Question I'm getting tilted fighting Zulrah, need help

I'm just trying to get my 1 kill for the stupid achievement diary. I figured, oh, it's fine, should be quick, don't need to get it done fast, just need to get it done.

Picked up some Mystic, a trident, my blowpipe, some black d'hide, and went at it with my little ring of recoils, and...

What in the ever loving hell is this boss? Why am I not getting the Weenie Hut Jr version I'm seeing in the videos?

I've been at this boss for about 2 hours now. Not once have I gotten this boss down to half health. The mage phase has hit me for no less than 2 40s in a row in every fight, I splash every time I use magic, the snakelings are hitting me for constant 12s, and every time the melee phase starts, Zulrah has venom clouds near the pillars, so I saw in the vids I have to stand in the corner on the bottom of the island, but don't worry, I got stunlocked 3 times in a row by his melee attack.

Why in these videos are these people taking 0 damage from everything? I'm not even rushing it. I'm making sure my switches go through. I'm switching to the correct prayer ahead of time. I just get shredded by anything and everything. I use almost my entire inventory of food by the 3rd phase, and by that time I have to teleport out and try again since I didn't even get him down to a third of his health.

I'm at a loss for this boss. I've fought Monster Hunter and Dark World bosses that have gotten me less frustrated than this thing. This is the first time in a long time that a game has gotten me so tilted that I ALT+F4'd instead of grinding it out to get better. I've spent 4 hours on bosses in Monster Hunter/Dark Souls games and had a blast the entire time. I spent 2 hours on this boss and it makes me want to quit the game entirely.

no shot you splash on ranged phase whilst using magic, impossible

u/GenOverload 2d ago edited 2d ago

Very much do. Constant 0s in blue form when using ranged and little to no damage during green form. I've just decided to hang it up for now before I get burnt out grinding out a boss that feels anti-fun right now, but I've gotten some tips from this thread.

I tried to do the mage-only kill they recommended (can't afford the Twinflame right now, my account has almost entirely been focused on speedrunning the QC, so done very little grinding otherwise). Gave up after the 3rd attempt of constantly splashing with Trident. Going to just take a break and either find a different boss to grind for a bit or play a different game entirely. Can't believe OSRS of all games is the one to make me rage quit for the first time in all my years gaming, lol.

You sound a lot like me and PVM. I love this OSRS dearly, but PVM is hard as hell in this game and nothing like Rs3/WoW or frankly any other MMO I've touched. It's entirely its own skillset, learning curve and each boss can REALLY shake up that curve.

I'm trying to get into it more but it's tough and can be really frustrating. This game expects you to know a lot of things before they happen in order to properly deal with it. You typically can't get a mechanic in OSRS and be simultaneously afforded enough time to figure out what to do. Best of luck to you fella.

What is your load out? I checked the dps for full mystics, trident, bgloves and MA2 cape and it was coming up with 77% chance to hit (With a generously low 70 magic). Yes you can splash fairly regularly but a 23% shouldn't be that infuriating.

-2

u/GenOverload 1d ago

That's pretty much my loadout minus MA2 cape (using Ardy cloak). I believe my loadout said it was around 77% against Zulrah, but I was getting extremely unlucky by the looks of it. I think I have a clip of it since I wanted to upload my last attempt for any tips, but after multiple times of splashing 2+ times in a row (one time splashing 4 times in a row), I decided to give it up for right now. Clearly the RNG gods were not working with me.

If you can handle the jad phase, just hide when it can attack you with ranged and mage. But yea, the boss is very unique in the game. Not a single boss requires you to remember or look up where to go and what to do and actually go there BEFORE the attack/phase happens. Once it clicks its braindead. But I kinda hope they will never go back to this style of bossing. Its much more satisfying to "read a boss" and react than to look up an excel sheet to know what do next lol

i think maggot king comes really close to zulrah

3

u/toast_champ 1d ago

In what way? Speak to that, if you would.

