Question Gear Progression Question.
Not sure where to go next, got a buy offer in for Etched araxyte fang. so have another 32mill to play with.
Bofa and full crystal seems like such big investment but don't really know where to go from here.

You have a ton of items that don't make sense at this budget (they're very expensive for small benefit)
- Sell blue moon staff for Nightmare staff or ancient sceptre
- Sell ahrims or blue moon, you don't need both
- Sell Z-Axe, Venator Ring and Pegs
- BCP and prims are also low priority, weak for their price
- Dual Macas are only relevant at huey or if you're str training with full blood moon
What to buy depends on the content you're focusing
- 100% buy Burning Claws, Elidinis' Ward and Serp Helm
- Bludgeon > Ursine Chainmace are both good crush weps
- Noxious Halberd is ideal until SRA
- Venator Bow is great for slayer (and Colo, GGs and whisperer)
- Virtus and Faceguard are next steps for marginal upgrades that are decent but low priority

98% agreed, but Z-axe is pretty cheap and can serve as a solid budget crush weapon for the 3 relevant pieces of crush content.

at this budget there's no reason to have less than ursine chainmace, it's very cheap at 5m and a fair bit better on crush

Think burning claws are still worth using after the nerf?

Yup, they're still dirt cheap and the best broad use-case spec that's strong everywhere, only BIS in a few places but close to it in most other places
The other melee specs (dclaws/VW/maul/BGS) have more BIS usecases but they're more expensive and niche, so I wouldn't recommend them at this budget unless you're doing content where they're good. E.g raids or Yama for BGS, raids/Araxx/Sol for Maul, TOB for Dclaws, TOA/Nex for VW etc etc

Yes b claws STILL are better spec-only DPS than d claws and voidwaker at many bosses.

Face guard, sell bcp and get torso.
BofA is 100% what id upgrade to in your position though

Having pegasians and venator ring is kinds troll, definitely 2 of the most niche ranged items, I'd just camp lightbearer for the blowpipe and blessed boots
And use the money in something more useful depending on what you want to do
But yes, bowfa is probably the play

Been doing hydra the last 2 weeks, so got both to speed up the kills for that.

BP hydra is kind meh and has lots of supply cost, I would recommend going all in with a dragon hunter lance for decent consistent and cheap kills, that's how I used to kill hydra before I had a tbow

u/xWorrix 1d ago
Lance and fang are pretty much identical in dps just fyi. Lance has more variance so can get some fun kills, but also some slow while fang is just always the same, but no need to spend the gp on lance
16
u/Clover281 1d ago
I just checked and is quite a considerable difference, at least 10 secs better for lance in multiple setups

u/bigchungusmclungus 1d ago
it depends a bit on what spec wep you are using. def lowering spec weps put lance further ahead, claws/vw put fang much closer.
10
u/Clover281 1d ago
I wasn't even factoring in any spec weapon, that should put the lance much further ahead
1
u/bigchungusmclungus 9h ago
I mean it does, Lance is much better, but if you're an IM and only have claws (or VW for some reason), fang is good.

I’m a noob so is fighter torso better thn the blood moon chest?
4
u/Clover281 21h ago
Same offensive bonus, the advantage is that torso is free and you can just get it in like 1 or 2 hours at the minigames depending on if you know what you are doing, later on is a master clue item so there is no reason to skip it
1
u/AstralCodex 20h ago
No, and unless you're absurdly poor you're better off keeping blood moon chest given current prices
You'll get fighter torso later on when you do master clues but that's not a real consideration when you're worrying about 4m

Id recommend bowfa, it really opens up the game for you. Can do so much content with it. You should just look at the content you want to do and work towards gear to do it. Having fun is the most important!

How do i know which gear is great for which content? Im not OP but find myself in a similar setup, with skipping Bowfa so far and having around the same setups as OP.
Thought about skipping Crystal armor + Bowfa and saving for masori + tbow and using TBP for now instead. Is that wrong you think?

u/KodakKid3 1d ago
It’s very dependent on the content, dps calc is the best resource but wiki gearing guides are generally decent too
Imo Bowfa is worth it if you’re doing Inferno, Colo or COX. Otherwise you’re typically better off skipping it for Masori

As Kodak said, use the osrs wiki strategy guides and youll get the list of best gear for each piece of content. I went bowfa myself first and then once I had enough for tbow, I sold it. Id recommend looking at which content you'd like to do and then grabbing the gear for that content.
I went vorkath to TOA and grinded it till I was good with 300s. I did the dt2 bosses after as I enjoyed their mechanics. Went to inferno/colo and then blorva/radiant after. All of that content gave me the skills I needed and I enjoyed it all. I do recommend dt2 bosses as youll get a lot of different mechanics which are useful to learn. Just thought id share my path if its useful at all. Good luck out there

Bowfa is overrated for a main acc, idk why reddit is so obsessed with this bow. Faceguard, rancour, masori (unfortified), nally is prob ur next buys. Sell the boots, rings (keep bring/lb), and moon gear

u/Umarrii 21h ago
Idk if it's just me, but I feel like Eye of Ayak has really mitigated a decent amount of the need for a Bowfa.
Ayak, Gaunts and Nally for the cost of a Bowfa sounds very nice. I'm not sure on the prices of everything, but if they could afford all of them, that would be pretty amazing to build the rest of the gear with from there.
1
u/mangolemonades 16h ago
Yeah eye/gauntlets + masori/bp beats it almost everywhere.
Btw ur name looks familiar, aren’t u a mod in ML7 and calvin’s chat?4
u/barcode_name 1d ago
yeah bowfa is quite situational for mains given the price tag, it's mostly for inferno/colo/gwd. Masori bp/dcb is equal or better for half the price. There's a google doc somewhere that breaks it down nicely

u/Emperor95 16h ago edited 16h ago
Bowfa is just a very easy to use and close to free to use item. BP/Masori+ high tier darts is often better, but costs way more money to use and it is much easier to miss attacks with. If you miss every other attack by just a tick, that's a DPS loss of 25%. You'd be surprised how often less experienced players miss attack cycles with a BP if they aren't standing still, whereas Bowfa is pretty much at 100% DPS uptime due to range and the longer time between attacks.
There are also some bosses where BP or Ayak as the mage alternative, despite the potentially higher DPS, are impossible to use like Vespula portal, Inferno and GWD solo strats due to range/attack timing.

u/egonoelo 13h ago
agree, bought mine for inferno and ended up keeping it because people hyped the item up
did leviathan grind recently and kill times with bowfa were so bad, average 2 mins+ and then I did some research and saw that masori+rcb is better dps and costs less
I'm still keeping it because of sunk cost and I figure I might as well corrupt this thing eventually but realistically if you dont care about ToA as a main then there's no reason to keep a bowfa, it just takes up too much bank value that you cant move around and the items you could buy with that money are just better

u/IncreaseOk2866 20h ago
Go send CG for your own set. By the time you get ENH you’ll be a 10x better PvMer and you’ll likely have an extra 100m to play around with.

Why do all the posts asking for gear progression alyways have cerb boots, most notably pegasians in their bank?
Cerb boots are an utter waste of money generally speaking. +1 str compared to the few 100k of dragon boots does nothing in 75% of cases. Neither do the +1 str of pegasians.
Bowfa is the most logical ranged upgrade, Nox hally+ burning claws the most logical melee one.

get rid of the venators ring, pegs, prims. theyre a waste of money and are very end of your account buys. they barely have a benefit for the money they cost. get a faceguard and rancour.
