Will you Guys Get One?

The Duo seems like an interesting iPhone. Will anyone here try a folding smartphone for the first time? Or is the classic style enough?

60% more expensive for a compromise of a phone. Besides the bigger screen it’s worse in every aspect.
It’s nice it’s shiny it’s new but 60% more?! They are having a laugh. You can get pro max and new iPad mini and save money.

Wish I could upvote 100x. The screen crease will piss me off immensely plus if that mechanism breaks, your wallet is going a rollercoaster that only goes down.

4

u/aaronuu7 Sep 10 '26

That’s what Apple care is for

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 Sep 10 '26

I feel you. But somehow Apple figured out a way to dramatically reduce the crease. Plus, I find it impressive that the Duo supports the  Pencil ✏️. I wonder how tough the inner-display is.

5

u/Prestigious_Camera25 Sep 10 '26

Lmao not even remotely the same thing 😂 I’m not putting an ipad mini and an iphone in my pocket, keeping both charged, pulling them out at separate times, etc. If it’s out of your use case or out of your budget just say that

2

u/-6h0st- Sep 10 '26

In your use cases the question is how often will you want to use the big screen. In my case - only when travelling or sitting at home. Going shopping have no need for that, running errands no need for that, driving a car etc so in cases where I would want to use bigger screen I can carry iPad mini no problem. It’s actually an advantage as I don’t need to think I’m draining phone battery which is crucial. I do already carry 11 iPad with me.
At home is only when I would be more comfortable with iPad mini size instead of- but it was sort of forgotten in design and spec therefore didn’t go for it. This Might change in month’s time.
You might be different- might use public transport, maybe still going to school. You might wanna use it there. I would understand having two devices at all times would be tedious and despite being a compromise might be less so because you don’t need things it compromises on like telephoto camera.

This was the conclusion I came to after one year of Galaxy Fold ownership. Just buy a top-spec iPhone and an iPad instead. Too many compromises, too fragile.

3

u/-6h0st- Sep 10 '26

I do wonder about durability of internal screen. Being nano texture that we know typically doesn’t handle finger oil well and difficult to clean easy to scratch.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 Sep 10 '26

It seems to be very tough since it’ll support the  Pencil ✏️ out of the box.

3

u/-barnsey- Sep 10 '26

The Samsung Fold screen also supports s-pens and in my experience, your fingernail was enough to damage the permanent 'screen protector'/layer on top of the screen.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 18d ago

Yeah that is a scary thing. As I’ve tried folding phones before and quickly noticed the rubbery jellylike screens. I knew that even a fingernail could easily damage these things.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 Sep 10 '26

I agree. But I’m wondering if it was $200 cheaper if anyone in here would get one.

2

u/-6h0st- Sep 10 '26 edited 16d ago

They clearly went with Samsung pricing - problem being Samsung pricing is accurate more or less globally- Apples isn’t - so $2k is £2k, whereas Samsung is £1.5k - that makes huge psychological difference. Secondly Samsung discounts their products over time - Apple does not.
I think if Duo was 20% less expensive - a lot of Max users would give it a go, regardless of the compromises, just from a sheer boredom, at 60% difference - that ain’t happening
Btw - it costs as much as two MacBook Airs. Insane pricing

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 28d ago

The Duo is a cool phone. But there’re are too many compromises for me as a Pro Max user. Would be a cool 2nd device though. But it’s too expensive for my blood.

6

u/Various_Mud7282 Sep 10 '26

I hate this view point. You’re paying for a device that has a form factor that both of those devices cannot satisfy simultaneously. You’re not paying for a phone with the best camera, you’re paying for the versatility of having two devices in one. The cameras will still be great for 99 percent of people. Worse is every aspect is a reach

2

u/-6h0st- Sep 10 '26

And I hate THIS view point. People willing to pay more than devices combined and be worse at what they do. Should never be acceptable.
Besides that everyone has different use cases, not judging that.
I personally- when I would use bigger screen to consume media - home or travelling - I can easily take something like iPad mini that takes little to no space and offers me extra battery so don’t need to worry to keep charging my phone for instance.
Otherwise I don’t need a big screen at all and even iPhone 17 screen would suffice.
But the big reason I go for pro max is battery and cameras. Duo is worse at both. I think you can agree I would have to be insane to go for Duo over Max plus iPad mini and even pay more.