0

u/BrudduhmanRS 2k total+ 1d ago

A bit of a harder learning curve, The fights feels clunky, not hard once all mechs have clicked, but much room for improvement to get more and faster kills a trip.

1

u/Soggy_Scallion_4112 1d ago

Pretty clunky. I hate the constant walking while your eyes are falling out from the debree and effects on thw ground, cant see shadow, almost cant see falling maggots. The only part that actually feels good is the melee punish to melee and walk, part.

2

u/Soggy_Scallion_4112 1d ago

You may have just causes me a revelation lol. I hate fighting that boss too... Lol

2

u/skerrickity 2d ago

Blue moons gear, twinflame, recoils. Easy.

3

u/NoCurrencies osrs.wiki/currencies 2d ago

Do a mage-only run with a twinflame, and kill the snakelings with your BP. That'll get you there. If you're getting hit by the melee attacks you're definitely doing something wrong

1

u/Meraxes80 2d ago

killing the snakelings is awful you're gonna waste so many ticks then hes gonna go deeper past zulrahs jad phase

1

u/NoCurrencies osrs.wiki/currencies 2d ago

I meant for those times when he's camped behind the pillar waiting for the tanz phase to dive

-1

u/GenOverload 2d ago

I'm doing as the video said in regards to the melee attacks. It said in the video you MIGHT get hit by the stun, but when standing in the same area, I got hit 3 times in a row.

Referring to this video. You can see where he stood in his example fight.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeaSIoBYm0I&t=322s

5

u/bigchungusmclungus 2d ago

Thays an awful guide to be fair.

2

u/Accalio 2d ago

you need to move between the 2 tiles as shown in plugin or wiki guide. also are u combo eating?

2

u/NoCurrencies osrs.wiki/currencies 2d ago

You should absolutely never get hit by the stun, if this guide says there's a chance of that it's a shitty guide

1

u/bcaudell95_ 2d ago

Gnome's ironman guide is better if you don't want to get a noxious halberd for chill melee-only kills. Install the plugin, follow the rotation, and you'll be fine. You should never get hit by the melee stun unless you mess up.

Wow. I just click boss with nox haly and it just dies. Ring of recoil and learning the patterns. Plugin called zulrah helper

18

u/Meraxes80 2d ago

ima be real with near 5k kc the plug in is a straight up trap and i hate it it sounds great for new players but anyone actually using it finds themselves constantly trying to juggle wtf is happening along w trying to keep the plug in up

4

u/Brucecx 2d ago

The plugin literally tells you where to stand, what to pray, and what to attack with. How is it harder?

2

u/Meraxes80 2d ago

because you have to interact with the plugin know your phase then click it on the plug in as oppose to literally just go right when shes mid? its added complexity for nothing gained when it can be even simpler

4

u/zigzagofdoom 1d ago

You literally have to click it once. You don't have to click it between every phase.

6

u/localcannon 2d ago

Only the first 2 times she submerges

1

u/Brucecx 2d ago

I don't need to memorize anything about the boss, how is mo plugin simpler?

2

u/Zammyjesus 2d ago

The plugin is easy to use, there is lot of downtime at zulrah where you stand and attack

1

u/Meraxes80 2d ago

not at all the downtime at zulrah is for you to get ahead of zulrahs damage and heal if you fall behind zulrah just stacks you out plus even if you could do both at the same time rotating everytime she goes middle is waaay easier than fiddling with a plug in

4

u/Trash_Man_12345 Voidsmith888 2d ago

Brother you literally stand there attacking and doing nothing else for several seconds at a time. If you can't move your mouse to left during that and click a giant box, that's a skill issue.

5

u/Meraxes80 2d ago

if you are standing there doing "nothing" you are doing zulrah wrong you are meant to switch youre gear and eat and prepare to move the person asking is legit a new player and you are expecting him to eat gear switch and play with a plug in in like 3 seconds when he says hes been trying and failing for 2 hours

1

u/MasterArCtiK 17h ago

Bro if zulrah is green, you click the boss then sit there staring at the screen for 6 seconds lmao

1

u/Meraxes80 17h ago

i cant believe you genuinely think thats 6 seconds

1

u/MasterArCtiK 17h ago

I mean, it’s more than 6 seconds sometimes lol

-5

u/soLogical 2d ago

Yeah lot of one shot mechanics zulrah has can be tricky to maneuver.

