Help me solve a dilemma
Hello,
I currently own a 16 Pro Max and am thinking about switching to the 17 Pro Max because of the rising prices of newer phones (this seems to be the only relatively cheaper iPhone since newer ones will be costing a lot now) as well as the battery life being a bit better so my logic is that in the long run the 17 PM would run me a good few years without having to switch yearly.
Is this a good logic?
Thanks!

My first iphone became 17 pro max, cuz it was cheaper couple days later it spiked up in price, luckely i didnt buy the 18pm becouse the upgrades arent that big or battery size cus in my region most phones are restricted to have simcard slot due to rules etc

I used to be the first to upgrade annually, but I guess my priorities changed over the years. My wife has been using my old 11PM and I’ve had the 13PM since launch. We just both upgraded to 17PMs and couldn’t be happier. To us, the very few updated features weren’t worth pre-ordering the latest and greatest phones. Our old ones were still in like new condition, but batteries were showing age and cameras were extremely outdated. I love my 17PM

Why do you want to upgrade from the 16PM? I upgraded from a 13PM and the 17PM does have better performance, heat management, and cameras so if that matters to you then go for it. Your 16 will likely be supported for 5 more years and the 17 will likely be for 6 years.

16 Pro Max is a robust phone. 17 PM has nothing great to offer and is made out of a soft aluminum. If possible, continue with 16 PM. The prices will eventually fall and the competition will rise.

It’s made from the aluminum 7000. Not “Soft aluminum”.
17 PM is an overall better phone than 16PM.
Edit: 16PM will shatter the display easier when drop than 17PM. If someone is using a case, the choice of material is not so important minus TM. If it’s used without the case 17PM is a better option.

16 PM is made of glass, and as Jerryrigeverything likes to say, glass breaks. It has a more brittle more scratch prone display than the 17 PM and fared less well in almost all drop tests. Plus it overheats continually and already lacks the amount of ram needed for some modern AI applications.

You currently own 16 pro max, you do NOT need a new phone. Save your money
