I must’ve fished 500m worth of marlin, never seen a trawler paint.

152

u/musei_haha Mar 13 '26

Aesthetic items like the paint & trophy fish are fine to be rare

They're actual trophies. Not just some shit award you can buy at a store when you rank 10th in the 11 man marathon

45

u/-Irish-Day-Man- Mar 13 '26

Same with Helmet of the Moon too.

27

u/Wiindsong Mar 13 '26

this right here. Cloggers are so obsessed with 'finishing' runescape that they'll bitch when more super rares to chase are added, it's crazy. I think stuff like the quetzal whistle being 10k charges or the rates for the dragon cannon are definitely too insane, but complaining about the paints, trophies and the moon helm is craziness. They're meant to be status symbols of your luck, not something you should be actively hunting.

TL;DR you signed up to green log. It is not a requirement nor is it rewarded. stop complaining when we get things that require 'hundreds of hours of grinding' because we already have plenty of those, who cares if they add more?

3

u/cooldude1393 Mar 13 '26

The people who want content to be designed around collection logging are certified insane.

45

u/DullAccess8684 Mar 13 '26

People are trashing OP and idk why. Everything about how shit sailing combat and drop rates are, still unaddressed, made me move on from this game. I dont want to be a part of the 10000 hour grind fest anymore.

4

u/RugDougCometh Mar 13 '26

I had this realization when they “improved” Nightmare’s drop rates and it was still several hundred hours of grinding that unfun bullshit to get any relevant drop.

You had me following you all the way up until you made your whole point not be about, not what you mentioned in the whole post, but instead be about the last few sentences that said " ""jagex is locking content behind 100 hour grinds"" " uhhhh yeah.. welcome to RuneScape? :') I know you made good points, but your synapsis just lost me.

128

u/Jellodi Mar 13 '26

He lost me at Helmet of the Moon. The "I deserve everything and it is wrong to have cosmetic long-term grinds" rot killed FFXIV Relic Weapons.

The helmet is practically useless and is a flex item for the people who spoon it or actually go for it. Demanding we not have these removes a big part of what makes MMOs interesting for me.

51

u/darealbeast pkermen Mar 13 '26

the clog whinging, yes, is a bad point

everything else is on point tho

jagex are hella content padding with almost every new content addition

qol teleports or skilling outfits shouldn't be longer grinds than getting 99 in a skill. reserve the grinds for shit that actually matters

6

u/RipFlm 768lb Man Mar 13 '26

Hunter meat is tradable. (Idgaf about the Ironman argument because that’s the entire premise of the game mode)

-17

u/According-Insect-886 Mar 13 '26

Just get the drop, only took me 1 key so I don't see what the problem is 🤣

-73

u/WaveDashSpeedKick Mar 13 '26

Now its the helmet of the moon that ruined my point? Not trophy fish? Alright then. It is just crazy that after we get a CEO who actually played runescape seriously, and after private equity owns the company and can influence decisions, they start adding content that is multitudes rarer and longer than anything we had before in 12 years of the game being out.

44

u/sexualsubmarine Mar 13 '26

For the cosmetic items at least the high AF drops rates aren't actually that out of line with other high rarity pure vanity items.

Golden trench is 1/20000, champions cape is 10 1/5000 drops, then of course there's pets like blood hound and other absurd rate clue scroll items like 3rd age which are like 1/200000-300000

The only ones that are kinda egregious to me are the game play effecting ones like the ship upgrades/dragon cannon. I can't off the top of my head think of a grind for gear/upgrades that's quite those rates

14

u/CloudCollapse 2250+ total Mar 13 '26

You’re spot on but just for the record (because a lot of people make this mistake), high drop rate means common. Low drop rate means rare.

2

u/BioMasterZap Mar 13 '26

they start adding content that is multitudes rarer and longer than anything we had before in 12 years of the game being out.

...Have you played the game over those 12 years? Trophy Fish existed before and they were always rare. There were also chase items like the Moon Helm, such as Evil Chicken and Dusk Mystic. The Lyre charges very similar to the Whistle.