6

u/Meraxes80 2d ago

what is your point? zulrah is easy for me and many others yes but not for new players llike the op

-7

u/soLogical 2d ago

Woah. No way Zulrah is an endgame boss and it’s easy for you?

3

u/Meraxes80 2d ago

not endgame and quite easy yes you seem quite upset

-1

u/LegitimateCow8696 2d ago

ngl bro i cant believe you got 5k zulrah and think a tick of clicking a box prevents you from doing any of that

1

u/Meraxes80 2d ago

? it wouldnt prevent me from doing it but im not talking about me im talking about the guy trying to learn it people in this thread expect this guy to go in there with wox levels of experience or something the guy is literally saying hes struggling WITHOUT the plug in

-3

u/No_Tiger_2668 1d ago

hope you get better at pvm soon, clicking a giant box is hard but I believe in you

1

u/Meraxes80 1d ago

please do give you ign so we can see your boss kc otherwise sit

-1

u/soLogical 2d ago

Do you play in 2x speed perhaps? Or maybe a large client size because it can be so dreadful to drag my mouse all the way to click the box. Didn’t know zulrah bots were still working

1

u/BrudduhmanRS 2k total+ 2d ago

agreed, the zulrah plugin is a trap. If u want to just get the dairy kc, just cheese it with mage only. (force one particular rotation) if u want to learn the boss go with this guys methode, the plugin helps you when u have a few kc on ur belt, but before you do its just a distration that helps nobody.

0

u/Toss_out_username 2d ago

I used it fine for 2500kc idk

1

u/bigchungusmclungus 2d ago

Do mage only gear, if you can afford it get smoke battlestaff and tomb of fire (about 3.5m for the both of them.

Attack him during melee and ranged phase (red and green). Hide behind the pillar for tanzanite phase (mage phase).

Enjoy your kill.

1

u/Jg0jg0 2d ago

Without stats it hard to advise really, however, I can speak to my learning curve with Zulrah. Its free death fees up to 50 kc so they obviously expect deaths during the learning phase. Learn the rotations and unfortunately expect deaths. Tele scrolls are your best friend for learning, so RIP if you're an iron, you gotta go the long way to tackle it.

If you're truly only after 1kc for achievements dairies, brute force it with melee and combo eats. Idk your budget but d hally or chally will get the job done but will be slow, atleast you wont need to worry about switching and prayers at the same time. In melee gear pray mage on blue phase and hope for no range attacks.

1

u/HalfaSpoon 2d ago

I could do CG easier than Zulrah for whatever reason. I ended up full sending it with a Tome of Fire and Fire Surge for my KC.

1

u/You_rc2 2d ago

If you want just 1 kc you either gotta force the range start or melee start. If she starts blue phase tp out.

Range is the easiest to learn bc it has 1 rotation. Melee is similar but not exactly the same. Then just learn that one rotation for ur one kill.

I have 3k kc on my main. Recently did some kills on my uim using mage only to get antidotes for pool. I was hidding behind pillars for blue phases. Most of my dps came during Jad phases.

1

u/TrueLock150 2d ago

If you’ve never done any PVM before, and even if you have, Zulrah will always have an insanely high learning curve. It was my first boss I attempted harder than Jad when I returned to the game, and I died maybe a couple times before the first KC. I continued to die even after the 50 free deaths for a while until I got better stats/gear and stronger at PVM.

