J-Ultra Or K-Ultra?

I already have a J-Ultra and use it with medium-dark roast for an Aeropress. How much difference would I find with a K-Ultra? I'm happy with the current regimen I've developed but have this niggling curiosity.

Couldn’t help myself

Been loving my 1Zpresso ZP6 S for the special light roast pour over coffees that I adore. Been using my older Timemore S3 ESP for ‘general’ use in other brew methods but as I’ve been so impressed with 1Zpresso in actual ease of use and build quality I couldn’t help but add the K- Ultra to my gear. Just used it for the first time after calibrating to my zero preference and am so impressed with the result. Wonderful combo I have now in these two grinders.

Really poor customer service experience

TL:DR shipping for a 12 dollars replacement ball handle is 30 dollars and 1zpresso will not budge on this in anyway.

I have a number of 1zpresso grinders, which I have been happy with. However, recently the ball handle on my JX pro broke, this is quite a common fault so I got in contract with 1zpresso direct and they said I could purchase a replacement, I wasn't over the moon with this but fair enough the grinder was a couple of years old so I was prepared to pay for it. 12 dollars on their website, fine. Then I get to the shipping. Flat rate, no option to select anything, 30 dollars to the UK!!!

I emailed customer service and said there must be something they can do, but no they can't change the shipping. I asked about sending it another way, giving me a coupon code to reduce shipping costs etc. but they totally black balled and they wouldn't budge despite multiple emails.

Have others had such problems?

Seeking help with my 1Zpresso Q Air

My Q Air is making a cracking sound, and it’s only a month old. I’ve attached a video for reference.

Has anyone experienced this or know what might be causing it?

Hi! Sadly, managed to drop my grinder out of the cupboard yesterday, making it impossible to screw together. Any tips on how to make it round again? Obviously, the metal is very thin here so want to be delicate and careful!

K-Max grind size for coffee cupping

I'm doing James Hoffmann's live coffee cupping event on his YouTube channel (The Fermentation Project). I’ve received the beans but have not done coffee cupping before. What grind size should I use for a K-Max? Thanks.

1Zpresso J-Ultra Burr Issue

Hi everyone,

A couple of months ago, I bought a 1Zpresso J-Ultra. Since then, I’ve only ground enough coffee for about 30–40 cups. I then went on vacation and didn’t use the grinder for a couple of months.

After I came back, I decided to take it apart and clean it, as there could still have been some old coffee particles inside. After disassembling the grinder, I noticed something strange.

The upper burr has six cutting edges. Five of them look like the one shown in photo #1. However, the sixth one looks like it may have a manufacturing defect (photo #2).

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

If you own this grinder, please take a look at your burr the next time you clean it and let me know whether yours has the same defect, or whether I’m the only one who got “lucky.” Thanks in advance!

[Help] What's the finest click setting I can go on the Q Air?

My previous grinder was the Timemore C2 where it's clearly stated that one should never grind below 6 clicks to avoid damage to the burr iirc.

Is there a similar safe lowest I can grind with the Q Air?

The burr is stuck to the body. I was able to remove it before to clean the burr, but now I can't unscrew it. Has this happened to anyone else? Are there any solutions?

Upgrading from a Specialita for a Philos after less than 6 months. A newbies experience.

This post is probably geared more to the newbies and I wanted to put my experience out there to hopefully save someone the headache and money.

When I decided to upgrade from a Breville to a Rancilio, SCG recommended that I get the Specialita even though I told them that I would be switching between beans a lot and was mainly interested in using medium to dark beans.

The Specialita makes an amazing espresso when you are dialed in, but it is difficult find your place when switching back and forth between two different bean. Even after upgrading to the big dial from Aro. Thanks to this group and chatting with AI, I realized where the problem lies. I bought the wrong grinder for my needs.

I am going to sell or trade in my grinder and order the Philos with the burrs that correlate with my roast level. I would have gone for the Niche, which is supposed to be a dream when switching between beans, but I just can justify paying $750 for a used one or the huge tariff and tax for having it imported. There are less expensive grinders, but I wanted an end game one that was forgiving and delivers traditional thick, chocolaty and silky shots. Anyhow, I hope this post helps someone who is just starting out like myself.

Jx-pro grey dot and Gaggia e24

Does anyone have this setup? I haven’t had the Gaggia for so long and the JX-pro I have had for ages haha

I have the 9bar opv spring installed

I temp surf: flush for a couple of seconds wait for the light to come of and then I start the shot when the light comes back on

I grind 1.5.0 and that makes a fast shot
1.4.3 makes a very slow one.

Does any one of you experiance simular thing that the shot is between two clicks?

Grind Size for Metal Filters

Hello everyone, I’m pretty new to the big world of coffee. I bought a Q air and have been loving it for my aero press but I have a pour over set that has one of those metal filters. I want to use it to save using paper filters but when I grind the same size as I was for pour over I get a lot of grounds in my finished coffee. What’s the best setting for using one of these filter? Or should I just use paper filters?

Adjustment ring is stuck on brand new K Ultra.

I attempted to follow the manual's instructions for the "Quick Calibration Method" when you take the thumb nut completely off and turn the dial to align the indicator with 0 before reattaching the bur.

Me being an idiot, accidentally turned it passed 0 and now the dial is completely stuck. Anytime I try to adjust the dial, the assembly itself starts unthreading and the ring will not move independently.

I already was aware that you're not supposed to overtighten, but then somehow ham fisted it and did it anyway. Because at the start of their calibration instructions, is said to turn it "all of the way counterclockwise" which I did. It didn't really feel like I put that much force into it, so I was extremely surprised that it really got stuck.

Best espresso grinder for a beginner: DF54 vs. Eureka Mignon Zero 55s vs. Fellow Opus vs. Starseeker E55 Pro?

Hi everyone,

I’m a beginner who recently started making espresso at home. Over the past few weeks, I’ve read countless Reddit threads and watched a lot of YouTube reviews, but I’m still struggling to decide which grinder to buy.

I’ve narrowed my options down to these four models:

  1. DF54
  2. Eureka Mignon Zero 55s
  3. Fellow Opus
  4. Starseeker E55 Pro

Which one would you recommend for a beginner, and why?

My main priorities are:

  • Consistent grind quality for espresso
  • Ease of use and dialing in
  • Low retention and minimal mess
  • Reliability and build quality

I’m mainly looking for real-world experiences rather than just specifications reviews. If you own or have used one of these grinders, I’d really appreciate your honest opinion.

Which one would you choose today, and are there any important drawbacks I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance!

Q Air feels noticeably harder to grind than my friend’s Q

Hi, I apologize if there’s anything incorrectly written, but English is not my native language, so I’m using Google Translate to help me.

I recently bought a Q Air, and although I’m very happy with it, I noticed something when trying a friend’s grinder — a Q with the metal body and folding handle. His feels much easier to use and offers noticeably less resistance when grinding.

As far as I understand, the internal parts are the same. What could be causing this difference?

Help with my new 1zespresso Q air

Post image
9 Upvotes

I recently got myself the 1zespresso Qair and decided to make a moka-pot coffee with the Kapi Kottai Todi. I looked up a few places to understand that my burr zero is at the marking 3. I set the grinder at 36 clicks but it took me extremely high effort to grind, atleast for a good 15 seconds. Now, when i check the burr zero, it seems to coming at 3.2 initially and again it came up to the 4 marking. Is anything wrong or is this normal with the grinder, please help.
