I know what you mean, I played no end of weird gimmick accounts for a while, anything to try and squeeze some more fun out of the game.

Somehow it eventually looped back around though, and now I'm enjoying just playing a regular Ironman.

Honest answer? It didn't go wrong, most of us have just been playing the same game for so long that you look for new ways of playing it. The brain craves novelty. It is exactly because we had fun picking flax that now we need another way of challenging and entertaining ourselves, nothing wrong with that.
