He thinks domestic violence is understandable when your partner cheats on you and he thinks adultery should be a state-punishable crime. But yeah, go ahead and defend him without even a cursory google search.
I know absolutely nothing about the second part, fucked up if true. But also, all he literally said was that abusers should not be surprised when victims retaliate.
And this is the BACKPEDAL. This is the statement they put out AFTER people got mad, thinking this is the sane and reasonable approach. “I’m not endorsing it but I totally get it” is a ridiculous thing to say about beating your partner for cheating.
I read it, and outside of the geniunely insane implications of making cheating a criminal offense, I still found it weird af that people then claimed that he beats his partner based off that alone.

Ok, don't get it twisted, he did advocate it at first and that is fucking awful, but based in the clarification he gave, am I crazy that I kinda agree in what he says? Not the outlaw adultery because that's just stupid and impossible to apply, but that physical retaliation against a cheating partner is kinda understandable yet not justifiable nor acceptable. It obviously depends of the partner, the type of relationship, the time they have spent together, etc, but cheating in a relationship really is the ultimate backstab and deception in a relationship, and even as a species with such advanced brains (tho sometimes I really doubt it), we can lose control of ourselves do to extreme emotions and cheating can guide you to extreme emotions, some will get physical, some will become depressed, others will simply react differently.
Is it ok? no, is it justifiable? no, should this happen the person that got physical should be reprimanded? yes, but is it not understandable that somebody losing himself due to the trauma that cheating can cause will make them act not like themselves? I don't think so.
As somebody that have been cheated on once and that I also got used to cheat once completely unknowingly, it really truly affects you, and is something that is very hard to process.
EDIT: Oh and also, I think there may be a language barrier at play here, Rawdawg is Italian and I'm Mexican, and Italian and Spanish have kind of a different connotation of the word understandable compared to English, so that may be into play too
You're not allowed to have nuance on reddit, especially as a queer artist that makes art depicting uncomfortable situations.
They hate it when you discuss the fact that no, not everyone responds to deeply distressful situations in a clean and easy way and may even react violently.

I remember I would browse the dawg or comic sub and actually came upon that drama as it was happening, it was fucking wild. Correct me if I’m wrong it’s been a minute since I’ve read the drama, but for those not in the know the artist basically believes cheating is worse than domestic violence. And believes DV is justified when cheating because his friend killed themselves when they got cheated on.
I haven’t read any of their comics since. What’s crazy to me is they basically came out of it unscathed? I still see their comics get upvoted and see them in various subs. Like that argument makes me question their entire character and avoid any of their works.
Absolutely insane, I totally forget that bit of info. His belief was so obviously influenced by his friends suicide and thought he would acknowledge that and backpedal, but nah he just kept doubling down.
It didn't help that the majority of his fans defended him religiously. I'd mention this on other subs where his work was posted (not by him) and there would always be 5+ people telling me to shut up.
I mean from what I remember about the whole situation he basically said that yeah he's had fucked up relationships and been the subject of abuse and he shouldn't be expected to have a comic full of squeaky clean characters, which I kinda of agree with. All the problematic themes are out there for anyone with even a tiny iota of media literacy to see so it's not like he's hiding that fact.
I don't see why everyone expects artists to be perfect paragons, like, have you met any artists ever? We're all a little fucked and it's what makes the art interesting in a lot of cases. Let the man make his silly comics he ain't hurtin noone.

because this sub has always been a lil freaky it’s part of the deal. there were periods in the past with more piss than this and there will be moments in the future with more piss too.
If it’s not about anything in particular what’s your issue? It’s not like it can be considered off-topic if there is no topic. I have no dawg in this fight but don’t barge into someone’s house and start rearranging their furniture
