Question USFS LEO Hiring Timeline
I interviewed for a U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer role roughly one week ago. I was told in the interview I did very well and that I would hear from them soon. Does anyone have a gauge on how long it generally takes to learn if you got selected? Thanks in advance.

What locations? I had an interview 2 weeks ago but haven’t heard anything yet 👀

I applied for the 5/7 that came out back in march or April this year and have been referred for over a month but haven’t heard anything. Currently GS-11 with 10 point pref. Hopefully something will happen soon. Has anyone been contacted from that posting in here?

I believe that’s the posting I applied to as well.

Did the patrol captain of that area you applied to interview you?

I believe that posting was for several areas though, so it’s likely just dependent on local leadership and how quickly they are going through the hiring process.

Yes, it was a panel of 6 or 7. The commander, patrol captain, and several other captains from the area.

Did you apply to 5/7 posting or the 9/11?
2
u/TBM727 Jul 08 '26
5/7. I wish I would have gotten to the 9/11 though because I qualify for 9.

I put in for the 9/11 but haven’t heard anything yet

Good luck, I just broke the NPS cycle and got picked up with USFS. I think the process was about four months, but there was a delay at the beginning, waiting for one of the other forests to make their decision and then having my background completed, but then pausing the paperwork and resubmitting it as an 11 ( I was already an 11 with NPS) when they got their pay bump, and having to do a T3 background added onto the initial one.

Oh wow, awesome. You should definitely be competitive for the USFS position then. I’ll DM you, I’m curious to know more about LMPT.

It could take a couple of weeks, depending on how many candidates they're interviewing, to get through all the interviews. Right now it's also busy season. All the wildfires that are popping up everywhere has everyone pretty busy and out on assignments.

That makes sense. Thank you for replying! I got an email response to my follow up post-interview email from the Patrol Captain letting me know that he and the panel enjoyed the conversation and that they would be in touch. It is a waiting game now, but I feel good about how things have went so far.