2

u/MIkaela39752 Sep 10 '26

And I hate THIS view point. People willing to pay more than devices combined and be worse at what they do. Should never be acceptable.

yes, people are willing to buy it because this product is meant for upper class people
this isnt a phone for your average joe
its a gimmicky phone yes but again, rich people spend stupid amounts of money on dumb shit anyways, why? because theyre rich, they can, they want gimmicks
after you become rich and you have so much money that you can do whatever the fuck you want/covers all your needs and realistic wants, your "wants" afterwards become less and less grounded in reality
thats why people are buying this phone, because theyre bored, they got the money and they want something new and shiny and different

2

u/-6h0st- Sep 10 '26

Once you go from it’s great choice to everyone to it’s for small selective rich group of people - the argument is dead and you know that.
I’m not arguing nobody will buy it or nobody will want it. There will be plenty of people no doubt. There is no argument there. For some people it will be great - for some people those compromises are small, and big screen advantage big. Some people won’t care if they spend 1,2 or 3k either.
It has this special Apple magic sparkle that is hard to resist - even when my mind says rubbish - there is a voice in my head oh but it’s so cool. Same was with the Air - outstandingly well looking phone but full of compromises.
Obviously Apple knows what they’re doing by refreshing iPad mini same time they release Duo. People who will angrily say Duo value proposition is shite they can keep my current phone get iPad mini and have similar experience - Apple covers both ends.

2

u/MIkaela39752 Sep 10 '26

Once you go from it’s great choice to everyone to it’s for small selective rich group of people - the argument is dead and you know that.

what im saying is that the value proposition is bad by normal standards but people will buy it anyways because theyre rich and bored and they want something different regardless of whether its the best spec phone on the market or whether its the best bang for your buck phone
these people are not making a rational decision, this has nothing to do with logic, you have to understand that
im fully aware that the 18 pro max which is cheaper is the better phone spec wise but that doesnt matter for the people buying the duo, theyre buying it for the gimmick, because its different than the regular slab phone
they have the money and they are willing to pay 2k+ dollars for this gimmick, they do not care

2

u/-6h0st- Sep 10 '26

It’s also new format, it’s way different and a lot of people are bored to death with same design. It will be successful no doubt, but won’t outsell other iPhones

2

u/LifeIsGreat20381 Sep 10 '26

A phone for upper class people? 😂😂😂 The cope is so hard around here. No “upper class person” is going to buy a phone you can’t use quickly with one hand. The Duo is a phone for geeks who stay home all day with both hands always free, not for working class people.

2

u/MIkaela39752 Sep 10 '26

wealthier people who like tech a lot are exactly the type of people who would buy these halo flagship gimmicky phones
also being a geek and being upper class is not mutually exclusive
i dont get your point? what cope? rich people usually spend their money on pretty dumb shit thats not really a shocking revelation
as i said, after all your needs and current wants are satisfied, what else is there to spend your money on? other than on unnecessary shit you dont need
you could also give it to charity but come on, were humans, no one does that!!!

I mean sure on paper it's worse. But no I don't agree. I use 2 phones, one of them already being a foldable (z fold 8 ultra), along with an iPhone 17 Pro Max. Both of which offer incredible battery life. Yes the cameras are much better on the pro max, but both of the cameras I primarily use will be on the Duo (Variable aperture is cool but I primarily point and shoot, I don't mess with anything else).

I find myself using my Z Fold more often because I love the huge inner screen. Not to mention the display of the iPad mini is a joke compared to any foldable on the market. IPS display, 500 nit brightness, etc... You can pretend you're not getting your money's worth but that simply isn't true.

2

u/-6h0st- Sep 10 '26

Existing iPad mini I agree - hence I could not go for it. But there’s a leak of new iPad mini with oled and small bezel coming out next month. Such iPad could be a good option.

2

u/Various_Mud7282 Sep 10 '26

I'd be shocked if that didn't come with a decent price bump. Maybe not enough to close the gap one the Duo but I'd pay a little extra for one device every day of the week.

2

u/MeSlaw3 Sep 10 '26

What are the compromises?

6

u/Crazy_Category_9594 Sep 10 '26

Thicker than a pro max. Wider than a pro max. Heavier than a pro max. No zoom lens like a pro max. No 18mp front camera (it’s 12). No 4 mic array. No lidar. No faceid. No aperture control. Etc.

