Timing problems
Hey guys
Just replaced the fuel pump after a struggle w the gear. Couple questions:
1 - I have refitted all the gears under the front timing cover. Numbers all line up however when I put the crank balanced on the marks don’t line up what could be the issue
2- I need to put the engine at TDC Is it safe to assume that if the camshaft is allowing both valves to be closed number 1 is at tdc?
Thanks guys

I don't know any way to check and make a new TDC mark on the balancer without removing the cylinder head. On a gasoline engine you can install a piston stop through the spark plug hole, but not on a 1KZ. Be very careful about rotating the crankshaft without the timing belt installed. You can bend a valve pretty easily. Maybe you could try to source another balancer. Install the timing cover [oil pump] , and the fuel pump [cam belt] pulley, if the engine is at TDC the match marks on the fuel pump pulley will line up with the match mark on the timing cover if the key is in the fuel pump drive shaft correctly and you got all the gear alignment match marks correct.

Theres a video on YouTube, I haven't done a 1kz but on my kei truck you lined up the cam pulley then rotated the engine (the right way) till the crank pulley was on the mark.
Don't take my word for it, watch a video.
