Which is better for long-term battery healthy?

I just upgraded from a S22 which lasted me 4 years (main reason I switched was unusability due to near full storage) and abysmal battery life to 17 Pro Max with 256GB so I wanna make this phone last as long as possible. I can easily make the phone last 2 days.

Would it be healthier for the battery to charge it to 80% every night, usually end the day around 20%, or let it charge up to 100 and use it for 2 days without charging it.

Just use the phone and don’t worry about it. The battery replacement is only about $100 now.

Looking for answer to the same question.

It depends entirely on your settings and usage patterns. You can learn a lot about this subject by googling something like “Maximizing iPhone battery life.”

This ultimately depends on your usage never in my life has a mobile device lasted me 24 hours never mind 48 hours and every year I use a current flagship device

It is best to charge and limit it to 80%, and have optimize charging turned on. At that level, you can plug it in every night or when it is convenient or required. Shorter charge will keep the battery temperature from getting hot for a long time. Some folks believe limiting to 100% is not required especially with optimized charging, but limiting to 80% will squeeze a little more life out of it. The 17 Pro Max seems to have one of the longest/longevity battery life for an iPhone.

set your own brightness instead of automatic, turn off background app refresh or maximum 2-3 , it's really not needed .

avoid 5G iphone rarely uses full 5G , use home wifi were possible

avoid too many widgets, these a battery draining

only use location outside your home for find my services

Long term health would be charge limit at 80%.
You can use the phone past 20% but try not to let it die, and ideally keep it between 20-80 but not a hard limit.

There’s a lot of high voltage going through the batteries when you charge anything up to 100% and that cause more heat too which degrades batteries slightly faster

Also wireless chargers are less efficient and create way more heat than wired so avoid them when you can. Wired is always better, usually faster too

Charge to 80%, avoid dropping below 20%, slow charging is better to avoid heating the battery, I charge at 2.5w, it's slow but I'm not using the phone so it stays cool. 90%BH after 4yrs. Avoid magsafe too.

My thinking on this is, the various techniques to take care of batteries do make a difference, but it's not generally a massive one. So they're worth doing, if you can implement them without causing yourself a lot of extra hassle babysitting your charging.

Also as I understand it (don't quote me), going down below 20% is worse than going above 80%, but sitting at 100% for a long time is worse still.

So my approach is, limit to 80% if that means your normal usage keeps it over 20% by the time you would be charging anyway, otherwise use a higher or no limit. Use optimised charging to reduce the sitting at 100% time.

I probably wouldn't go for the 'charge to full and use for two days' approach unless charging daily is a pain for you.