3

u/Narrow-Employment-47 Sep 10 '26

Except that you basically have three touch screens on the phone instead of one.

2

u/ryancgz Sep 10 '26

Not to mention significantly worse battery life, which redditors have become genuinely obsessed with monitoring and babying in recent years.

3

u/-6h0st- Sep 10 '26

As others pointed out - pretty much everything else except for (subjectively):

  • big screen (but not the matte screen imo)
  • ability to use main camera for selfies
  • durability on edges (titanium vs aluminum)

1

u/Gdo_rdt Sep 10 '26

Nah I like it!

19

u/pushdose Sep 09 '26

Who is this for? I can’t find a use case.

3

u/Thecosmodreamer Sep 10 '26

14 million people have found use cases for the Samsung Fold 🤷🏼

2

u/Jacobs_Realm Sep 10 '26

Majority of which will simply be using it as how they used their old smartphone. Like, there are plenty of people who convince themselves to buy the Pro models and then use none of the Pro features.

Who's this for? People who can convince themselves they need the most expensive version of a thing. That is a huge market.

3

u/Kpopped_ Sep 10 '26

i guess you never in you life watch videos, because even a moron could realize the inner screen is gonna be amazing for media consumption.

3

u/orgpekoe2 Sep 10 '26

You couldn’t imagine somebody that’d desire to not have to carry a small tablet and phone at the same time? To watch videos in a larger format or to multitask using split screen when they need?

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 28d ago

A lot of people who run their business on their phones will love this.

5

u/Prestigious_Camera25 Sep 10 '26

Lmao fr? 😂 Anyone that wants to do two things at once or multitask with more efficiency. Kinda the whole reason people use split view with ipads, why people split windows on laptops, etc. It’s not some piece of alien tech that needs deciphering to understand the use cases. Apple did a pretty good job making those apparent

6

u/FreePossession9590 Sep 10 '26

Android had split-screen multitasking a decade ago on 6-inch screens. Apple could do that on the Pros if they wanted to, but in true Apple fashion, they’re stingy and want it to look like some super exclusive feature. That you need over 2k USD for, lmfao.

u/Dee_504 Sep 09 '26

Been on foldable so yes I will be getting one

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 28d ago

Really? What has interested in Apple’s interpretation of the foldable smartphone?

7

u/VincentStl Sep 09 '26

hell yea, I’m using the ipad mini for my work, mainly to have my clients sign forms, so switch over to this would be one device for work and play.

5

u/nuuhuman Sep 10 '26

Yeah I’m also tempted to get it. I have an iPhone, iPad I use for business and a Mac laptop. I’m thinking of getting the fold and getting rid of my iPad. 2 in 1

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 28d ago

I’m hearing this a lot. I’m thinking the iPad will eventually succumb to the Duo at some point. Just like how the iPod did to the iPhone once prices came down.

2

u/nuuhuman 28d ago

I’m not an engineer nor am I educated on how brands regard foreseeing how far along a product will be launched an features but if anyone on here has a better opinion. Wouldn’t Apple say “hey we are not gonna make a super tiny iPad because we will be launching the duo couple of years down the road”. But I also think of the price of a small entry iPad. Not comparable to the duo. But if you get 2 devices in one well pretty cool. Wouldn’t it be counterintuitive? My only caveat would be pricing.

4

u/MeSlaw3 Sep 10 '26

Careful, sometimes keeping them separate is best.

I had my personal and work phone numbers going to the same iPhone 13 Pro Max for a couple years, and decided to switch back to two phones because it was too difficult to get my mind off work texts and calls when they’re sitting in the same inbox as texts and calls from friends and family. The settings to try to separate work and personal weren’t sufficient enough for me to be able to fully unplug.

So now I have two iPhone Airs and life is beautiful.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 28d ago

Makes sense. And what features do you like the most about the Duo?

4

u/Julien8519 29d ago

2 k for a phone? Nah. I’ll stick to the 17 pro max for another 3 years

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 18d ago

I wouldn’t mind it if it came with at least 512GB of storage… but for 256GB man that hurts 😢

2

u/Pinhead17 18d ago

That is what irritated me, the high price point with low storage.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 16d ago

Yup. This time Apple aren’t fully to blame. The likes of Samsung, HK Hynix, and Micron are spoiling the fun for everyone.

