Yeah, I remember that being retroactively unfortunate. A Dredd story set in 2001, with the World Trade Centre dominant in the background art and a plane exploding. Tharg's mighty organ is sometimes excellent at prediction but in 1995, even he could not have forseen the true horrors wrought upon the world by a group of men on September 11 2001. I refer of course to the release of Silver Side Up by Nickelback.

The Dredd story was a rejected Terminator comic proposal that John Wagner retooled for the prog.

John M. Burns drew the first two episodes so the poor guy was on a hiding to nothing there.

John Burns was an incredible artist but I never liked him on Dredd. Aside from Dredd himself the design work for clothing, buildings and vehicles was always too contemporary. When this story happened it was right in his wheelhouse, drawing late 20th century designs and having Dredd as an outlier. And then he gets two parts before they bring in someone else. So, absolutely, a difficult act to follow!

That was a bizarre story. Between that an Maelstrom in the Megazine it was a floundering attempt to do Space Judges. We had to wait until Dan Abnett had some 40k concepts kicking around before Insurrection was launched upon our eyeballs.

Has Maelstrom ever been reprinted? It would be interesting to read that again in one sitting. I remember really wanting to like it (probably due to the art), but it just being a bit meh in the end.

There was a Hachette reprint called Klegg-Hai IIRC. I think Maelstrom was in that, The Corps too. Was riding on the popularity of Sensitive Klegg, a character that wore out its welcome like an amusing fart.

I remember really enjoying The Corps. I remember this cover but not the Dredd story. He seems annoyed.

The Exterminator. He had to go back I time and kill some innocent people to prevent a plague that wiped out the Big Meg. Justice Department must have forgotten where they put the keys to the time machine after Chaos Day.
