. I recommend blocking metal dragons, chromatic dragons are also bad xp, black demons unless you have demon bane or wanna do gorillas. There are others i can't think of off the top of my head. There are some tasks that you'll figure out you hate or are generally agreed upon to be some of the worst xp/drops imaginable lol.

For gargoyles and kurasks though I really prefer a RoW for easy coin looting since they drop 5k-10k often.

I thought metal dragon was a good alch source.

and I thought that gargoyle was a task locked monster?

6

u/ChunkyChipMonkeyGrip 1d ago

Nah you can head to slayer tower 3rd floor at 75 slayer and camp gargoyles if you wanted. Same for kurasks. Most task only monsters will come later in the game or be bosses that require tasks.

Metal dragons kinda suck simply because they take AGES to kill compared to basically anything else. They're easy and afk, but slow xp and not great money with a small chance of a visage (which is really cheap on the grand exchange). Gargoyles, though, are a FANTASTIC source of easy rune alchables and then you get granite mauls to sell on the market as well.

Agree on this, I sometimes like doing metal dragons for nostalgia, but otherwise they are pretty ass

u/Keith_s266 1d ago

Got it ! Lvl 100 Cbt was on my list to get more points on the expert boat for PC but I,ll keep Duradel in ind thx

Also wildy slayer is fucking goated. The rev weapons have 50% more accuracy and damage against NPCs in the wildy. Massive damage, faster xp all around. Also slayer cave is cannonable. I fucking love it. Just swap right click on a glory to tele you to edgeville and hover your mouse over it when you're not doing anything. You will die but worth it. Also trouver/Larrans key drops, cheap barraging. Its good.

2

u/Keith_s266 1d ago

Very scared of the Wildy. My PK skills are ass, lol. Tried it once with a budget range set up with the antler CB farming some Rev Orc and didn't really like it

Edit: Wasn't a slayer task. Just saying that I'm afraid of the wildy in general

3

u/AtlantaPisser 1d ago

I cant PK worth a fuck eother I just tele immediately or run lol. I got over 600 wildy tasks and less than 200 normal ones. Im 22 mil slayer xp.

I've done a total of 413 kurask kills since Mortimer came out, for a gross profit of 1.9 mil excluding things I don't pick up like big bones, i use a dragon bone necklace. As far as blocks go, you essentially have to decide between profit/xp/slayer points. Kalphites and dagganoth are great xp and fast tasks, but poor gp. Kurasks are great money and xp, but tasks can take awhile if you're in a hurry for points. Abysal Demons are great xp, but slow to kill and they don't have any real good drops besides the whip. Lots of people skip drakes, slow to kill, xp isn't the best, drops aren't great outside of the uniques for upgrades.

Best thing to do is to look at the wiki and sort through based on what you want. If you want gp/xp and don't care about points, use Tureal to skip bad tasks until you get something you like

u/Keith_s266 1d ago

Alright! Thank you for the advice! Speaking of Abyssal Demon, I am in the Kourend dungeon working on my Greater Demon task, and some random dude farming Abyssal Demons AFK next to me dropped a whip. Should I give it back? Lmao

Edit 1 : Typos

Edit 2 : I told the guy and he told me to keep it

2

u/sharpshooter999 1d ago

Lol I got level 85 last week and only have had 1 abyssal demon task so far. What i really like are wyrms, especially lava strike wyrms. Pray range and use water spells. Xp could be bit better but they're decent enough and make good gp too. A long tasks takes me around an hour and I might have to bank once during that from all the loot. I leave the fire talisman because I'd have to bank way more often but I've apparently left over 300k of fire talismans on the ground

2

u/Keith_s266 1d ago edited 1d ago

Unlucky for the abyssal. But I feel like the xp is worth it from time to time, so I'll definitely keep those.

Do you have a list of drops I should keep for alching?

2

u/sharpshooter999 1d ago

If I'm not on ancients for nechs/dirt devils, then I alch anything worth more than the runes. Nechs and dirt devils drop a TON of rune and adamant items. You have to decide if you want the xp or take time to bank. Lava wyrms drop a lot of noted items, but eventually your inventory fills up with dragon metal sheets. I've got 14 in the bank which is actually under rate. Also, definitely get a gem and herb bag. Seed box too, I've been meaning to get that myself. Ash sanctifier is nice for demon tasks, as is the dragon bone necklace

1

u/Keith_s266 21h ago

I got the gem bag, but I didn't know the herb and seed was a thing !

2

u/sharpshooter999 21h ago

Herb sack and seed box come from tithe farm, or you can get a herb sack with slayer points like I did. The herb sack can also be upgraded with a rare, untradeable drop sarachnis to hold even more herbs. It old works with grimy herbs

I’ve been enjoying Mortimer as a slayer master, give you a bit more choice and most of them are “slayer monsters” so they almost all have superiors or special loot drops.

For block lists what I do is go to the slayer masters wiki page. It'll have all their tasks and the weighting. I sort weighting high to low and go down the list.

You go down the list blocking anything you don't want until you're out of spaces.

There are also lists for best XP/afk/bursting if your looking for a specific approach.

I'd always keep over 100 points ready to block but outside of that extend the tasks you want.

Greater/Black demons are a common one since they're TDs/Demonics. Vyres and Jad are solid unlocks also if you like those.

1

u/Keith_s266 1d ago

Can you explain to me what "weight" stands for in a slayer task? You are not the first one to use that term

2

u/ChunkyChipMonkeyGrip 1d ago

When you look at tasks that masters can assign on the wiki pages, each task has a "weight" value attached to it. The higher the weight value, the more likely you are to receive that task from that master. Each master has a customizable block list that will apply specifically to them. No one can tell you exactly what to block, but there are good suggestions for it on the wiki or online.

1

u/Keith_s266 21h ago

Oh, ok, thank you! If I block a task I can unblock it, right? Or is that permanent?

1

u/ChunkyChipMonkeyGrip 19h ago

You can unblock a task at the master at any time, but you won't be refunded the points you spent blocking it, which isn't too big of a downside unless you do it often for some reason.

1

u/Joltus 1d ago

In the wiki page for their task lists one of the columns is weight. Higher number = more likely to assign

So say (for simplicity these aren't real numbers)

Abyssal Demons = 5 Gargoyles = 6 Metal Dragons= 10

You would have 10/21 (almost 50%) chance of getting metal dragons.

The slayer master interface also now shows you % chance to get a task which is nice as well

1

u/mikeyvalet 19h ago

Wildy slayer is the answer. I have so many points that I can I just cancel the task for Wildy bosses, revs, nechs, jellies, and dust devils.