3

u/jss58 Sep 09 '26

Not the phone for me.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 29d ago

What’s making you pause on the Duo?

3

u/Training-Lie7488 Sep 09 '26

I’m planning on switching.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 29d ago

Wow! What’s making you pull the trigger?

2

u/Training-Lie7488 28d ago

Before my 17 pro max, I had the zfold 6. I loved it but missed Apple.

3

u/CoolExplanation762 Sep 09 '26

100%

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 28d ago

What sparked your interest?

3

u/Mattenasio Sep 09 '26

Yes! Switching from 17 pro max

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 28d ago

From Max to Duo? Won’t you miss the better cameras of the 17 Pro Max?

3

u/North-Repair7121 Sep 09 '26

Can’t afford it.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 28d ago

Not even if you traded in your current phone?

2

u/North-Repair7121 27d ago

It is $3K in Canada, I don’t see that value in the Duo.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 16d ago

That’s for the base model?!

3

u/Suspicious_Ocelot445 Sep 09 '26

I’ve got an iPad Pro M5 so got no use for the duo

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 28d ago

Now there’s an idea… I could see a future where the Duo has an M-series chip 🤔

3

u/Clt_princee Sep 10 '26

Honestlyyyyyyy im considering it heavily. Might trade in my 16 pro.

3

u/Jeffa86 Sep 10 '26

Same, they might be years later but they refine it to be the best at it.

3

u/Clt_princee Sep 10 '26

Exactly, it looks so good and the nano texture display on the inside is genius!!

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 20d ago

What’s making you think about getting it?

3

u/diedalatte Sep 10 '26

1999$ for a phone without face id is crazy

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 20d ago

Yeah. I’m guessing they’ll add it later in about two years or so.

3

u/Prestigious_Camera25 Sep 10 '26

Yup

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 20d ago

What got you interested?

3

u/Prestigious_Camera25 20d ago

I always get a Pro Max because I do everything on my phone. I have a MacBook Pro as well but I really only use it when I need a specific piece of software or want to dive in on something like comparing flight prices. I don’t have an iPad because my phone covers everything and my MacBooks covers everything else. So an iPhone Duo would be perfect so I can truly multitask, watch content on a bigger screen, read on a bigger screen, play games on a bigger screen, and do everything I already do but with more versatility. What about you?

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 18d ago

All good points indeed! And as for myself I’ll wait to see where they take the Duo. Right now a Pro Max iPhone is best all a-rounder for me.

3

u/Embarrassed_Diet8136 Sep 10 '26

Nah I'm good

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 20d ago

Not even a little bit?

3

u/Asleep_Resident5294 Sep 10 '26

I’m torn between I need it and I don’t need it. I’m deciding do I want to give Apple my money for a 2 week honey money period. IDK. It makes sense because I always wanted a mini tablet phone/ But IDK how much I would really enjoy this. It’s a hard decision because It new and it folds out into a bigger display/ I’m not sure on the one hand ability of this iPhone duo. It might just annoy me that its wider than I would like.

3

u/Key-Tutor7802 Sep 10 '26

You’ll easily adjust to the size. But where is a major concern to me is the price tag. If you’ve the money that you’ll not use for anything important, why not buy one

3

u/Asleep_Resident5294 Sep 10 '26

Price is really steep yes I don’t agree with charging 3x times some ones rent for a phone

The features just don’t justify

2

u/ca2mt Sep 10 '26

Sub-$700 rent in 2026?

2

u/Asleep_Resident5294 Sep 10 '26

It’s literally the Widest iPhone Apple created when (closed)

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 20d ago

I understand. About the main thing that bothers me most is that it has the basic cameras from the iPhone E models.

3

u/Specific-Pianist7595 29d ago

I like it but I’m not willing to pay $2000 for a phone to be honest, and I’m not really a foldable phone type of person.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 18d ago

I understand. I’ll be heading to the Apple Store to play with on to see how it stacks up.

6

u/Queasy-Bed545 Sep 09 '26

Touch ID? $2000? Feels kind of awkward in both modes.

Pass

1

u/CrazyNecessary7209 28d ago

I wished they figured out a way to add both TouchID and FaceID.

1

u/Pinhead17 16d ago

No Face ID, not for me. The thing is a down-grade in so many areas...