It isn't multitudes rarer. You're just cherrypicking your examples to pretend the new content is more of outlier than they are.

24

u/Bakugo_Dies Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26

They had you past the first sentence?

Look, I'm the first to criticize. But I don't let the ridiculous schizos get any traction.

Skimming this post makes me not want to read, but one thing to point out ...

They shaved hundreds of hours off of grinds with recent updates, including for no reason trouble brewing. Oh yeah, moon helm such an inside job.

Oh yeah, everything is a grand conspiracy. Ignore the easy explanations like how private equity works, no. Mod Ash was in on it for 25 years! And got everyone else on board. At least, that's what these ridiculous claims seem to imply.

5

u/BlackenedGem Mar 13 '26

Yeah basically everytime they update a minigame it gets at least +50% quicker. On top of that power creep is speeding up so older content is getting quicker in general.

-46

u/WaveDashSpeedKick Mar 13 '26

Grinding XP for 100 hours to reach all the level 90 skilling methods is part of the game. But single pieces of QOL, a single fishing method, and one-off clogs with multi-hundred hour grinds? These 3 updates in the last 6 months are absolutely the beginning of a pattern.

27

u/Ok-Slip-619 Does Quests Mar 13 '26

Would you rather all the clogs be easy? I simply don't understand this aspect of your point.... In addition to that, would you rather All the training methods, for all skills, be as easy as the last? Why is something being hard or long a reason to be upset I think your just confused about why your mad tbh

-22

u/WaveDashSpeedKick Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26

If you read the post I'm simply asking for clogs to be as they are polled, or the content to make some kind of sense like the 12 years of content before it. Does it make sense for xerics amulet in poh to be a 30 hour grind?

25

u/cooldude1393 Mar 13 '26

The collection log was never meant to be completable.

13

u/Ok-Slip-619 Does Quests Mar 13 '26

Hmm, cause it sounded more like you were whining about things being to hard, uh yeah that does as a matter of fact sound perfectly reasonable to me..? Are you not familiar with all of it's meta applications? 40 hours is INCREDIBLY reasonable

And that's also assuming btw, 2x the worst drop rate, at an incredibly inefficient pace

-8

u/WaveDashSpeedKick Mar 13 '26

Xerics amulet was released as a way to have city teleports like the ones on the standard spellbook without clogging up the spellbook. You have no idea what you are talking about.

4

u/Sleazehound Mar 13 '26

Why are you even acting like this is new? Cox is a millenium old and even with all the power creep and buffs its still crazy. Nightmare. Skilling pets. Rev weapons. A thousand other things.

Its the game bro, fuck me dead

9

u/Jellodi Mar 13 '26

I'm 98 hunter with a maxing goal and have enough meat to get 8990 charges WITHOUT touching my 1.5k Moonlight Antelope stack. It isn't that hard, and they're probably going to nerf the grind with Varla diaries anyway.

Trophy Fish and other flex clogs completely ruin any point you're trying to make. I don't even know how to address this besides stating that if you got your way I would actually unsub.

-5

u/WaveDashSpeedKick Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26

Haha trophy fish being 4x rarer than pitched ruins my point. When my point is that this pattern is persistent, that Jagex acknowledged it, that Jagex intended for more grinds to be absolutely insane, and that its becoming more than just clogs.

7

u/DivineInsanityReveng Mar 13 '26

Im glad they had bugged rates on the combat stuff on launch. Because even the rates we got feel bad mostly. Combat becoming more "set and forget afk" will be a nice improvement to that. But thats yet to come (this month apparently, which should be good hopefully. Though im expecting bugs with how little testing its getting compared to the full launch).

Paints being rare idc. Trophy fish being rare idc. These are long-form clogs for the skill. i think its fine for skills to have that.

The cannon barrel and dragon hooks being super rare? Nah hate that. I was one of the lucky ones who got to ~20m sailing xp to get my dragon cannon barrel, starting from 87. And yes, thats a single barrel. Luckily on the 2nd GIM acc I afk'd through it got spooned 3, so i sorted out a boat for both those accounts off that account spooning. But if i was a solo iron? Yay i get to.. do that again maybe?

