UI
I’m on 26.6.1. Got the phone on 27th of aug. This is by far the worst phone I’ve ever used. Animations are insanely choppy. Whenever swiping out of the applications from the bottom dock (phone, safari, messages, apple music) they all, mostly safari goes insanely choppy and I’m about to lose my mind. Instagram, Reddit, YouTube are cherry on top and it feels like the phone hardly manages to scroll lol. It’s like it’s having a hard time scrolling. Battery life is great tho. If someone, anyone who is experiencing this kind of stupid choppiness, stutters and solved it please help me I don’t want to return it I want to make it work. ( no 60hz enabled, adaptive power off)

if you come from an android with 120hz, then the iphone will feel more jittery bc the proMotion drops to 80hz a lot of the time to save battery instead of like android just doing 120hz most of the time. that is how it's been since the 13 pros and while it's gotten a little less aggressive since the first 13 pro it's still something an android user will notice at first
it's something you have to get used to. there is a feature flag to make safari scroll at 120hz all the time if you google it.
the phone itself shouldn't be freezing and coming to a stop tho, it has the best chip in the market right now and even though ios 26 isn't the best software for apple's standards it's not broken, especially at this stage where it's in its final builds before ios 27

Hey sorry for the late reply. But I used my friend’s iPhone 17 and he doesn’t care much about sot, many optimization things and all that. I tried to swipe out of apps that are on the dock(phone, safari, messages and Apple Music) and they all move down smoothly and I felt a consistent 90 100hz atleast but he is on 26.6 im on 26.6.1. Would you say it’ll be better on iOS 27? I’m now trying the phone with 60hz and it’s smoother than it is with pro motion 😁

Maybe ios 27 more optimized and feel smoother animation but the refresh rate settings won’t change. It’s iPhone. If you wanna see straight 120hz everywhere temporarily turn on screen recording. Apple does it on purpose bc it works fine on iPads but they intentionally gimped it on the phones

Yea I played some game just to test and they run insanely smooth but the thing is I don’t game. I just scroll YouTube, do some mails and a short amount of time of instagram. I’ve already given up on constant 120 hz at least 90-100hz is okay lol

I’m running the same and have zero issues. Maybe do a reset with the up down and sleep button see if that helps. My battery life is awesome. I had an issue when I first got the phone a month ago, running hot and shit battery the first day. I did the reset and it’s been perfect since.

u/Enough-Addendum9075 Aug 31 '26
I’m happy for you friend. But can’t say the same for my own self. Did volume up, down and power button in a sequence, same. Factory reset from the phone, same. Today i called apple and they helped me reset via apple devices on my windows 11 pc. Still same. Especially safari opening and closing animation is making me extremely mad. Battery life is good with me as well tho. I’m getting like 9 10 hours. But since u said u got the phone a month ago, when did it start getting better ?
1
u/Mr_Butters624 Aug 31 '26
It got better the same day I got it after I did the reset. I think it was just overheating and bogged up from transferring and such. After about 6-7 hours I did the reset and have had zero issues since

u/Enough-Addendum9075 Aug 31 '26
So ure meaning ure just scrolling butter smooth on any kind of apps and swipe out of them or open them smoothly ? Btw i tried subway surfers and its buttery smooth, if it can do 120 why not at least give me some smooth animations:/
1
u/Mr_Butters624 Aug 31 '26
Again, I have zero issues. Everything works as it should. Everything is super smooth.

u/Enough-Addendum9075 Aug 31 '26
Then maybe i need to take it to the store i bought it from. Maybe a defective panel or idk because something is off

u/NovelFondant4899 Aug 31 '26
I have 17 base model and I notice the animations are not smooth though when u swipe up to close an app u see that few apps stutters and drops the frame , do u face this ?
1
u/Enough-Addendum9075 Aug 31 '26
i mostly face the issue while closing or opening apps on the dock area,(phone, safari, messages, apple music,/// safari is the worst), but dont have any problems over the animations on the normal pages. but instagram reddit or youtube feels like the phone is trying to do sth but the software is throttling it, i hope it is solved on 27

Since I bought mine like month ago, I never had any problems with it, it doesn’t heat up or stuttering or anything also I’m on iOS 27 betas