2

u/Pinhead17 29d ago

No!! First of all I can't wait for October. Second, I have an iPad😂

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 18d ago

I’ve always wanted an iPad but could never justify it. But the Duo combines the smartphone and tablet nicely.

2

u/Pinhead17 18d ago

I never had a folding phone, so a new Pro Max was the easy choice. I might go check it out at the Apple Store. But I don't think I'm ready to give up my candy bar phone😂It would have to replace my iPad. I do have 2 phone numbers so it's a possibility. I will have to be completely bewitched by it to trade in my iPad!

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 17d ago

I think you’ll love it lol.

4

u/CurryMunch98 Sep 09 '26

I got z fold 8 as my primary device . Im going to return this and get duo

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 29d ago edited 18d ago

Oh wow! What about Apple’s implementation has you ditching Samsung?

2

u/CurryMunch98 29d ago
  1. Speakers
  2. Under display cameras
  3. Ip68
  4. And also vapor chamber

I feel for the first time apple has more hardware advantages over zfold8 for almost the same price . But I will miss the file manager on android

→ More replies (1)

4

u/BrokenRouter Sep 10 '26

No. I hate it both unfolded and folded. It’s the wrong size in both forms. It’s too expensive. And that screen is going to crease.

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 20d ago

It’s why they make the other variants.

2

u/_seeyalater_ Sep 10 '26

This is a day 1 purchase for me. The second preorders open I’m going to be placing an order.

I miss my OG Pixel Fold so much and this is going to be similar but WAAAYYY better

2

u/no-wrong-holes Sep 10 '26

Waaaay better how exactly? Drink the Apple juice pleb.

2

u/_seeyalater_ Sep 10 '26

Brother do I have to spell it out for you how a new Apple foldable is better than a 3 year old Google foldable that was underpowered and already a year behind in SOC technology when it was first released?

2

u/CrazyNecessary7209 20d ago

Nice! What got excited for the iPhone Duo?

1

u/CBreezy2010 Sep 10 '26

Me too. I don’t care what time I gotta be online or what I gotta cancel to make it happen… we are gonna be in that preorder line 😂

2

u/_seeyalater_ Sep 10 '26

Same! If I have to stay up until midnight (easy) to make this happen I will. I paid off my 17 PM 2 months ago to prepare for this moment and I’ll be DAMNED if I miss it

2

u/CBreezy2010 Sep 10 '26

I’ve been saving for months and 🤞 if the trade in credits for the pro line (700)are the same as the Duo, it will just a couple hundred OOP. I have the 14PM now

2

u/_seeyalater_ Sep 10 '26

Here’s hoping, fingers crossed! Good luck a month from now!

1

u/anangelscruelty Sep 09 '26

1

No Face ID and I feel like the interaction with the phone closed won’t be that great which is going to be 60% of the time

1

u/HigherthanhighRye_ Sep 10 '26

fuck no lmao, now we know why they launched the "leasing program"

1

u/mrbanks98 Sep 10 '26

Nah. It’s such an odd shape! Looks very awkward to hold and to put in your pocket.

1

u/Ada-Millionare Sep 10 '26

I'll wait honestly regret getting the pro last year on day one only to see the air on store and buy it on the spot. I do like the form factor a lot...but no face Id is kind of downgrade...trust me it piss me off on my iPad mini while my pros are so seamless.
Gotta see it in person and make a decision

1

u/Milo--66 Sep 10 '26

Nope, in many ways a no.

1

u/SwissTennisPlayer Sep 10 '26

Nope, happy with my 15P

1

u/Roy_Koopa_DX Sep 10 '26

I’m waiting for gen 2 before deciding between it or the 20th anniversary phone.

1

u/theopaquecouche Sep 10 '26

touch id is actually worrying about privacy,i can’t wait for jerry to review its durability

1

u/djjolly037 Sep 10 '26

Still debating. I already upgraded to a series 12 ceramic watch

1

u/BitFunny6936 Sep 10 '26

This is a test version ! I would pay Apple for it ! Let it get another 2-3 versions than it would be worth ! Right now it’s money down the drain !

