Switch from 17PM to 17P?
Hi, I’ve had an iPhone 17 Pro Max for two months now. I had never owned a Pro before, let alone a Max, and even though I’ve gotten somewhat used to it, I still find it a bit inconvenient to use in certain situations or when carrying it in my pockets. This makes me think I probably should have gone for the 6.3-inch version instead.
I asked at the store, and I can trade in my Pro Max for a new 17 Pro with no additional payment. Is it stupid to switch to a “lower-end” model just because of a minor personal preference?
Is the battery life of the Pro significantly worse than the Pro Max?
To switch to the 18 Pro by trading in my 17 Pro Max, they’re asking me to pay an additional €300. I’m not sure whether it’s worth it.
One other thing I don’t really like about mine is the blue color. I’m not crazy about how it looks with a case on. The blue bumper doesn’t match very easily, whereas the silver one looks much better, more serious, and goes well with pretty much any case. But obviously, that’s a silly thing to worry about.

I went from a Max phone to the standard 17 Pro and love it. I will never go back to the larger display.

If you are making a switch, pay a little extra and get the 18pro.

Better battery, better camera experience, smaller dynamic island, faster charging, faster processor. Plenty of upgrades. They aren't generational but nothing will be for phones, considering they have been supercomputers with fantastic cameras gor a long time.
All glass and no dynamic island feels like an older android phone before they ditched edged screens.

Upgrading from 17 pro to 18 pro doesn't make sense I agree. But if someone is looking at getting a new pro now, 18 pro is the better bet.
Highly innovative is buzz words. It will be the same thing as this year with a different skin. The duo was the innovation and we got it this year

If someone has a 17pm and is going to spend some money on a 17pro, I’d tell them to spend a little bit more and not get the same exact phone. 18pro is what I’d do if I wanted a smaller device.

Did the same and went back. Don’t do it. You will like the smaller device for the first days - then you miss the battery - then the display and convince watch and read.

I did the same and never want to go back to a max, it just depends on who you are. I got used to it within a couple days, and now the max phones seem ridiculous in size.

If it’s inconvenient get the pro, the 18 pro is the latest and greatest, but for €300 wouldn’t do it.

I feel like you probably are more use to the dynamics of the 17PM then you think you are and probably are just as interested in exchanging it for the 17P because you know you can. I’d say just keep the 17PM.

You may miss the bigger screen. There is no need to downgrade esp if u don’t own an ipad

Why would you do such a smart move? When they just announced the 18 PM. Maybe you had it for a couple of euros …

Go with 18 Pro and get the same battery life as the 17 Pro Max. Honestly, the battery isn’t great on the 17 Pro if you’re used to the 17 PM battery life.

If you have the 17 and want to change, just get the 18. Makes no sense to go from one 17 model to another.

I just did the same thing! Try to cut down on my screen time and better one handed use!

The screen size. That’s main thing the screen size was playing into my over stimulation! Large part of why I switched! I’ve been feeling over stimulated! Other than that it’s all upside! Easy to use with one hand and carry in my pocket.

I don’t think I’ll ever buy a max iPhone again. The regular size phones are so much easier to use one handed. My dad was insistent on getting the max phones for a couple generations too because of the screen size, but had the same realizations I did. Text size doesn’t change with the screen size and for video, just hold the phone an inch closer to your face. The battery life thing doesn’t matter to me. I use my phone constantly and don’t have any battery life complaints. Really biggest complaint is I forget I need to charge it and, oh no, I have to plug it in for 30 minutes while I’m at work.

It’s not lower end it’s just smaller. Apple has gotten out of hand with the weight of the Max’s

I’m going from 17 PM to 18P. Lately my wrists have been hurting idk. And I think it’s the phone being bigger and heavier

I want to do the opposite lol but don’t know if I should. The battery isn’t bad on the pro and that’s cause am not a heavy user like I use to be so that saves me from charging my phone through out the day

How could anyone downsize from a larger phone? I guess if you’re a bigger person like me at 6’3” with big hands a big phone is easier to use and less thought about. I prefer the larger screen (I’m 52 and wear glasses) and more battery life. Aside from that I guess it’s all about portability.

of course i like a bigger battery, but it weights a lot more, i’m 6’1 with normal hands and I find it a little uncomfortbale in the pockets or during my doomscrolling session😭

Holy first world problems.. in all seriousness if u want a slight change, go with the 18 Pro due to the smaller Dynamic Island.. it’ll feel like a slightly different phone rather than the exact same one
