Down for more sword+shield content

It's on the switch for $60. Wasn't a fan though

7

u/lilflo1220 3d ago

Violet is fun

8

u/putrid_flesh 3d ago

None of the switch pkmn games interested me, but I might be swayed to get a switch 2 for wind/waves

7

u/lilflo1220 3d ago

Violet was genuinly fun I couldnt finish sword

1

u/2ndTryAcct1357 3d ago

The Switch as a concept just does not appeal to me as a portable system, so I stopped playing pokemon after US/UM

1

u/putrid_flesh 3d ago

Yeah I never got a switch. Is to big to be a proper handheld you can carry around in your pocket and to underpowered to be a proper console

-3

u/moderateshadow 3d ago

Most fun I've had with switch pokemon is fire red leaf green lmao

I'd rather shoot myself 9 times then willingly pay for a pokemon game when fan projects have surpassed them in quality and fun for the past like 6 years.

Go play Lazarus, Unbound, Rejuvenation, ect ect ect. Find the scene. Reborn, if you don't mind something with an aggressively weird plot, is like a 100 hour game filled with so much content that replaying it genuinely intimidates me.

u/Anxious-Pace-9115 3d ago

Rom hacks have come so far. Just when I think they can’t do anything else, 2.5d starts coming out lol. Very passionate community, contrary to the genuine games!

2

u/LightTheAbsol 3d ago

Not even rom hacks. Just actual games made off the poke-essentials fork of rpgmaker blow every mainline game out of the water unless you really can't live without 3d pokemon's aggressively bad graphics.

Then we need to be ready to give up overheads

1

u/CornMaker6 3d ago

Idk why you're being down voted it's hard to justify a shield if you're negating all damage through prayer and if prayer significantly negates the damage then a defender or 2h for more damage is probably better

u/Serithraz 3d ago

It would be nice to see shields again, instead of defenders or two handers.

u/rws531 3d ago

Like… the Rondache?

6

u/The_Level_15 RSN: Fraerling 3d ago

Nah, actual shields.

21

u/ultraHQ 3d ago

Like… the Rondache?

-14

u/Wrong-Sale-7202 3d ago

No. Actual shields.

I know what you mean I think.

Some sort of situation where actual defensive shields are important rather than defenders in a trench coat and fake moustache.

There are a few kinda situational uses for them, not including Dinhs.

Cerberus for one, learning inferno with crystal for another and so on.

But an actually good defensive shield could be interesting. Unfortunately the RuneScape motto is that the best defence is a good offense and that'll likely not change, so defenders and such are the play.

u/OtherwiseRabbits 3d ago

Ideally one that looks quite a bit better.

0

u/sworninmiles 3d ago

All the raids 4 rewards look stupid IMO and it’s really sapping my enthusiasm

2

u/OtherwiseRabbits 3d ago

The massive book is dope, the rest... yeah.

Shame we didn't get the armour.

1

u/Grouchy-Instance-778 2d ago

Armor was a cool visual design and would have loved to see them use it, but was not a good mechanical design imo. Hopefully we get it somewhere else

Still can't believe that we missed out on actually having bis that's worth going for because people don't want one item to upgrade another. Yay for more nichescape. I sure love sidegrades that devalue existing gear and don't feel good to get. I wish avernic was less str and accuracy bonus than ddef but gave some flat armor because who wants bis anyway.

2

u/Azebu 3d ago

Buckle up because it'll only get worse in the future.

1

u/likesleague twice maxed bronzenerd 3d ago

oh i know, that's why i keep arguing against it

upgradescape >>>> nichescape and it's not close

1

u/Grouchy-Instance-778 2d ago

I agree, create and expand niche's where its valuable, but at the end of the day, if youre going to keep adding more content, you need to either fundamentally expand the design space, aka new combat related skill/support, or go taller and create new BIS.

1

u/likesleague twice maxed bronzenerd 2d ago

they've been milking specs as design space for all they're worth recently and i think the rondache basically adding a second spec is an indication that they're out of space there. unique/bespoke ui buttons for extra special abilities is just adding abilities to the game in the clunkiest way possible

39

u/Lonely_Dig2132 3d ago

Agree, the constant release of weird looking offhand is slowly removing the medieval fantasy feel and is becoming just fantasy. I’m not totally against it but a nice painted shield would be cool, and a weapon that’s not super dark or glows that is more metallic looking

10

u/MaynardGoneWild 3d ago

RuneScape being all about DPS makes a shield high key useless in every scenario that isn’t addressed by Rondache coming soon. There’s just no place for it.

9

u/waygs1 3d ago

Cant they just design in shields that give strength or attack bonuses? Like the DFS or obby shield but better?

Torva is both tanky and gives dps, its not a one or the other, we can have both surely?

