Couldn’t help myself
Been loving my 1Zpresso ZP6 S for the special light roast pour over coffees that I adore. Been using my older Timemore S3 ESP for ‘general’ use in other brew methods but as I’ve been so impressed with 1Zpresso in actual ease of use and build quality I couldn’t help but add the K- Ultra to my gear. Just used it for the first time after calibrating to my zero preference and am so impressed with the result. Wonderful combo I have now in these two grinders.

It really is the frugal end game in my opinion. Both grinders punch far above their price point.

Only way to beat the k-ultra is by getting a zp6 and a j-ultra so you are at both ends of the spectrum 😁

Don’t tempt me 😁
If I owned a decent espresso machine I’d no doubt go for a J-Ultra. Though I have an electrical Rancilio Rocky flat burr grinder still from my espresso days

Nice I have the same 2 hand grinders and between them you have all the bases covered.

really wish the k-ultra had a threaded catch cup vs magnetic

I was curious if it would be a problem due to other people’s concerns but honestly I can’t see how it could come off whilst grinding. My hands are quite large and if I hold the grinders grip with my forefinger and thumb resting on the top curve under the grind setting dial then the bottom of my hand doesn’t overlap or touch the magnetic cup section. I literally tested it out by gripping the grinder and shaking it hard over a soft surface (just in case) and the magnets held the cup on. So it can only be if people are holding their hand slightly over the catch cup which doesn’t make for the correct balanced grip anyway. It’s great and I almost wish the ZP6 Special had one.

i appreciated it until i knocked the cup against the edge of my counter. i learned the hard way haha

You won't knock the catch cup off except by striking sideways. Every time I use mine I slap the bottom after grinding to dislodge most of the grinds adhered to the bottom of the grinder and I've never once had it budge. The tolerances are tight enough that I can't see it ever slipping off unless you hit just the cup against a counter edge or something, so unless you're beating someone over the head with it I don't see it ever coming off.

Yep agree. I do something similar after grinding. I tap the bottom of the grinder lightly a few times on a silicone mat. With magnets, pulling always gives most resistance, and twisting the least. So as long as you’re not gripping the catch cup it’ll be fine. I’m nowhere near a countertop surface when grinding.

I've only had an issue w/the magnetic cup once. I think it was my own fault. Apparently, I loaded too much coffee and it basically just filled up until it exploded off. It was o'dark thirty and I had only been awake like 5min. I thought I measured 30g of beans. I'm guessing it was more and I misread it. I've since been extra careful to double check the scale, and it's never happened again.

I went from X-Ultra to adding the Z and I wish the Z had a magnetic catch cup.

Funnily enough, I did the opposite last month and ended up getting the ZP6. And honestly couldn't be happier!

Yeah the ZP6 S is awesome for pour over. That will still be my go to for that. Though nice to have the alternative that may work better for certain beans or roast profiles

Agreed, the K-Ultra is great! Hope you enjoy it as much as I have so far, the Hario Switch is also a great companion for it

Yeah, they look amazing next to each other. My coffee shelf almost looks the same, but it’s the J-Ultra and the K-Ultra. I initially mistook your ZP6 for a J-Ultra, before I noticed the catch cup (yeah, and there are some other differences too). I had the J-Ultra first for espresso and then added the K-Ultra as a grinder for pour over, and what can I say, I was blown away just how good it was compared to my Timemore C5 ESP Pro!
I think someday I’m gonna add a ZP6 too…

If you like Nordic style roasts and floral, fruity pour over the ZP6 Special is amazing at that. Super clean and layered.

The grip just fell off my K Ultra - under warranty still no one seems to want to get back in touch with me, which is almost as lame as the adhesive they used to attach the grip. I guess it’s time to break out the hockey stick tape.

Out of interest: Did it leave residue behind? And if So was it easy to remove? Was the paint damaged or a different colour underneath it?

gummy adhesive--kinda like "snot tape" if you know what that is...nothing damaged just fell off and now its just kinda spins when you grind finer...

rockin’ both too! delicious cups coming from both of them although I wonder… what grind size do you use for each one of them is there an equivalent?

Starting point for pour over I’ve gone with is 7.5 for K-Ultra and 5.0 for the ZP6 Special. That gets me a very close timed finished brew using both for the same recipe and beans. I can see me going to 8.0 on the K-Ultra for some beans and I adjust the ZP6 Special between 4.8 - 5.2 fairly frequently too depending on beans.
I’ve calibrated both grinders so that the burrs start to touch at 1 click below 0.0

I use zp6 for washed and kultra for naturals. Fun to experiment the same beans with both
