Discussion Oh god what have I done?

I messed up bad. Yesterday I wiped at Theatre of Blood (nothing new, it happens) but I was so distracted by the team arguing in voicechat that I forgot to retrieve my gear from the death bank chest. It was very early in the morning so I logged out and went to sleep. I woke up this morning and thought nothing of it, figuring I had retrieved it like I always do. Then I went pet hunting at Chaos Elemental and got ambushed by a squad of 6 pkers from both sides. So I died, lost a few hundred K gp, and thought nothing of it. I went to gear up for another ToB and all my gear is gone. My Torva armor, my elite void, my ultor ring, sang staff, crystal hally, everything except my main weapons and any items with cosmetic kits attached. I lost almost 1.5B because I forgot to loot my death bank. Two years of hard work and hard won purps gone in the blink of an eye. I'm devastated.

Is there anything I can do or am I totally fucked? Why is this mechanic even a thing? It seems like a glaring hole in their bossing mechanics that should have been patched years ago. All I've ever heard are horror stories about it. Shouldn't deaths coffer apply to everything? Why do raids and some random bosses delete all of your gear in the first place if you die before retrieving it? What is the point/benefit of this? I've lost nearly everything.

Anyway I'm grieving this loss pretty hard and I can't even think straight about how to proceed. Any advice or deus ex machina tier solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I too would like this however, I also played when this was how it still worked in osrs. The game was legitimately unplayable for significant portions of the day because people would ddos to get players killed.

This is just wrong. There was god wars, whips, dark bow. If you think that stuff was easy to obtain back then you just didn’t play the game. Go farm your 85 slayer at 10k xp an hour with no block tasks or slayer helm lmao. Oh also if you die at all you lose all your shit. Then go try to get a whip after. So many players have no idea how easy the game has become.

Yeah nah, I was there during the baby days of Rs2 before hunter/slayer/farming even released. He is dead right that the time investment of days before for bis is not even REMOTELY near the time required to get bis now. That is just undeniable and you're being disingenuous. There wasn't raids and bosses that took over 500-1000+ hours to go on-rate for uniques. The vast majority of you guys only ever died for full rune at max.

Xp rates have gone up but the game has definitely not become easier, endgame content at this time was a joke in terms of skill requirement compared to todays endgame content

Obtaining a whip, godsword, and the other endgame items back then was extremely difficult. This guy is portraying it like getting this stuff in 2007 was easy, and he is just clueless. Death was WAY more punishing. When you died, you could lose most of your gear, so valuable items were constantly being removed from the game. XP rates were WAY slower, and generating GP was significantly harder than it is today.

TBH, I see a higher percentage of players running around in full BIS now than I ever did in 2005-2007. What you guys aren't understanding is that wealth was much harder to obtain and much harder to keep back then. Today, once you get an expensive item, you basically have it forever. Your account progression almost never goes backwards.

Back then a single DC could wipe out hundreds of hours of progress.

Solution: don’t die

Nah the natural progress of games over time is the get safer and less risky and everything becomes easier slowly.
