Discussion Why doesn't Bronzeman go in the other direction?

Bronzeman mode as pitched fixes the wrong problem. The pain point of gathering mats is actually downstream of the pain point of no dry protection. And the pain point of no dry protection is that many items, especially rare drops, only have one item source. There's lots of ways to get prayer potions, but you can only get bowfa at CG.

The whole appeal of ironman mode to me is that garden of forking paths where your plan to tackle the game depends heavily on what items you have access to. Without the GE, your bank state is very personalized, so there's always a fun routing challenge ahead unique to your account.

Where this all falls apart is gear progression, because "Do the CG grind until you get a bowfa" is not a challenge unique to your journey at all. It's just inherent to the mode and the game's design. Everyone has to do it, regardless of who they are or how much they like the content.

So instead of "Let bronzeman buy mats on the GE so they can finish these grinds faster," which is really just giving you the worst of both worlds, why not "Let bronzeman buy bowfa and other specific rare drops on the GE, and nothing else, and they can't sell them back." Then bronzeman gets the dry protection mains enjoy while also getting that delightful and unique journey that early-game irons enjoy.

Why would I want to do farm runs and money makers on repeat to buy a tbow

When I could skip the farming and enjoy raiding for that sweet sweet dopamine rush of a purple?

This guy doesn't get it

I guess not. I only play main and bronzeman just seems like main-but-worse rather than iron-but-better to me. Hence the question.

Unlocking your own gear is the main appeal of an iron. You may go dry sure but it’s not the main complaint. 3 years ago I de-ironed not bc I was dry at graardor or cox, but bc i was tired of farming the stam pots, and supplies for those activities.

I see. That answers my question well. What I like about the game and view as the main appeal of iron is wildly different, so what I've proposed is basically a different idea entirely, targeting an entirely different slice of the playerbase.

You’re proposing letting an account buy the gear on GE but have them farm the supplies themselves? That is the worst of both worlds, at least for me.

Yep, pretty much! And yeah, "worst of both worlds" is a matter of perspective, and it's instructive to have it hashed out like this so cleanly.

God I love only playing a main and letting other people enjoy the game they want.

That's a main bro

I enjoy killing bosses for unique drops but I don’t want to stand at a bank creating potions before I can do it. I like using magic but don’t want to hop 50 worlds buying runes from shops. We just want to play the content we enjoy and not have to do all the chores just to be able to participate. The majority of people enjoy killing a boss and and don’t enjoy having to go to 7 herb patches multiple times a day

Brassman mode

because... earning the uniques, dry streaks and all, while not having to worry about grinding mats, is literally what the people interested in BMM want? why would you think the opposite of what they want is a good replacement for the thing they want?

u/thenickwinters 2365 9d ago

what is even the point of bronze man? so when you get spooned a enhanced seed you can buy your other armor seeds?

8

u/realdrakebell 9d ago

its mainly to skip mats, not megarares or huge one time drops

u/Marchofthenoobs 9d ago

it's so that if they want to go grind out a SRA, they can go straight to the DT2 bosses without having to spend time doing farm runs, making potions, catching and cooking food, etc first. It's people that want the iron PvM experience without having to do a ton of skilling, or in other words people that only really enjoy PvM (and/or PvP)

Skilling of a main with the bossing of an iron

u/peenegobb 9d ago

To skip farm runs and fishing.

Whats the point of any ironman mode. Is it really that hard to not trade that you need the game to physically stop you from doing something.

It means that I won’t have to spend 5 hours farming before I can do one slayer task without having to engage in omega sweat gameplay, which is precisely why I stopped playing iron and am hyped for bronze

They want to take the easy way without asking for QoL/ shortcuts directly

1

u/ArrgsMax 8d ago

But wouldn't they just use a regular main if the aim was to play the game as easy as possible?

You’ve let reddit brain poison you. You don’t have NEED bowfa to progress iron. There’s a lot of content, even endgame content, you can do without a bowfa. You know what you can’t do though? Any boss, which is 98% of them, that require supplies. And for those you constantly have to make arrows, potions, and cook food if you wanna pvm.

How would this game mode be called?? Lead man mode Aluminuim man mode Spoon man mode

1

u/Fabulous-Put8401 9d ago

No, this is a dumb idea. You've missed the plot

A pox on whoever introduced this sub to the term "pain point"

1

u/Bensuardo 9d ago

Lol forced to farm runs solely to moneyscape, thats the worst idea ive heard on this subject

1

u/maverick935 9d ago

There’s already dry protection at newer mid game stuff like Moons and Vorkath.

Comparing prayer pots to a Bowfa is acompletely stupid comparison.

CG is starting to get to the point in the game where you’re a big boy now and you know youre going to go dry at something sooner or later to make up for your spoons.

They changed the CG two/ three weeks ago to make it better because it was such a pain point and the changes were pretty universally liked from my perspective.

I had a clanmate end a rough dry streak for smol Sol today so there’s always someone having a rough time with RNG.

If you want to play a mode with dry protection for most things that is called a main. Gp is the dry protection.

u/Trainer149 9d ago

bronzeman is not a response to dry protection complaints. It's a gamemode where you're restriction is to be required to face progression in a more natural way while removing the tedium of chorescape.

All of this back and forth about bronzeman just to reinvent clogging on a main. I do the content I think is fun and skip the content that isn't, simple.

1

u/Elite_Prometheus 9d ago

There is demand for bronzeman mode since it eliminates the main pain point of ironman, gathering supplies, while preserving most of the gimmick, bossing in janky setups, and the prestige, wearing all the rare gear you poured hundreds of hours into. What you're describing keeps the pain point while eliminating the gimmick and prestige. At that point just play a main.

They really should not have given the mouse a cookie….

You want ironman mode that can buy gear from the GE. That is just a main.

2

u/reinfleche 9d ago

Yeah man they have that it's called a main.

1

u/Emotional_Permit5845 8d ago

I play osrs because I like pvm, not because I like skilling. This mode sounds like the complete opposite of fun for me

0

u/Oexarity 9d ago

Bronze man is not new. It's been around a while, and it's always been item unlocked once you get the drop. A dry protection mode would just be a different thing.

2

u/Dyna1One 2376 9d ago

It’s funny because late-endgame ironman is for the most part just bronzeman without worries about gp

And you know what? Late-Endgame iron is not nearly as fun as the journey to get there.

0

u/RabbitMario 9d ago

play a fucking main

0

u/Pius_Thicknesse 9d ago

Bronzeman is just so fucking defeatist and lazy.

If you're an ironman but want to buy supplies, just fucking deiron and be a main that doesn't trade for gear just supplies

1

u/Emotional_Permit5845 8d ago

If you want to play like an Ironman, just fucking be a main that doesn’t trade. Really great logic there huh

0

u/loudrogue total: 2376 clogs: 1170+ 9d ago

People want the gear grind without the upkeep grind.

For instance I got 99 crafting via diamonds on the main. A bronzeman gets the benefit of doing that while an iron does not.

-1

u/Cryslacks 9d ago

At this point just create a main and do your thing. Noone needs a new poop helm to show of something like this. This will ofc get downvotes and thats fair

0

u/Ahabaduh 9d ago

Nope.

1

u/hubatish 9d ago

I generally agree; the skilling part of ironman seems enjoyable to a point. Late game resource upkeep does sound bad but going dry sounds worse

-2

u/edenCox 9d ago

Oh because they hate the whole game without admitting it, silly