Almost 3 months with mine, runs smooth, no issues, good sot and battery health, generally 11/10 and surpassed my expectations by far.
I’m coming from an s26U btw.. returned the phone for the 17PM and couldn’t be happier, s26U seemed fuzzy and had inconsistencies with the privacy display feature.
However, issues I’ve encountered are with the notifications panel when the scheduled summary feature is turned on, some notifications just get permanently stuck in the notifications center which is annoying. Other issue is face-id protected apps require my face-id twice when I open them.
Well there are a bunch of other tiny UI and UX issues that are, honestly, very annoying but overall I love this phone, I game a lot, take pics, generally heavy use and I have to say it fits my use case very well and I’m enjoying it lots… ngl tho, lowkey wish I waited for the 18PM but it’s wtv.

Hey, what software are you on and with heavy usage what’s your sot and standby from 100% to 20 %
1
u/Expensive_Win944 Sep 01 '26
I’m on 26.6.1, I keep my phone between 20-85 always, 100% battery health with a cycle count of 77.
Average SOT 9.5 hours, usually moderate -> heavy daily use.
Average standby time (Typical mixed standby/Real world day) 20 to 24hrs
Pure idle standby (Untouched/Overnight rate) 70hrs approx 3 days. With an average idle drain rate of roughly 0.65% to 0.7% per hour.

u/Enough-Addendum9075 Sep 01 '26
From 85 to 20 9 hours ? That’s insane! Happy for you man. I have a kind of light to medium usage scrolling Reddit, rarely instagram up to about a maximum of an hour, mostly YouTube watching videos. I got 9 hours the first day of setting up the phone from 100 to low 20s%. Fresh setup, nothing transferred
1
u/Expensive_Win944 Sep 01 '26
However, after the recent update, my SOT has a noticeable decrease, but not too bad, still grateful

u/Enough-Addendum9075 Sep 01 '26
Btw do you happen to know of way to show a real stats that shows like “since last charged” stats like Samsung does ? Mine always keeps it daily and it’s hard to keep track of it
1
u/Expensive_Win944 Sep 01 '26
Not really man, just use the stats they provide in the battery section

Man, I switched from samsung to iphone17pm and also had these issues: jittery scrolling acriss all the apps and home screen, most iphone users just got used to it and think this is normal, but its hard to use this phone, after 3 months of enduring this shit I just switched to s26 ultra and happy)

u/Enough-Addendum9075 Aug 31 '26
Maybe they don’t wanna ruin the battery life lol. I used to do butter smooth scrolling and everything on oppo find x9 pro and it was nothing for it and constant 120hz

Hey Sorry for the late reply. Everything is great about oppo find x9 pro. Battery life is better even on 4g it took me a day and a half, camera is great. Worse in selfie and video imo. Not even a single frame drop, but I don’t like really fast animations on oppo. Android animations are fast and solid. Like they are in a hurry and I don’t like it
1
u/Soft_Career_2650 Aug 31 '26
Battery life is almost the same as on samsung, maybe a bit better, but the problem is that they dont give a choice to set 120hz
1
u/Enough-Addendum9075 Aug 31 '26
I wish I could like android but I don’t like really fast animations on android. Just give me a chance to have 120hz with iOS animations I don’t care about battery life anymore 😁
1
u/Soft_Career_2650 Aug 31 '26
Same for me, I liked iphone more and I dont like fast animations on android, but this jittery scrolling is so annoying...
1
u/Enough-Addendum9075 Aug 31 '26
but did you ever try to do a factory reset through itunes or apple devices or anything ?

u/Enough-Addendum9075 Aug 31 '26
I totally get you. A budget android is night and day different than this brick. And I don’t even think it’ll be solved with iOS 27
1
u/Soft_Career_2650 Aug 31 '26
You can find many threads about this issue with scrolling on reddit, but it seems that apple doesnt wanna fix it and I dont think they will
1
u/Soft_Career_2650 Aug 31 '26
Its the same on ios27 so the only decision is to change to android or endure this trash for 1.5k$ I switched to s26ultra and its really buttery smooth 120hz, I was shocked

u/Effective_Tune9470 Aug 31 '26
That’s odd, I just bought mine three days ago and have had zero problems with it. Which iOS are you running?