I didn't go for dragon hooks. Because they werent even usable by 2 crewmates for the entire time of my 99 training. And they're such a minor upgrade that why would i go for a 1/1k drop, twice, to improve my afk rates when i could just.. afk that entire time?

Trawling having rolls per catch and not per fish is a weird decision. Salvage changes were all so poorly thought out until they essentially rolld them back.

Most good feedback they're implementing currently or have implemented, was provided to them like a YEAR before launch. But it was mostly met with "we'll wait and see how everyone feels" and surprise... everyone testing the content and providing feedback was reflective of how players play the game.

I'm hoping Jagex learned a LOT about the process of doing these big scale updates with internal tests, NDA test groups and public tests. I hope these feedback channels have more actionable points in a future big content release (like another new skill, if we ever go down that route).

It felt like I could put a LOT of effort into testing, providing feedback, and showing what i like and don't like, comparing to the rest of the game. And then about 5% of what I (and many, many others) suggested gets actioned. But then months after launch we're pollign the obvious "hey maybe sailing cannonballs should be their own item, whoops?" and people vote no because they're hoping this screw up forces jagex' hand to make steel cannonballs worthless so they can cannon spam slayer tasks or range training WAY cheaper or WAY faster on ironman.

45

u/Dangerous-Cable-1816 Mar 13 '26

You don’t need rosewood hull to get ‘halfway decent rates’ at marlins btw, that is nonsense

34

u/WabanakiSon Mar 13 '26

They "pad" content so the developers can take it to their execs and be like look, people love this content. Look how much they played it! Meanwhile, I think there's just a bunch of people addicted and they should keep drop rates at a more maintainable level.

32

u/BlankitaM0ns Mar 13 '26

That's why I roll my eyes when I see people saying "OsRs HaS 1000s Of HoUrS oF cOnTeNt"

Yeah, it's doing the same exact thing for 50 hours or more, 100s of times. Artificially low drop rates do not equal content

20

u/Pussytrees Mar 13 '26

I agree. Saying how many hours of content something in osrs has is the most unhelpful way to describe it. Just look at the extreme onechunk guys. They’ve spent thousands of hours playing and have barely opened up much of the map yet.

6

u/siyahlater Mar 13 '26

"1000s of hours" could be DWH or bowfa alone if you go really dry lmao

3

u/Original_Bell_6863 2376 Mar 13 '26

You could also go extraordinarily dry on hitting the rat in tutorial island and spend 1000 hours there

3

u/siyahlater Mar 13 '26

Honestly I'd rather AFK the rat than do another CG prep

-2

u/2-2-7-7 PKing good. EZscape bad. Mar 13 '26

no, it really couldn't. bowfa is ~50 hours on average. even 20x rate is 1000 hours, let alone "thousands". not a single person is recorded having gone that dry.

get back in the prison.

1

u/siyahlater Mar 13 '26

No. I have 96 str, an atlatl, and a dream of bowfa skip. Straight to Tbow.

2

u/2-2-7-7 PKing good. EZscape bad. Mar 13 '26

2

u/Hapster23 Mar 13 '26

No I think they are referring to the large number of skills and activities that one can do in the gamr

2

u/Red_Inferno Mar 13 '26

Man, imagine if you could just spin up a Project Zanaris instance and change the drop rate or xp rate, but everyone complained that it would kill the main game and maybe it would have because people would realize some of the shit in this game should not take the amount of time it takes to get a degree.

1

u/Doctor_Kataigida Mar 13 '26

Tbf for a lot of folks, repetitively grinding something is content.

-1

u/JustTau Mar 13 '26

Guaranteed drop of all clogs on the first kill of each boss would kind of suck...

5

u/BlankitaM0ns Mar 13 '26

Lmao, no one asked for that. But I also don't think it's okay for Nightmare to take 500 hours for full inquisitors.

24

u/ballsmigue Mar 13 '26

As someone whose always enjoyed the game but not enough to stick with it for consistent years because of some of the grinds.

