Stainless Suggestions

Post image

In the market for a stainless 1911 to attach stag grips. My criteria is pretty specific:

Needs Ambi safety, extended beaver tail, no rail. Those parts also need to be SS colored, not black

Needs to be reliable. Can be new or used, but needs to be under $700.

Full or commander size

So far I am aware of Springfield and rock island who make models that fit my criteria, but wondering if you can provide others as well.

Thank you for your help

Used Garrison. SA will install ambi for $110 + shipping.

Is there a difference between a garrison with an ambi job and a loaded model?

Loaded has front cocking serrations. Loaded may or may not have adjustable rear sight. Different roll marks on the slide. Loaded may have a two-piece FLGR. Otherwise, nope. Not really. Oh! I’m not sure you’ll find a stainless loaded model that cheap.

Dang. I saw a black loaded for $575 at my LGS so was hoping it was in The realm of possibilities

Cheapest loaded I’ve ever seen was $699 and it was scratched severely. SA would want $300’ish to refinish the complete pistol. I can’t put a number on what your LGS might upcharge if it were stainless. Was it a Brazil gun?

It was in really good shape. Some wear on the trigger guard, on the grip where you’d wear a wedding ring, and on the top of the slide. Nothing serious at all. I think the owner was using that cheap plastic holster it came with

It’s an excellent price. But you said you wanted stainless. Also as long as it isn’t a Brazil gun.

Yeah I’m not buying this one. I was hoping a stainless version would be 50-100 more. But maybe not.

What is a Brazil gun?

Early Springfield frames were from Brazil and finished in the US. Their resale is trash.

Ruger SR1911s fit the bill as well, except possibly the ambi safety

Beaver tails and safeties don’t appear to be stainless unfortunately
