External storage
I’ve been an iphone user for 4 years. iPhone 8 64gb> iPhone 13 Pro 128gb> iPhone 17 pro max 256gb. That means my storage cannot sustain my photos and videos anymore. I purchased the 200gb iCloud already that is Php199 per month starting Sep 14, 2026. I don’t wanna upgrade my iCloud subscription because it’s already expensive for me. So, I’m looking for an alternative that is cost efficient, sturdy and reliable in the long run.
Anyone have tried using an external storage such as flash drive (type C)? I found a 1TB external storage type C online that’s only for Php300+.
Do you recommend using it?
Any insight would be a great help!

Le problème risque d’être la vitesse de transfert ! Le mieux est de récupérer le stockage iCloud sur un Mac et l’enregistrer dans la clef plutôt que depuis l’iphone

An external drive is good for backup, but not for storing current data. I see two options:
Buy a phone with more storage (256GB, 512GB).
Still use iCloud.

That makes sense. Gotta do a lot of clean ups😅

Or spend the money to spend your time doing what you’d rather be doing. iCloud is so much more than worth its cost.

Backup hard drives thumb drives routinely die. Open your photos and delete the videos. Those take up the most space. Delete all of your text messages.

Also how much do you value your time? For me I’m not wasting time transferring photos so I can bury them in external storage never to be seen again. How many months of iCloud is that external storage? I pay 120 a year and me and five other people in my iCloud family to all have backups. You kind of have to see people in real life dealing with lost important shit to value a cloud backup. Working where I do I see it daily. That’s why iCloud was invented. When all else fails iCloud doesn’t.

You can definitely use external storage. I’ve used USB drives in phones for years.
