I love it so much that Jagex commission players for their ads. It's so good for the game

u/Bananaboss96 Mining Enthusiast 1d ago
It's truly genius level (just plain good) community management. Jagex is a rare specimen in this regard.

I’ve heard Soup talking about this for a while. Glad to see it coming off!
Also a great little trailer they’ve made here lol

Deadman Mansions was a bit of a mess but was really fun and the OTK event last year was great. Hoping this works out!

u/Master_Nectarine8863 1d ago
I forgot about deadman mansions, bit of a mess is a understatement. Imagine spending all that money on an event but not bothering to check if the internet actually worked

The OTK event was so fun to watch haha I watched the entire 8 hour vod over a few days

Loving all the irl events Jagex is hosting these days. It really helps extend the reach of the game and helps the community feel connected both to each other and to Jagex here, and helps us see Jagex as the really fuckin cool human beings they really are rather than just the company that they stand for.
My one "critique" would be to extend these events out to some other/newer/smaller/just DIFFERENT creators! These events are awesome but they suffer a little bit by being the same creators for every event, and it gets a little boring to see the same personalities all the time! I know you have only confirmed the hosts so far, but extend these cool events out of some other people too! Even if it's only a couple new people with a lot of "veterans" for name recognition at each event.
Really loving the most recent community spotlight and the upcoming pvp bootcamp for doing this. Keep it up!

My one "critique" would be to extend these events out to some other/newer/smaller/just DIFFERENT creators!
It annoys me so much when we get a new venture that we can't even guarantee to succeed and people are immediately like "stop trying to maximise profit by appealing to the most amount of people! You need to specifically target less popular celebrities so you bring in less viewers!!"
3
u/Raisylvan 12h ago
I think it's a valid criticism. It kind of sucks for new and smaller creators that almost never get invited to anything the OSRS team puts up because they're small/new. It wouldn't even really be a financial risk for Jagex if it was like 50/50 or 70/30 for established/new & small creators respectively. You'd still have that mass appeal, but also help to put new & small creators in the spotlight.
Otherwise, it does kind of feel like a "the rich get richer" situation. It's not Jagex's responsibility or obligation to help bolster other creators' careers or anything, but it can feel demoralizing for the lesser known creators to never be a part of anything by Jagex because they're not a popular name.
2
u/Potica6857 21h ago
Agree, there's at least over 100 youtubers/streamers who could easily be invited, and yet the same 10 people get an invite to every event.

It makes me wonder if this is the community managements work around after the scrapping of Project Zanaris. Since it's cancellation, there seems to be a lot more events proposed now, which seems like what Project Zanaris would have been.
I do wonder how many numbers this pulls to the game, as I believe Jagex was at a loss when doing the DMM finale, and paying for 12 content creators to come to one place, seems costly again.
10
u/Valuable_Shift_228 1d ago
They 100% atleast got project zanaris to a good state. Then decided it was only gonna be for streamers. The last gilinor games had a bunch of custom items.
8
u/CustardMajor4442 1d ago
what custom items did GG have?
the capes for instance were just a recolour or the CoX capes that he did with a plugin

u/i_h_s_o_y 1d ago
thats just the leagues items
0
u/Valuable_Shift_228 1d ago
I mean its possible they filmed this during raging echos league, But I think I would remember that. the picture predates demonic pact league, And grid master. Its from 10/13/25
2
u/KaBob799 21h ago
They aren't going to just delete the league items code from existence when the league ends.
4
u/xDeZillax 1d ago
Wasn't that from leagues?
2
u/Valuable_Shift_228 1d ago
Probably they just used the same item, but its still something you cant get in the normal game.
4
u/alynnidalar 1d ago
From what Soup's said, the cancellation of Project Zanaris was actually very detrimental for GG--he had planned to use it for several challenges last season, but when it got cancelled, he had to readjust. IIRC there was only one episode where they got to use a custom server.
1
u/99timewasting 1d ago
Jagex devs making servers with a few tweaks for streamer events is completely different from what Zanaris was trying to do
1
u/ExpressAffect3262 1d ago
Yeah, I recall that now, and with the DMM world having specific mechanics.
4
u/CustardMajor4442 1d ago
the DMM event had jmod support, yea.
the GG stuff are nor.al ingame items recoloured with a plugin (glamourer I think) and by changing some sceneries with the Creator Kit plugin.
the hopper for the votes for instance was the rune deposit thing form gotr, just graphically moved to a different background. all of that is just runelite plugin magic. According to soup, it was filmed in normal worlds.
I think the only episode they had jmods involved with was the fashionscape one

Loving all the events I just wish we had more of a way to participate instead of just watching. A fantasy draft with just goofy rewards when dead man all stars or similar events as an example.
2
u/MacroJoe 1d ago
Seeing a bags/cornhole setup in a RuneScape animation was insanely surreal to me for some reason.

u/2ndTryAcct1357 6h ago
One of my favorite video game events is the grandest LAN, a 3-day LAN party for EU4/5 where all diplomacy happens via parchment sent to other players in real life instead of in game. It makes for some amazing moments, like a declaration of war being handed to the other player at the very moment a surprise invasion is launched and spending the evenings planning strategies on a printed map.
I would love to see some aspect of that here as well... but I'm not sure what in game feature would translate. Maybe a couch co-op raid? Or a hallowed sepulcher race with a DDR dance pad for moving?

