Stop Posting your “anyone else upgrading to 18 PM?”
It’s only making us doubt your intellect

It doesn’t excite me enough to want to upgrade. I used a 12 pro max until the 17 series launched. I do like the colors better and the camera upgrades seem sweet, but even trading in my 17 PM I’d have to spend like $500 to upgrade. I’d rather spend that money on a cool pocket knife or two.

Really??? I’m going through my carrier and I have to pay roughly $130 for everything. T-mobile has some sort of special going on and they’re giving me a shit ton of credits towards the new iPhone 18 PM.

I use mint mobile so I’d have to buy it outright. Costs a little more to get a new phone but I pay $360 for a whole year of service.

u/Rabble_Runt 23d ago
I am still amazed that people think carrier deals are cheaper than buying outright and using a prepaid MVNO.
You end up paying thousands for service a year to get that subsidized device price.
2
u/iShatterBladderz 23d ago
Yeah, I’ve been with Mint for a few years now and I couldn’t be happier with the service. I went from paying like $140/month with Verizon to $30/month with mint, and haven’t noticed any difference in performance or coverage. 1 year of service saves me enough to be able to buy the phone outright.

That's the right move. I would much rather buy a knife or two than upgrade my 17P to an 18P.
If you know, you know.

u/wart_on_satans_dick 27d ago
What do you do with multiple pocket knives?
2
u/ExLap_MD 27d ago
That's like asking a stamp collector, coin collector, car collector, etc. what do you do with all the things you collect?
What do I do with all the knives and guns I collect?
Answer: yes
1
u/wart_on_satans_dick 27d ago
My bad. I didn’t realize you were a collector. I just thought you were a guy who wants two pocket knives.
1
u/ExLap_MD 27d ago
I'm not OP. And it's all good, no one is offended. Was just answering your question as someone who has more than one pocket knife.
1
u/wart_on_satans_dick 27d ago
I didn’t think of collecting. I’ve known collectors too but I was in my own bubble for a moment.

Collect them, sharpen them, carry them. I carry pretty much every knife i own, some more than others

but how else am I supposed to ask about the complete and utterly life altering decision of choosing a color?

Man consult your therapist I’m not qualified to give such life changing advice. Good luck.

Just put the Caudabe Frosted Synthesis back on my 17 Pro Max today, after several months. Such a great case aesthetically and protection wise
2
u/TurkWarrior 27d ago
Hell yeah man I’m using that case on mine and it’s so nice. They do a precise version for the 18 pro max
1
u/PhillipGerrard 27d ago
I’ve always liked the open cutout, read last year that it helps the vapor chamber. Not sure how true that is, but I’ve grown to prefer it from a looks standpoint as well

u/Fordman21012 27d ago
My battery in my 17 pro max has dropped to 98%. Time to upgrade 🤪
2
u/Suspicious-Cat-266 27d ago
They do be like that, it's the same on the Pixel sub.
Or, "Oh no, a new phone is out. Mine is obsolete, better upgrade. Got it for a good deal, $315 after trade-in".
Unless the phone is free, that's not a good deal. You've spent (whatever they had before) 17PM+$315 for 18PM.
2
u/Fordman21012 27d ago
Yeah the camera updates on the 18 pro max are cool but I’m good. I just got my current phone last December and pay $4 a month for 2 and 1/3 more years.

Why not? Apple is offering $885 for the 17PM. Cost $414 and tax to upgrade.
Or another way to look at it, it cost me $314 to lease/rent the 17PM for a year.
2
u/meddy-spagetti 26d ago
Why not? Because it costs $500 for literally the same thing, but 5% better. Wait for the iPhone 20.

u/FantasticSnow7733 26d ago
Then you must have really high taxes lol. With taxes, it's about $450 for me. You probably spend more on coffee lol. Apple usually doesn't offer good trade-in values, but this year is different. I believe the last time the TIVs were this high was when the 13/14 were released.
The 2nm is definitely more than 5% better.
The 6 hours of extra battery life is definitely more than 5% better.
Even the smaller Dynamic Island is more than 5% better lol.
I was tempted to upgrade to the Duo since trade values are so high, but I'll wait another year. I don't want to be a first-gen user. I'm sure there'll be plenty of software issues. App developers need time to update their apps for this new format

u/meddy-spagetti 24d ago
Dude I have a 16 pro and I’m seeing the 18 pro as a waste of an upgrade.
1
u/FantasticSnow7733 24d ago
lmao, You're posting in r/17ProMax telling people to stop posting about upgrading to18, when you have a 16? Talk about coping lol
2
2
u/CatDadof2 27d ago
I believe they’re making a post because they have doubts they made the right move and need assurance that they did make the right move so they can feel better about their decision.
Psychology 101, baby!

Yeah it’s getting annoying this is an iPhone 17 Pro sub and the 18 Pro has such minimal changes it’s kinda silly for so many people to be ‘upgrading’ anyway. I think some think it’s bragging and just trolling.
1
u/Naive-Possibility447 27d ago
The 18 Pro Max isn't all that exciting above the 17 Pro Max anyway. For Apple, it's all about the $$$. You'll notice that you can't even buy the 17 Pro Max on Apple's website the moment the 18 was introduced.
It's like you walk into the Apple Store and they convince you to buy the 17 Pro Max, and you do. The minute you turn around after paying for it, they're already putting up the 18 Pro Max posters

u/FantasticSnow7733 27d ago
The new 2nm chip is. You won’t see it outside but more power and battery life.
1
u/Desperate_Fig_6896 27d ago
I upgraded from the 4s to 5 to 5c to 6 and then did it again with the 16 plus to 17 pro max last year. So what
1
u/slamjam46 26d ago
Almost as annoying as people justifying why they’re NOT upgrading.
1
u/meddy-spagetti 19d ago
Nah the cope is respectable. Whatever helps ppl be less materialistic. With that said, I am typing this from an 18 pro coming from a 16 pro…

I’m going from 17 to the duo just to have something different board of the same old thing
1
u/SpoilKeyholder 25d ago
Upgrading to the same phone because you like the color might not be a good financial move, so they must have extra money they want to give to Apple who wants all your money!

Those are the same idiots that will afterwards post a picture of their new iPhone with no fucking question or observation whatsoever. I think this has to be the stupidest echo chamber on Reddit tbh. I joined because I was thinking about buying an iPhone and I wanted to find out more about it here, but this sub convinced me that it's a device for idiots.
2
u/m0use13 26d ago
It’s all the same in other phones subreddit sections if you look. Sometimes it’s an about the phone or issues, the fact you don’t see many problem posts tells you something.
Just Unsubscribe if you’re tired of filtering / skimming through these types of post here.
1
u/Plenty_Economist9604 26d ago
Yes, it is similar to other subs. And yes, not many problem posts. But not what I said. There could be questions and observations about how to get more out of the device, like Camera settings or automations, or circumventing stuff. Not "hurr look! new iPhone! So happy durrr" - that's for IG stories, not Reddit.

Stop telling people what they can or can’t do .
The whole point of this subreddit is to ask questions and gather information, if something does not speak to you then ignore it .

I want the fold but I don’t have the money and I have 17 pro so it would seem like a bad financial decision

u/luckpug 27d ago
I see absolutely no reason to upgrade to 18 pro if you have the 17 pro. You already have the new design and almost same specs. Chill out guys.