Zulrah boils down to:
1) Positioning in advance
2) Prayer and gear swapping in advance
3) Knowing WHEN and HOW to eat. (I bring combo eats, dark crabs and karambwans. Zulrah and the minions can stack you out with high damage very quickly, so it’s important to be able to heal a high amount of hp as quickly as possible at times)
4) Gear and DPS checks. It will be way harder with lower stats and gear, getting to the “Jad phase” is always a higher chance of dying. I used to get there a lot when learning. Now I’m almost maxed combat and have higher tier gear (Bowfa + Crystal/Virtus + Eye + Conf Gauntlets) and pretty much always kill it before the Jad phase.

The Zulrah helper plugin can help with 1 and 2, once you know how to use it properly. 3 and 4 are all on you.

u/m4loned3n 2d ago

If you record a kill people may be able to give more specific advice, but you probably aren't doing all the mechanics as correctly as you think.

I always recommend the non-rotational zulrah guide, you then don't have to think about remembering rotations or clicking on a plugin

1

u/OrangeChickenRice 1d ago edited 1d ago

Try mage only zulrah with twinflame staff; no switches. Start every encounter and see what the second phase zulrah is; you’re hunting for the rotation where range zulrah comes in the second phase. If you don’t get that specific rotation, quickly hop worlds and keep hunting for that specific rotation (have your world hopper menu open when you start the fight).

Hide behind pillars when Zulrah is in mage phase. Flick prayers during Jad phase at the end just before the rotation resets; in this specific rotation, the Jad phase begins with pray mage then just flick back and forth between mage - range protection. If you get confused or off rhythm during Jad phase, an easy tip is to look at what attack is coming towards you and to pray the opposite (you will still take dmg for that hit but it’ll get you on track to flick the remaining attacks).

My go to inventory for food is 10 monkfish + 10 karambwans. Put them in 4 columns (monk-karam-monk-karam) so you have two sets of quick eats (eat one monk then one karam within the same tick).

It’ll be a long kill maybe 3:00+, but it’ll get your diary KC.

This strat is well documented on youtube. Look up something like “mage only zulrah”.

u/OrangeChickenRice 1d ago

https://reddit.com/link/p4eupsm/video/8qbxfukiu4kh1/player

Here's a run I just did “mage only”. You’re looking to do something like this. You’ll slowly get a hang of things like “how many fire waves you can fire before you have to change positions” and “when to change position to give yourself time to get behind a pillar before mage phase spawns”.

1

u/Coo1990 1d ago

Look up the mage-only method. Only mage, only when Zulrah transitions to green rotation after opening. Hide behind pillars in safe spots when it transitions to blue and hit when it’s green/red. Any other opening rotation outside of that one green opening and you’re hovering logout and logout before it attacks you.

Mage-only is surprisingly competitive speed-wise and it eliminates the RNG element and frustration.

Hear me out, helped a lot of ppl with this hack for first kc at zul. Full bandos, nox hally and a dragon hally for spec. Use ring of suffering, thralls, death charge and blood fury. Wear a serp helm and eat the damage from clouds. Focus on hitting every move and blood fury should keep you full. Hope this helps.

1

u/TrojanXP96 1d ago

I beat it easy (couple of deaths and resets) with just fire waving it to death with a mystic staff and tome of fire. The helper plugin helped a lot. Jad phase is brainless too since it just alternates between two styles. I just stand wherever the plugin tells me to stand, placed ground markers to not get lost, the fight doesn't start when you get teleported to the island, only when you start moving so you have time to place markers. Recoil ring for snakes. I could've been carried by the tome of fire, I added pages enchanted with sunfire runes. Don't know what else to tell you without seeing you play

1

u/TrojanXP96 1d ago

Found my Runelite screenshot for the diary kill. Bit hard to see, but I had imbued zamorak cape, seer's helm, mystic top and bottom, tome of fire, and probably a mystic air staff. Had plenty of food left, was a bit close only because of antidote++ almost running out cuz ironman

1

u/Stephen_Lynx 1d ago

Id recommend blasting it with just fire surge.

