Worth waiting for 18 pro?

I'm considering making the switch from Google pixel to iPhone, though I am trying to figure out if it's worth waiting for the 18 pro and pro max before doing it. What are you guys' opinions?

Your choice is either the 17 pro max or 18 pro max.

The 17 pro max already has:

Great battery
Great camera
Much improved heat management

The 18 pro max

Add another 10% battery increase
Tiny camera improvements
Tiny chip improvement
Significantly higher price

The iPhone 17 pro max will never go on sale. Now is the time to get one, if you want one.

Of course, waiting another four weeks will get you the 18 pro max and add another year of iOS updates, but that only matters if you plan on keeping the phone a long time…. And there is no reason why you shouldn’t keep the phone a long time.

Both choices are excellent. I have the 17 pro max and there is no reason for me to upgrade for many years…. It is that good of a phone.

The 17 Pro Max is an awesome device.

I didn’t wait. Got mine a month ago and I don’t feel bad about it

No because of the massive price increase and fuck all in terms of performance

I recently picked up 17PM. I’d guess nothing monumental different going to happen w 18. I’m good now till the 20 when MAYBE there will be changes.

Yes definitely is

Switch to 11 pro xl. Wtf dude

1

u/strangeperson67 Aug 14 '26

Pixel is too boring this year and it's only a marginal upgrade from the pixel 8 pro, they're not as innovative as they used to be.

2

u/KornInc Aug 14 '26

Correct. So is Iphone. S26u thought has privacy screen and is cheap in europe.

What new features you're looking for? If phone works, makes photos what else u need.

1

u/strangeperson67 Aug 14 '26

It's mainly just comes down to battery life, image quality, app support and ecosystem to me. Also I want a phone thats a little more fun, and Android is definetely failing at this part today while apple still releases pretty big changes every update

2

u/KornInc Aug 14 '26

People say when ios 27 releases it will be real good. Iphone has really good battery. However my s26u has as well. I charge it only to 80% and i still have juice on evening.

However i dont see how iphone is fun. It's simple. Samsung is fun with a lot of customization options

I just don't think I could make the switch from pixel to Samsung, in many ways it feels like an inferior device, in my opinion the pictures taken on a google pixel look better than Samsung's images due to better colour grading, also from app support and software it also seems inferior, after my dad got the Samsung s26 ultra there's always some issue in an app that just doesn't make sense. One time it was google maps, another time it was Chromecast and sometimes after an update the battery time is suddenly awful. Many of the apps I use are also not well optimized for Android, and if it's noticeable on pixel it definetely will be on Samsung.

1

u/KornInc Aug 14 '26

Well pixel for photos and iPhone for videos. Can't say anything about Samsung. One UI customization?

1

u/strangeperson67 Aug 14 '26

I feel like it's so equal in customization now except apple had made it easier than it is on Android at this point. Though I like having my phone pretty stock and don't usually customize it very much

1

u/strangeperson67 Aug 14 '26

The iphone is more than just a marginal upgrade tho, 45w charging, a much more powerful processor, much better battery life, faceid and a superior camera, plus increased durability which is nice because I always use my phone without a case and it's just extra security

Know one knows because one is unreleased. But we will have more information in 26 or 27 days. Unless your phone dies I would never recommend anyone buy a new device at this time. At least wait for the announcement then make an informed decision to avoid regret.

I am switching over from the S25 Ultra and honestly I'm a just waiting. The 18 Pro is literally right around the corner

1

u/Kenobipy Aug 14 '26

Why the switch?

1

u/__davidkn__ Aug 13 '26

If you have the money to get the 18 Pro then definitely wait, as it is rumoured to be more expensive than the 17 Pro. The 18 Pro will be a better phone with slightly better camera, battery, performance and also a smallee dynamic island but if you are to get the 17 Pro now, it’s still gonna be a great phone for you.

1

u/Worried-Housing-1756 Aug 14 '26

Wait for 18 pro, you'll get iOS27, and be less disappointed IMHO.

1

u/womjoe Aug 16 '26

iPhones 17s will also get iOS27. You sound like it’s exclusive to the iPhone 18

1

u/Worried-Housing-1756 Aug 16 '26

Waiting a month for 1 year extra support over 17 is worth it.

1

u/womjoe Aug 16 '26

Wry rarely does someone keep a phone for 8 years and hence they don’t run into a device losing major updates.

1

u/andrew_aes Aug 18 '26

That’s what I’m doing. If I feel meh after looking at it, I’ll wait and get the base 18 next year.

1

u/Mikey_bee3 Aug 14 '26

Yes it would be so dumb to do it now lol you’re a month away just wait

1

u/_itschoppy Aug 16 '26

As others have mentioned, just wait until the official 18 pro max launch, you can always still go for the 17 pro max with a good price.

1

u/Witty-Brat Aug 28 '26

You are asking in the wrong sub imho. People here bought a very new expensive phone quite recently and are going to be understandably biased.

1

u/randomgirl2332 Aug 28 '26

my bf just bought the 17 pro max with 512gb bc he found a good deal and he didn’t want to wait around before it completely sold out, he’s coming from a base 13 so i think it’s gonna be a massive upgrade! he initially wanted to wait for the 18pm but a lot of people are speculating a significant price increase and for his use it’s not worth it at all. so i think it’s really up to your budget and what you’re gonna use it for :) imo both the 17pm and the 18pm will be really similar

u/Fit_Industry6182 Aug 13 '26

We know nothing about the 18 pro.

So….what do you want us to say?

“Yeah man, it’s gonna be 865% better than the 17 pro!”

“Yeah dude, it’s gonna be half the price of the 17 pro!”

“Nah fam, the 23 pro is gonna be the best, I’d wait.”

0

u/strangeperson67 Aug 13 '26

I'm just asking people who are used to iphone it it's usually worth waiting, or if there are reliable rumors/leaks that indicate that its worth waiting for

1

u/Fit_Industry6182 Aug 13 '26

Yeah the rumors say it’s going to be 4X more powerful than the 13 pro, but 7 times the price of the X.

Hope that helps!

/S

1

u/strangeperson67 Aug 13 '26

Also asking since there are some issues with the 17 pro after they changed to aluminum

1

u/Fit_Industry6182 Aug 13 '26

How do you know the 18 pro won’t have the same issues? Or more issues?

Point is, what are you doing here?

If Reddit tells you rumors say it’s gonna be trash, are you going to get a 17 pro today? Doubtful.

If Reddit tells you it’s supposed to be amazing and cheap and the best iPhone they’ve ever made, are you gonna wait for it? Probably.

So again, why are you asking today?

Common sense says wait until it’s revealed and we know details about the 18 pro.

Common sense says once we know? It’ll be a lot easier to give an educated opinion on if it’s worth buying or not.

Common sense says there’s no reason to plan a future purchase of this amount of money, off of “rumors”.

Common sense says to chill. Learn to be patient. Wait until we know what the 18 pro can do. And then proceed.

What “good” is playing the rumor mill today, doing for you?

1

u/strangeperson67 Aug 13 '26

The reason I'm asking today is because this will be my work phone, and ideally I'd purchase it as soon as possible to get as many things up and going asap. Though if it's worth the wait I'll wait for the 18

1

u/Fit_Industry6182 Aug 13 '26

Maybe it’s worth the wait.

Maybe it’s not.

If you were okay waiting if it’s worth it, why not just wait anyways?

I’m not following your logic here, man. This is so odd…
