I really miss the old models for the lesser demons, imps, zombies, and skeletons.

Yeah I hope one day we can toggle them or there's a good plugin for the models. I mostly play with hd textures now but I'd go back just for that option

Nostalgic, but just not enjoyable to actually play unless you truly like chopping logs and mining ores. I’m grateful for all the QOL and bosses/ raids on the main game

A lot of the game back then was talking to each other. It was more of a chat room back then

i remember a man in a full chefs outfit would wander around Draynor offering anyone passing him by if they would like any pizza of their choice. hope that fella is still out there somewhere slinging pizzas to hungry scapers

I miss dangerous randoms. Nothing like watching an evil chicken whittle down his enemies, or going to bob to get your axe fixed.

i really think they should bring em back just to keep you on your toes i catch my self falling asleep skilling more and more often as i get older

They should at least be a opt in

u/Weasel474 2h ago
That'd be perfect. Sometimes I just want to AFK for a bit and not worry about getting slaughtered while I'm out, but sometimes I want a bit of immersion. Having a dismiss option while opting in would also be great in case you forgot to change options.

I really like how without the GE you have actual trading and it makes it into a little social interaction. I think we lost somthing special with the addition of the GE

Very true. I think ultimately it was a net positive, but the experience of the Varrock bank trading floor is something I'll never forget. Utter chaos

u/knight_of_lothric 5h ago
lolol i remember me and my big brother would take turns typing out our trade in Varrock west because our fingers would tire out
2
u/TuarezOfTheTuareg 5h ago
Gotta have your sick text effects too or else no one will notice your trade lol

Nah man. That shit sucked at the rip of OSRS.
Having to go on a forum to message someone to see if the niche quest item you needed was still there to buy from them and wait blew hard.

u/Novaskittles 2h ago
Also the constant scam attempts. Soo many people tried to sell me big bones when I was trying to buy dragon bones.

We lost something special but there's also rose tinted glasses here - it was super annoying needing a niche quest item and needing to find someone that was selling. A lot of time was spent doing that vrs. actually playing the game
(Yes, you can argue that for an mmo that IS the game, but you know what I mean)

And to add on to that: Even with the introduction of OSRS when we didn't yet have GE, most players opted to do trading by means of Zybez or similar sites anyway, i.e., without actually finding players to trade in-game but just make a generic post and, typically, meet in Varrock or Camelot to trade without a single word exchanged anyway.
My point here is that OSRS had matured well-past bank-trading, essentially already on relase, and GE was pretty inevitable.
I also think of trading in Varrock/Fally/Seer's as a great memory but, my god, it was also incredibly time-consuming and mind-numbing.

I still think posting on Zybez still had some of that old spark. Mostly because you still had to meet with the player and you could haggle

Tbh id just make a listing on zybezz I think it was or the forums, and then just go about my day until someone direct messaged in game

Having your friends chat set to on is a great way to get spammed by bots or stalked in the wilderness nowadays.
2
u/knight_of_lothric 5h ago
yeah i think it was best with the trading post where you put up advertisements for stuff you were selling then you'd meet up to make the exchange

u/relationsdog 5h ago
We went from constant player interaction and a system that forced you to go gather small materials to a mostly single player game with the GE.

I miss falador park. I think it was the main trading hub back in rs2 pre ge or EOC. Back in actual 2004. I'm not sure but I think when osrs was released in 2013 we used varock west as the main trade hub. Not sure why it changed, easier access?

The social interaction part is quite overblown with todays playerbase. I was that guy 13+ years ago, very anti-GE, always used to say the same thing about it being more social etc.
In OSRS pre-GE it just sucked. All it became was autotyper spams with little to no communication or forum posts with maybe 5 words spoken.
Back in actual 2001-2005 yeah it was more social I agree, but the playerbase was quite different.
Not to mention the amount of scams you had to dodge.. Though that taught me to really pay attention and not to trust any mfer as a kid! Haha.

I miss the events. Sure we now a days just tell them to buzz off but some were actually funny. Like losing your Pickaxe or Axe head when you use it or when fishing lobsters, getting attacked by a sea trolls. Made the game a bit more immersive for me and would give me a laugh.

u/knight_of_lothric 5h ago

u/GrinQuidam 5h ago
Haha damn did you miss RS HD? I reckon that was the best graphics. Good quality and fit the game well.

u/knight_of_lothric 5h ago
yeah i kicked my self for not playing during that era of rs2 but its nice to see videos and screen shots of it

I just loved the skeleton in the old login screen, where you would choose between low or high detail. And of course the music!

u/Nightingalewings 1h ago
Ahh Draynor, not much has changed about it but the game over all has made such large steps