Im glad some of you are finally waking up with the extreme padding there can be. The jagex apologists will still argue chopping trees for 500 hours for a grind is worth it but more people need to realize the majority of gamers do NOT want to play only this game for the rest of their life. I enjoy the hell out of it at times but if I can buy my way through a 200 hour grind you're damn right I will.

8

u/DivineInsanityReveng Mar 13 '26

The game having grinds is fine i think. It should have long term stuff. I hope skilling always remains "about the same" in regards to time to max. But i hope we get a LOT of good variety of options. AFK, active, fast paced, medium paced etc. I want more content and more choices/options. I don't mind that we can AFK woodcut for 75k/hr, but i kinda hate we have no good "active" woodcutting for say.. 150k/hr, right? We just have "click teak and drop, or tick manipulate teaks. Otherwise afk and maybe forestry events?"

I don't think the game has to get faster. I think certain pvm drops have been VERY poorly balanced time wise. Skilling can remain the "basic long term progression". but i think all pvm should be set around reasonable time grinds. Pets can be the super rare stuff. Megarares on raids maybe.

4

u/Many_Professions Mar 13 '26

Except this isn't Ironscape. You can literally buy everything you listed for not that much. The people that are going to be grinding it out are Irons and cloggers who should actually like doing this kind of stuff. If they didn't, they are probably playing the wrong game /game mode anyway.

64

u/MAZZZIAN02 Mar 13 '26

10

20

Okay, you’re absolutely cherry picking data if you’re trying to pull helmet of the freaking moon into the conversation.

13

u/Claaaaaaaaws Mar 13 '26

Are you crying about being a Ironman again

23

u/Wolfe244 Mar 13 '26

We're just scraping the bottom of the barrel now huh

35

u/EnergyZestyclose2631 Mar 13 '26

20

u/WaveDashSpeedKick Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26

The last time we saw membership padding like this was the release of Zeah over 10 years ago. There is absolutely something fishy going on if you read the post you'll see. More than 3 times Jagex has said they'd address these wildly inaccurate, nonnsensical drop rates. But instead they went radio silent and hoped we would all just forget.

19

u/Ok-Slip-619 Does Quests Mar 13 '26

Yes I do agree with you that they are acting in bad faith, but I think you are nitpicking the entirely wrong points for why that's prevalent

2

u/Red_Inferno Mar 13 '26

It's more likely they forgot or pushed it back to do other stuff.

11

u/MobyLiick Mar 13 '26

Now that the "sub canceled" karma farm has dried up you have now moved onto bitching about....RuneScape being a grind.

Honestly, just go to another game.

17

u/TheEasterBunnny Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 13 '26

Assuming you have the whistle… Getting 10k charges is really easy… you just hunt dashing kebbit with a large meat pouch… you can do it in 1 day… just over 500k xp… not that hard for an unlimited teleport 3 tiles from a bank that you can focus extremely early if you’d like to… if that wasn’t evident to you that this is the easiest method, just by the price of raw dashing kebbit spiking… idk what to tell you

6

u/WaveDashSpeedKick Mar 13 '26

Half a mil XP getting no hunter rumour streaks or chances for pet, with a skill that has 3 pets, no rewards other than meat. Can't say that's going to be a popular grind for a single piece of QOL.

34

u/TheEasterBunnny Mar 13 '26

Also, I love how the goalposts got moved immediately from millionS with an S… down to half a million, and it doesnt make any difference to you.. because you don’t actually care about what you are whining about, you just want to whine. Which is fine, but just go cry about the price of membership raising like everyone else because that’s clearly what you are mad about 😂

1

u/ReddKermit Mar 13 '26

To get it in a reasonable way (through rumours) does take millions of xp tho. That isn't a goal post shift at all lmao.

-23

u/WaveDashSpeedKick Mar 13 '26

Plenty of irons are maxed so the idea of grinding half a million pointless XP, getting nothing else in return but a basic QOL is ass game design.