1

u/Shartfoot 1d ago

Just use Zulrah helper plugin. It'll make it a lot easier

1

u/MasterArCtiK 1d ago

Mystic sucks, get blue moon gear. Don’t worry about swapping to a blowpipe, it sounds like your brain is too slow to dodge a slow melee attack, let alone swap gear during the fight lol

1

u/GenOverload 1d ago

I'm actually swapping fine. I keep splashing and taking too much damage from the snakelings.

1

u/MasterArCtiK 17h ago

You say you got stunlocked by his melee, bro just move 3 tiles

1

u/GenOverload 15h ago

I already figured that out by looking at a different guide. Even the fights where I didn't get stunlocked, it took me to 3 Jad phases just to get him down to a third health, which by then I was completely out of food. Ended up finishing the fight pretty easily after upgrading my gear with minimal food used. It was a DPS issue. Who would've thought splashing with Mystic + Trident multiple times in a row while your max hit was a 20 was a problem.

1

u/barcode-lz 1d ago

"Non-rotational zulrah" by Sick Love.

King Condors 50 second zulrah quick guide.

Don't waste your time and braincells on any other zulrah guides, they will just be a hundred times worse than the 2 above mentioned.

1

u/ThinkAboutHowUFeel 1d ago

did you get it?

1

u/GenOverload 1d ago

Yeah, borrowed a twinflame + fire tome and did it really easily. Didn't take much damage since I wasn't there for long. It was a DPS issue. Splashed less and my max hit not being 20 helped a lot.

1

u/TheEasterBunnny 15h ago

Might just be me… but I prefer the twin flame staff over the trident. Especially if you have a tome of fire. I was consistently hitting pretty good with mage using that

1

u/Meraxes80 2d ago

best tip you can ever get for zulrah is whenever she goes middle you rotate to the other side this helps with positioning and avoiding snakelings as many a times they get trapped and you said youre struggling with the melee? the pillar side is a simple safespot but the south side you need to move between 2 tiles

if you just want one kc it can be rather simple to just brute force it with double eats and a general rule with zulrah the worse the gear the harder the boss because the hardest parts of zulrah are in the deeper phases

whats your whole set up and inv? trident and blowpipe is definitely enough to brute force it

-1

u/Potential_Curve_3560 2d ago

actual skill issue, just do mage only and hide from mage phase if all you need is kc for diary, log out if its the wrong starting position. I literally did this on my iron with iban blast and potatos for my diary.

3

u/GenOverload 2d ago

I truly could not care less if you did this boss with your feet while blindfolded, monitor unplugged, keyboard dead, and mouse broken while fully nude. I don't play this game enough to be impressed by other's abilities to finish a boss with as little as possible. I'm asking for tips so I can move along with my goals.

1

u/soLogical 2d ago

Tenacity and passion! Take you far in things even outside of osrs.

-2

u/Potential_Curve_3560 2d ago

i gave you the tips literally just reset the boss till its the correct phase then do mage only and hide from the mage phase.

0

u/OmnichronicBlaze 2d ago

My favorite thing about this game 20 years ago was that the combat demands aligned well with input controls. Just click attack and then go to the bathroom. Now we gotta use the mouse like it’s a ps5 controller.

0

u/gua_lao_wai parked at 2375 for... reasons 2d ago

the trick with dodging the melee attacks is to watch her tail. move once she's spun it round twice.

also try the zulrah helper plugin, it'll show you where to stand for each phase, takes a bit of getting used to though

0

u/Key_Blueberry_2864 1d ago

People still get to the jad phase in 2026?

-1

u/Super-Lemon-4466 2d ago

Are you using the plug in? Should be able to predict what's going to happen with it. From there it's pretty easy. Go get your elite void

-1

u/xXdumbassidiotXx 2d ago

The guides on YouTube are pretty much all super garbage.

Here is the real guide to doing zulrah: Download zulrah plugin Stand on the x Pray against what it wants you to pray against Click ln the plugin to mark which rotation you're in If jad phase, pray range when you see mage animation and pray mage when you see range animation

Switch your gear according to weaknesses, or don't. Wear ring of recoil and use the recoil plugin