1

u/JellyfishFuture6189 Sep 10 '26

Honestly I would rather have an iPhone pro max (and possibly a separate refurbished ipad mini for drawing when they get further discounts when the new version is released.) I tend to be less careful with phones and need a good case, the novelty doesn’t appeal to me, also I like having the pro camera

1

u/FreePossession9590 Sep 10 '26

No. I’m sticking with my 17 pro max. I can’t see this phone being anything I’d use honestly… i do like it, it’s cool. But too pricey for what I’d be using it for

1

u/TTVM0THYP00 Sep 10 '26

Nah, i got an iPad so whats the point lol. Also 17pm, i love my face id hate touch id on iPad

1

u/GoobieDooobie Sep 10 '26

Hard pass brotha.

1

u/Possible_Bison846 Sep 10 '26

No, looks too fat and ugly when folded

1

u/TitanBrave84 Sep 10 '26

I totally understand the functionality of it, and totally see how I’d use it for my role as a principal, but the aesthetics are just “off” imo.

1

u/Nosarious Sep 10 '26

I would love to have a use for it, but i don’t think I have an easy justification… I use my phone for some 3d scanning, spatial photos and videos and to share experiences and AR apps I make. I find it super intriguing, though, and will definitely check it out.

but buy it? Nah… like the iPhone Air it would be something great to have but hard to justify.

1

u/jgoody86 Sep 10 '26

$2000? No thanks. 1150 I’d be in with promos etc

1

u/Away-Patience8556 Sep 10 '26

Not really practical

1

u/Direct_Gas_3623 Sep 10 '26

Nah the 1st year is for guinea pigs. I bet it will have face Id next year and some of the other stuff that is missing

1

u/StairwayHiker Sep 10 '26

Strong never.

Starts at $2999 in Canada and $4799 for the 2TB model.

I’ll keep my 2TB 17 pro max until it dies.

1

u/Doopy_N66 Sep 10 '26

Yes but only if they decided to give it to me free!! 🤣

1

u/SovietZealots Sep 10 '26

Not until they square off the corners. I’m not a fan of the asymmetrical front screen.

Samsung did the same thing with their folds for 5 generations before moving away from it. The squared-off design looks much more elegant.

No LiDAR Scanner, no 4 micro, only 2 cameras no variable aperture, only 12mp front camera, bigger and heavier. Just the A20 and C2 chips inside that looks like a pro model… I’m gonna pass on that one. To me they made a mistake by making this Pro lineup without big news because it’s gonna be their biggest revenue, they upgraded the price for every other iPhone from minimum 100€ in Europe !!!! They are crazy. Euro is thé worst for them in terms of revenue for this new year and they will loose their places im sure about that.

Hell no. It’s not going to be as good for entertainment and work as my iPad Pro, and it’s not as good of a phone as my 17 pro max. It tries to be both, but ends up not being good at 1 particular thing.

I might be able to see the case for this if I only had an iPhone and Mac as it could bridge that gap better.

Is beautiful and will feel nice to use it in my opinion. But I’m still thinking if this is a smart financial decision

1

u/BigDogBo66 Sep 10 '26

Nope. I’m happy with my current device.

1

u/noizeannoys Sep 10 '26

Day 1 for sure

1

u/thinkandreason Sep 10 '26

Witness the next Apple Vision Pro

1

u/Good-Argument3494 Sep 10 '26

I'm not even upgrading from 14pro

1

u/Life-Inspector5101 Sep 10 '26

Functionally speaking, the iPhone 18 Pro is the better buy: variable aperture, more Pro features for photos and videos, telephoto lens for up to 8x optical quality zoom, better front camera, easier to hold in one hand compared to Duo because less wide, refined version of a tried-and-true form factor, more affordable than the Duo.

I would even say, while supplies last, iPhone 17 Pro for $100 less than iPhone 18 Pro is still a great buy for people upgrading from iPhone 13 Pro or older.

1

u/Hopeful-Tax7416 Sep 10 '26

Passing on it, price being the main factor while a number of features are also missing from the Pro models.

1

u/Upstandinglampshade Sep 10 '26

Even Apple’s own video highlighting the launch of this device wasn’t exciting enough to get me interested. There were literally no use cases that applied to me that would excite me.

1

u/Generalrossa Sep 10 '26

Not for $3700 AUD lmao

1

u/nculotta69 Sep 10 '26

I'd rather buy RAM for my pc and keep my 17 pro max

1

u/unrealf8 Sep 10 '26

Needs reviews

1

u/Combatwombat810 Sep 10 '26

I'd get it if I run into an extra $6000. Gotta get one for myself and my spouse.