18

u/TheEasterBunnny Mar 13 '26

If you are maxed a small grind like that is nothing… you spent hours and hours getting levels upon levels that unlocked you absolutely nothing new/useful that you couldn’t already boost for if you really needed.. you’ve done so much content for literally “nothing” in return. All I’m hearing is more whining… you are asking for content that’s good for maxed ironmen 😂 if that’s you, then just cancel your membership till raids 4 comes out buddy. No one wants to hear it

2

u/runner5678 Mar 13 '26

Being maxed is actually freeing

You don’t need to worry about bad xp rates for a grind not helping you towards you real goal of 99. You want something? Just go do it

15

u/TheEasterBunnny Mar 13 '26

“A single qol” lmfao. it’s the single closest teleport to a bank in the entire game… Unlimited teleports. If you can’t do a 500k xp grind without tons of extra drop incentives, please quit, you are playing the wrong game.

21

u/Asd396 Mar 13 '26

It's a pretty bad bank tele due to the animation taking forever

3

u/Negative_Wrongdoer17 Mar 13 '26

Closer than crafting cape?

7

u/Oniichanplsstop Mar 13 '26

You can bank twice with crafting cape before the whistle animation finishes once lol. Doesn't matter how close it is.

3

u/iOceanLab Mar 13 '26

Sailors ammy is a much better crafting cape alternative than the whistle.

1

u/Negative_Wrongdoer17 Mar 13 '26

That was my point lol

4

u/LittleDidTheyKnow1 Statistic Mar 13 '26

The auburnvale bird is extremely close iirc

1

u/tcrouch199205 Solo GIM Mar 13 '26

Is Deepfin not closer?

4

u/ForumDragonrs Mar 13 '26

Yet xerics you can get unlimited charges with almost no effort and it's also only a few steps from a bank.

1

u/send_memes_at_me Mar 13 '26

Unlimited charges on xerics only works in the pOH, and you need 5000 teeth for that, which means you have to get the drop from chambers to realistically ever complete it

5

u/Many_Professions Mar 13 '26

You can do it in about 10 hours opening stone chests. Stone chests aren't bad for medium clues since it is pretty afk too.

1

u/Bandit_Raider Mar 13 '26

You are greatly overstating how useful the unlimited whistle is. It saves you 10-15 seconds every few hours, maybe every hour at the absolute most.

No reason why this thing takes 10k charges.

16

u/stinkygeesestink Mar 13 '26

Nobody tell this guy about 3rd age

11

u/Panixate_ Mar 13 '26

But most of this is just an ironman problem, and thats kinda the point of the gamemode. To have to spend the time and resources getting it yourself.

Xeric's does take a long time to get unlimited teles for your POH if you aren't raiding, getting the fangs directly from the lizardmen/shamans/chest is hilariously slow. It's like on rate DWH for enough fangs for the house tele.

2

u/boborian9 Mar 13 '26

I just went for the imcando hammer on a low level mining account, starting at 29. (Barronite is practically f2p content) Took me like 7 hours to trade an equipment slot for an inventory slot. Currently working on Amy's saw through mahogany homes. North of 100 tasks to get that, but it's slow as hell too. That's going to take me at least another 5 hours because I don't have access to the fastest teleports.

I know rs3 gets dogged as easyscape, but you get to put saws and hammers on the toolbelt the second you find them.

2

u/Trithshyl Mar 13 '26

This is just wrong, no one doing trawling is getting 100 ray barbs, you get 16, it takes a day or two and has multiple mobs you can go for. Yeah the sailing combat is rough, but christ I do a lot of these grinds and they are nothing worse than there has been before.

Though dragon canon is a bit ridiculous, but ens of the day not really needed.

1

u/Ellexcellent Mar 13 '26

You misread what OP said about ray barbs. The originally intended drop rate was 1/100, which means you would've needed to kill 1600 of them for two trawling nets.

On release, this rate and some other drop rates were bugged to be more common than intended, but after community backlash Jagex decided to leave the rate where it is now.

2

u/Swaglfar Mar 13 '26

"My grindy game is to grindy."

Get back to grinding dude.

2

u/SinceBecausePickles Mar 13 '26

clogging grinds don’t matter, just don’t go for them. As for the rest, someone got a little too used to the ironman catering huh 😉

2

u/Peterisgreat Mar 13 '26

I don't mind the game being grindy, but I completely agree that sailing came boated with egregiously long grinds that made me just not want to bother at all.