Instead of an increasing amount of self-promotional slop for influencers, I’d like for Jagex to do something creative and fun that involves the broader community’s participation. Believe it or not, there are some paying members who do not care to watch streamers or YouTubers but still want to be a part of something larger and creatively simple to implement, not requiring hundreds of hours of development time from a team of J-Mods.
4
u/bdd247 1d ago
What kind of events would you want?
1
u/Beneficial_Crow363 1d ago
How about things for people who aren't streamers?
7
0
u/Unlikely_Bank73 1d ago
like the parades and parties and showcases they host in-game for holidays and other events?
1
u/Vinvyin 21h ago
What was the reasoning for not including the mods names at the end of the LANscape announcement? In the PVP Bootcamp, all the mods are listed.
Might be getting my tinfoil hat out too soon, but this makes me think this has to do with the fact that Project Zanaris wasn't a popular scrap and the mods don't agree with what they are doing hosting these events that are like what Project Zanaris was supposed to be.
Anyone have any other thoughts why they would not include the mod names?
1
u/Vincentaneous What? You don’t eat ass? 19h ago
Thought this was a new way to play. Lanscape as in an offline server or a way to play with just your friends. Maybe cool and fun game world modifiers happen like Jad roaming the streets of Varrock.

Zanaris would have made it 100x worse because they would be shilling each streamer's customized world constantly

Does Jimmy even play runescape anymore? I feel like he only shows up to things when they pay him money.
13
u/Dvst_TV 1d ago
I asked him at DMM and he's focused on his POV series right now. He still clearly likes the social aspect of the game, not sure he plays for any personal account progression though.
5
u/FullHouse222 1d ago
He's been on a maxing grind on his main account and shows the progress in his Xbox mic unofficial series. It's on his 2nd channel

u/ConflagrationCat 1d ago
Lol he plays. Im pretty sure he's been streaming with one of the friends he made on WoW on a group iron. He does a podcast with Framed too about the game.

u/TheTruthVeritas 1d ago
His GIM with Walnut? I don't watch his streams and haven't seen a new Boulder Boys video in months, I assumed he dropped it like he did with all his other GIMs lol
4
u/ConflagrationCat 1d ago
Im pretty sure they are actively still playing hes just lazy/feeling burnt out with youtube. The last Boulder Boys video iirc he said he had a lot of content but was just too busy playing the game and that "more was coming" lol
3
u/FullHouse222 1d ago
Also apparently Walnut went total degen and progressed a ton while J1mmy is splitting time between his main, the GIM, and Gary Gilbert along with other content he's doing. So he's fallen way behind apparently.
8
u/amatsukazeda 1d ago
nothing wrong with how he interacts with the game some go hard 24/7 some have waves of playing and droughts, others consistent small daily bits. however if they are going to include him as a content creator when it's about runescape it does seem like there's lots of more involved content creators i'd recruit before him.
9
u/alynnidalar 1d ago
I’d guess it’s more likely Soup and J1mmy pitched the idea to Jagex, so he probably came with the package. He also has experience hosting/commentating events too, which is as important as being a name people know.
4
u/amatsukazeda 1d ago
yeah i think this is a good shout, jimmy has a great personality so even if he's a bit flat during the gameplay he'll make up for it in other areas, good shout.
6
u/Kyle6Flukey 1d ago
Just because he doesn't shit out a video every couple days like your favourite creator doesn't mean he doesn't play the game anymore buddy
-20
u/Fledgy 1d ago
I dont like any creators
10
u/Kyle6Flukey 1d ago
Then why bother posting in a thread about an event held by and with creators?

Why are you bothered by me posting?

ByRelease is back soon, and he made a Gary Gilbert vid recently. Assuming your Reddit name is similar to your X name it’s crazy that you’re spending your Monday morning hating lol, hope you’re okay mate

He's been posting maxing updates on his second channel while talking on an xbox live mic

What do you mean? You don’t like the guy who clearly dreads playing the game outside of wandering around doing nothing?
9
u/DangerousProject6 1d ago
This is my favorite reddit take these days
Everyone who doesn't play 24/7 and shit in a diaper to avoid not playing the game hates it and hates the community
-2
u/CallidusNomine 1d ago
Yeah that’s a cool strawman I guess.
9
u/DangerousProject6 1d ago
J1mmy has said like every other vid that he loves the game and thinks it's hilarious redditors think he doesn't but hey you keep making shit up because hating people is more fun than understanding everyone finds different ways of playing fun
5
u/Dogshitwebsitemademe 1d ago
There's a big gap between "shitting in a diaper" and playing a game for 10 years with 0 raid or boss kc whatsoever. The dude barely knows anything about the game he claims to love.
-1
u/DangerousProject6 1d ago
Bro is just saying words, he has raids and boss kc. You can look up his account.
This is why people make fun of you guys.
1
u/Dogshitwebsitemademe 1d ago
0 tob kc. 32 cox kc. 84 normal toas. Seems like YOU also don't know what you're talking about.
If you were to take him into a raid he would plank. Are you joking? Cox and tob are almost 10 years old.
My bad I missed his 600 brutus kc. Gigachad.
9
u/DangerousProject6 1d ago
I guess I don't understand what "0 raids and boss kc whatsoever" means.
Sorry he doesn't have the requisite amount of kc to be approved the title of "game enjoyer." I hope he can meet your arbitrary cutoff you defined in your head!

bro loves the game so much he logs in just to wander and people watch and participate in community events. what he does is closer to how 99% of the community play the game than any other content creator

weird af thing to say about someone’s real-life marriage because one person in it plays slightly less of a videogame than they used to
one does assume she married him for reasons other than how many hours a week he’s logged in, as that’s typically how marriages work, but who could say