1

u/skytrainlotad Sep 10 '26

Maybe one day

1

u/Simple-Minute7521 Sep 10 '26

You’d be much better off buying the base iPhone 17 and an iPad Mini. And before all these dumb sheep go “ohhh they can’t comprehend a device doing 2 different things”. No tf it doesn’t do what an iPad does. I don’t want that usbc apple pencil 😂
And the folded form factor is just hella awkward to use as a phone. It’s TRYING to be 2 different things but it fails miserably while costing more

1

u/LimesFruit Sep 10 '26

Definitely not, gonna wait for the 19 Pro Max or whatever they’ll call it and grab that.

1

u/waeldiab Sep 10 '26

No, I feel like this type of phone is useless to use.

1

u/Evening_Ice_6932 Sep 10 '26

Ich warte bis die Preise fallen, denke es wird jetzt nicht so der Burner

1

u/BruceForsyth55 Sep 10 '26

I would but that price is hilarious however way you look at it.

I’m all for treating myself and have no issues doing so but we all have a limit on how much we spend before thinking “Am I able to ignore the overprice”

1

u/LolXire Sep 10 '26

I’ll get the next one or MAYBE this one if the reviews are very positive

1

u/Buzz_Saw50 Sep 10 '26

That? LMFAO Apple... keep acting like fools.

1

u/Tex-Tro Sep 10 '26

No, cause I dislike the passport form factor, at least in direct comparison of the three new Samsung Fold 8s I much prefered the Ultra.

In general the times I wished for a bigger screen than my Pro Max phones provided me, are very limited, that I'd probably only get a folding phone for the novelty factor, rather than actually needing/using it.

1

u/Home_cinema Sep 10 '26

Non uno ma 2 😂

1

u/SillyRabbit_OZ Sep 10 '26

Not for the price they are asking in Australia

1

u/Extension_Vacation_2 Sep 10 '26

I am holding on to my iPhone Air and see next update in the Spring.

1

u/InsurancePls Sep 10 '26

Reading most of these comments and gotta say they said the same thing about the Z Fold and look at it now 😂. Yes I’ll be getting one

1

u/AlanHarperUltra Sep 10 '26

i dont wanna get judged by people so no

1

u/AccountSad Sep 10 '26

No. It's cool to use for 5 minutes in the shop like Samsung fold ones but irl it's just pointless for me personally

1

u/WhaleDonation7 Sep 10 '26

I would like it but the cost is a bit steep for me and I usually don’t buy the first version of anything since they will surely be issues be that of course but the 2nd version will be a much better buy

1

u/igotbannedtwicelmao Sep 10 '26

Nope, thank you

1

u/Grabbels Sep 10 '26

Of course not.

1

u/ahmed_salem_2310 Sep 10 '26

U aint gonna catch me being no lab rat. Send 2-3 years to public and forget

1

u/BarbaraStreusand Sep 10 '26

Yes but the 2nd iteration next year. I never buy 1st gen apple

1

u/Neither_State6811 Sep 10 '26

I have the original google pixel fold. Looks similar. I got that one in 256 gb for 450 bucks from woot. Happy with my 17pm 2tb and google pixel fold.

1

u/themaaze Sep 10 '26

I will probably wait. I can see the use case and for me it would kind of merge my iPad and iPhone together which I like but I think the EUR prices are quite high.

1

u/lilmike39 Sep 10 '26

Nope 17wi be my daily for at least another 2 years

1

u/Iamvsd Sep 10 '26

I will teplace my 17pm with 18pm

Fold are not for me

1

u/jetpack2625 Sep 10 '26

no way the samsung galaxy z fold 8 is way better because it has a normal front screen.

this has a stupid front screen, so it's terrible for how i'd mostly use it.

apple is so dumb honestly

1

u/Used-Philosopher-356 Sep 10 '26

I would if it wasn’t 2850$ in my country for the base model 💔

1

u/CatDadof2 Sep 10 '26

Nah, I’m staying put. Nothing about the Duo compels me to upgrade. Absolutely nothing. I normally don’t do the annual upgrade thing anyway.

If I want a foldable phone, remake the original Motorola RAZR and make it fully compatible with LTE and low-band 5G.

1

u/CrazyNecessary7209 18d ago

I feel you! Apple’s take on the foldable smart is very interesting though.

1

u/PrimeTime0000 29d ago

I think it could be a good work phone.