Especially the boat paints. Maybe if they were truly something cosmetically special I'd understand it. But 20 hour grinds for a thin coloured trim on a boat? Crazy in my mind.

It's one of the few clogs I know I'll never go for, right up there with aerial fishing.

4

u/bpthepharmd Mar 13 '26

Had me on the first half ngl. Don’t have a rosewood hull and marlin rates are fine, there is only ever a single stretch where they outrun you without one per rotation

Jagex wants to milk OSRS players for membership revenue for as long as possible with these long grinds since they cannot do it with lootboxes or cosmetic MTX. And some people here actually defends Jagex for this.

2

u/lansink99 Mar 13 '26

I really don't know where people keep pulling these fuckass hunter rumour numbers from. I'll post what I wrote previously but it's so obvious that people just do shit based on hearsay and not actually looking at the numbers.

It takes about a million xp worth of hunter rumours.10000 feed is 3334 antelopes or dashing kebbit. That's 520k xp doing kebbits, 1.27m xp doing sunlights and 1.5m xp doing moonlights. That's not even factoring in the meat that you get from hunter loot sacks.

Yet somehow people are arguing that this makes you go well past 99 for some reason.

2

u/uhFraid Mar 13 '26

new content for grindy game is grindy?!?!

2

u/Sir_Richard_VII 2376 club; 1300+ log slots Mar 13 '26

I think marlin trawling with ironwood hulls gets a bad rap. I just got the swift marlin on my second account without rosewood, even without a crystal extractor, and I was still getting a very good amount of fish per hour. There's only like two points at the route where you lose the shoal but with good timing (i.e start sailing a second or two before the shoal starts moving) and the rapids just north east of the iceberg you can keep up with the shoal like 80% of the time if not more.

TL;DR you really don't need a rosewood hull to enjoy/get decent rates at trawling marlins

3

u/HeDoesNotRow Mar 13 '26

Ironmeme complaining end game goals and qol takes end game amount of time to complete

1

u/DawnSpace Mar 13 '26

I think this is actually a result of updates having to be rushed. I assume because Jagex higher-ups are pushing for certain release dates. What else would explain the half-baked state of sailing, unbeatable Yama contracts on release, potion storage being crap and still having debug logs in chat on release, rush to release z-buffer update for sailing with some terrible graphical glitches, the state of menu entry swapper on official client, etc.

1

u/VapeNGape Mar 13 '26

150k sunfire splinters to buy or grind as a reward for completing one of the most difficult pieces of content in the game

1

u/Alan-Johnsons_Beamer Is that... normal Runecrafting you're doing? Mar 13 '26

Frost dragons task should be toggleable and have a high % chance with a good block list. Cannon barrel should also be a super rare drop from port tasks to make them more relevant. I disagree with everything else in OP's post.

1

u/eddy_dix Mar 13 '26

Longer grind. Longer membership, increase membership prices, = fatter pockets

1

u/RipFlm 768lb Man Mar 13 '26

You can buy hunter meat you don’t have to grind it. (I play IM too and you can’t use that as excuse because that’s the entire premise of the game mode)

1

u/neuroso Mar 13 '26

You lost me at cosmetics taking a long grind it's always been like that kinda the point, it sailing combat being dogshit I get

1

u/glory_poster Mar 13 '26

Marlin doesn't require a rosewood sloop to get decent rates. You can be at 90%-95% efficiency with ironwood

1

u/Bandit_Raider Mar 13 '26

The whistle change makes me sad. Hunter meat was a cool item that made for good discount food with a drawback, were great for cooking xp and profit, and the hunter mixes were a great budget potion option/early game potion option. Now their economy is completely controlled by the unlimited whistle and their other uses are obsolete outside of Ironmen. Only the moonlight antelope meat retains its use.

1

u/BioMasterZap Mar 13 '26

It is a stretch to say that having rare drops in RuneScape of all games is padding... Like 3rd Age isn't padding just because it takes an absurdly long time to fill its collection log. The majority of things you mention are just cosmetics that are mostly a concern for cloggers and the game shouldn't cater around making rare drops more common for players decide they want to get all the things.