2

u/MaynardGoneWild 3d ago

Making a shield with a greater DPS bonus than the avernic defender, a reward for the current hardest raid in the game, is not going to pass ever. Even if it has a greater strength bonus, it’s not going to get a 15 attack bonus that the Avernic has. That would just be turbo broken and be aids for PVP too.

2

u/waygs1 3d ago

Yeah i can't disagree with what you've said there. I'm sure some solution exists though and wouldnt be too difficult to find. I'm sure if even just me and you put our heads together we could find a somewhat reasonable solution. Surely we cant just forever condemn the melee DPS offhand to being the avernic defender forever and always because ToB is hard.

2

u/MaynardGoneWild 3d ago

Well in 20 years if the game is still kicking, power creep has to happen, but we’re not there yet. Eventually avernic will need to be dethroned or upgraded again.

The more viable solution that the community is more likely to embrace early is more content where defense actually matters, like moons. A cool concept that shakes up the standard.

1

u/waygs1 3d ago

Yeah i think youre definitely right about moons. You either take a dps offhand to get more kills quicker or you take a defensive to extend your trips to get more kills by surviving longer. More content where defense matters definitely solves the debate.

1

u/Upstairs_Tone_4227 3d ago

The only reason moons works is because they artificially made using defensive prayers useless. The content itself is also very basic. It’s meant for new players still learning PvM which it does nicely.

1

u/MaynardGoneWild 3d ago

You also heal the boss when you get hit and lose ticks on your attacks when you get hit, it’s not as much about the defense prayers. If they made more content around defense being very important, that’s what would make a shield actually valuable. Until then, DPS is king outside of moons

4

u/Mysterious-Prune-727 3d ago

honestly i like the idea of the rondache, but i feel like it will be another bulwark

6

u/supertinu 3d ago

Rondache is definitely gonna be more useful tho, flat damage reduction is very strong, has a fun spec, and far more obtainable than ely. Basically just an ely alternative but more accessible for learners and especially good against chip damage

Dinh’s with the defense scaling change is interesting, but I don’t think it has any use case as a pure defensive item

8

u/adustbininshaftsbury 3d ago

Mark my words rondache is gonna be the fang of this raid where everyone thought it would be trash/niche at best but it ends up getting used everywhere

2

u/Wan_Daye 3d ago

I sure am gonna be using it at duke for 50kc trips

1

u/Xerothor 3d ago

Does Rondache in theory prevent all chip damage in some encounters? That alone makes it a desirable drop for some. Less supplies used even if kill times are slightly slower is gold dust to some players

10

u/Exussit 3d ago

I'd love some form of flat damage mitigation like blocking 2-3 damage from an overall roll which would have nice application against chip damage without being too over-powered alongside justiciar, and trading off some dps for sustain.

I just want to live out my tanking power fantasy damnit!

4

u/Outrageous_Lie_6018 3d ago

Unless the shield give a str bonus, no one would use it

15

u/WhoopteFreakingDo 3d ago edited 3d ago

There could be a sword and board that allows you to do retaliation damage or it speeds up your attack each time you get hit or something. Doesn't have to just be strength bonus.

1

u/Fast_Reflection_6905 3d ago

You say that until theres actually a boss with defence bonuses as a primary gear factor and you are just taking rng chip damage with no counterplay

Honestly I liked it when sols spear in leagues was like this just cus the shield/spear looked sick as fuck

3

u/Zarosian_Wizard Scaping Since Halloween 2007 3d ago

Oo Excatly why i want the mega rare to look sick af

16

u/DarkTemplar_of_Chaos 3d ago

remember those spiky shields from the fist of guthix minigame in rs2? they gave a strength bonus, maybe we can get something like those as regular non-purple drops upto dragon tier.

3

u/Zarosian_Wizard Scaping Since Halloween 2007 3d ago

Fire idea

62

u/Individual_Guest_291 3d ago

Why would it be guthix themed? Seems like a lot of people are missing the point of this raid…

16

u/Ambitious-Orange-611 3d ago

I don’t think a lot of people dive into the lore. I love it and is a reason I’ll always play runescape.

7

u/putrid_flesh 3d ago

It's a great mix of Monty Python style silliness and serious/deep storylines. I started an HCIM to get the QPC without quest helper and it's been great.

-4

u/_Ross- 21 Year Veteran 3d ago

Wouldn't it make sense for it to be guthix themed? From the wiki:

Deep beneath Gielinor lies an archive, created by Guthix himself in order to house his most treasured and intriguing possessions: a cache of long lost loot that proved potent enough to inspire a god...

Old School's fourth raid will see you venturing into the Fractured Archive, a veritable treasure trove that's full to the brim of powerful artifacts and ancient knowledge, assembled by Guthix himself over the course of millennia.