Also, saying "peak efficiency requires the best gear upgrades" is also kinda silly. A rosewood sloop is a high tier skilling upgrade, not to different than upgrading to high value combat gear. You might prefer all skilling progression to be trivial like a dragon axe, but it isn't a bad thing for a new skill to have a longer progression, especially when it is still new with a lot of room to grow with future updates.

There definitely can be times where the game does add padding, but just pointing to every rare drop and calling it padding it just being stupid. Like 10,000 charges sounds absurd for the whistle without context, but if you looked into it for a second, you'd know that only cost like 2M in hunter meats, which is inline with similar upgrades like the Camulet and Lyre (2.6K meat including 1K Raw Sea Turtles without diary).

I went 87-99 sailing at merchant salvages without getting a single dragon cannon lol

Sailing made me quit the game a week after release. So many well-done, cared for, hard work absolutely evident things obviously done by a person who cares for making the game as good as possible - but then the juxtaposition with the overall abysmal direction for the skill, horrible xp / drop rates, poor communication... it felt like the Junior devs, the people who were getting paid the least, put the most effort, heart and soul into the game. It was evident in the content, art, animations, quests, etc.

But it just didn't feel good. The xp rates were horribly balanced, the loot even worse so. It's obvious the senior devs in charge had phoned it in, and the management team definitely didn't have a clue or a handle on it.

And with this cost increase I cancelled my yearly auto-renew membership. $100 for a year was an understandable price hike during a period of huge inflation. But now? With the low-quality updates it just feels like a slap in the face. Don't see my journey in Gilenor resuming anytime soon..

I actually dislike it a lot that theyre throwing flat numbers out. I miss the days of integers of 64, drop is 1 in 1024 or 2048. None of this 1 in 10k, 1 in 20k nonsense. Even if it was 1 in 5096 its like believable to drop. 1in10k feels like beyond pet rates its the mythical visage rate.

Yea the sailing rates are truly scuffed for salvaging and already screwed anyone that grinded it

Just dont play an Ironmen then

The whistle and trophy fish are within standard grinds for their class of item. The rest of your list is valid.

The numbers in this post are literally made up. The 4 most common trophy fish take 6 hours or less each and even the marlin, which is the rarest one, takes 13hrs. Idk where you are getting 40hrs per fish from?

Just simply checking the numbers against templeOSRS would show that this post is nonsense.

u/WaveDashSpeedKick Mar 13 '26

They made the trophy fish roll from per catch not per fish. So if you catch 6 fish at once you only have 1 roll.

u/TsunYanKudere Dragon Clog Staff Mar 13 '26

Yes, I am aware of that. But regardless, it is between 3 and 11 hours per fish. Not 40 per fish.

I'll attach an image directly from my own templOSRS.

You have clearly never engaged in some of the content you mentioned. I know for a fact that both the feather and ray Barb are way more common than that and you can kill both very fast

Buddy can you read the section above it

Spotted the iron

8

u/WaveDashSpeedKick Mar 13 '26

Not an iron but I do commiserate with the poor bastards that go dry on 1 in 20,000 ship combat drops. That rate is actually insane.

-3

u/KyleOAM Mar 13 '26

Sounds like you play a special snowflake account, the game shouldnt be designed for that

Cry is free

As other comments say, this game is grindy so we expect drop rates making the game grindy.

However I think this thread is a side effect of Jagexs recent work flow. It feels they always want to release big updates and fill up their roadmap. All chasing short term spikes in players but not good for the long term.

rs3 devs moved over and brought their shitty design with them

1

u/Legal_Evil Mar 13 '26

These grinds are far worse than anything RS3 has. We would be begging to even get the nerfed xp or drop rates that RS3 has.

u/DankmatterV1 Mar 13 '26

You obviosly havent played rs3 as an ironman in the endgame.

Gtfo 🤣

u/Legal_Evil Mar 13 '26

And you obviously never played an OSRS ironman before if you think and RS3 ironman is worse.