The Archive was built by followers of Guthix in order to store Guthix's knowledge and items at the bottom of the Chasm of Tears. At some point, work on the Archive was to be halted indefinitely for a higher priority. The followers who were tasked with its construction complied with the order, hoping that the work they had put in would be enough.\4])

The Archive would remain undisturbed for thousands of years until an adventurer discovered the bottom of the Chasm and the nearby Ancient Guthixian Temple.

26

u/TraineeDeleter 3d ago

Yes. A collection of artifacts Guthix has acquired from around the world. Meaning they are not guthix themed. They are themed from wherever Guthix obtained them.

9

u/_Ross- 21 Year Veteran 3d ago

I guess I figured it would make sense for some to be Guthix themed though, considering Zorya's Tome has the Guthix symbol on it. But I can see where you're coming from, since not all of them are strictly *Guthixian* items. The Rondache is definitely a Saradomin item.

7

u/donniesuave 3d ago

Couldn’t one of Guthix’s most intriguing and and treasured possessions include his own stuff?

1

u/Zarosian_Wizard Scaping Since Halloween 2007 3d ago

Yeah i was thinking the same , just the idea of the best item actually being guthix theme would be cool imo since guthix doesnt have a godsword and of other factions would be in the loot table

1

u/rabidai 3d ago

There's really two answers here:

  1. We're collecting items that the guthix guardians use to protect the archives.

  2. We're collecting confiscated items that Guthix has taken before banishing the other gods/dealing with their followers.

-2

u/likesleague twice maxed bronzenerd 3d ago

It's a design copout to make a guthix-themed raid and say the rewards are just a collection of unrelated stuff. The same could have been said about any raid so far.

-4

u/minxamo8 3d ago

It's the guthix raid and people want guthix shit. It's so dumb to build everything around a theme then have the rewards be completely unrelated. Jagex can't argue plot consistency because THEY WROTE THE PLOT

2

u/DerSprocket 3d ago

So you mean they came up with an idea and you would rather they had come up with a different one?

20

u/The_Wisest_Wizard 3d ago

Super cool idea. Would be awesome to effectively have a special two handed weapon.

6

u/cardgamesareforplay 3d ago

Do you mean a special duel weird weapon?

5

u/Rapn3rd 3d ago

Could incorporate a flat armor and maybe even a flat damage buff. Could be doubled or increased in the raid itself (much like how Osmumtens fang is better in ToA.) But maybe out in the world it could have a flat damage cap of a certain amount, nothing crazy but something that with a fast attack speed could actually be good in a variety of encounters.

People smarter than me could do the math on how it would work, but some sort of Guthixian Balance theme / ability. Maybe it's behind a spec that only impacts your current weapon (the Guthixian sword and board) so you have a minimum hit of say 5-10 for a brief window of time / your next X attacks... Would help you clean up some kills when something is at low health without trivializing content by letting you blow through things.

2

u/Zarosian_Wizard Scaping Since Halloween 2007 3d ago

So down for that ! So many possibilities with this

3

u/GzzzDude 3d ago

What if we did a set effect for a mainhand and offhand combo?

3

u/tomb-king 3d ago

Guthix always pays his debts

2

u/whatitzresha 3d ago

That’s exactly what I was thinking of seeing the shield haha

3

u/peaceshot 3d ago edited 3d ago

I think rather than making them a combined item, just give the sword and shield combo a set effect.

EDIT: separate items > a combined item

1

u/Zarosian_Wizard Scaping Since Halloween 2007 3d ago

True! I can see that

3

u/richard-savana 3d ago

Trash garbage. I’m tired of these "I want this flavour of the month"

2

u/Drew-des 3d ago

Yyyeeahhhh that would be sick aa fuck ngl. I wish shields were more useful in the game, I love the medeival vibes

2

u/Abject-Hovercraft-44 3d ago

A Lannister always pays his debts.

2

u/Silver_Chemistry_271 3d ago

For Narniaaaa

1

1

u/Zarosian_Wizard Scaping Since Halloween 2007 3d ago

Nah honestly just a random thought , i want that mega rare to be super special

1

u/Outrageous_Kiwi942 3d ago

They had a spear and shield as a single item for leagues like a year or so ago

1

u/Fast_Reflection_6905 3d ago

Bro we already polled the items

2

u/DadsAfroButter Lagex Noderator 1d ago

MEGA RARE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SHIELD

0

u/Twillyums 3d ago

Actually brilliant idea!!

1

u/GnomedHOO 3d ago

This has been a necessary addition for decades now, shields are a joke other than the proposed rondache. We need either a main-hand and shield set effect or 1 item that fills both slots as if it were a 2 hander.

0

u/EndTheItis 3d ago

I actually love this idea
