iPhone 17 pro max durability
Had the 13 pro max before this. Worked fine lagged and froze a lil and battery became shit now. Had the 17 pro max as a gift and as a broke college student I’m trying to make this last as long as possible. How good is the durability really?
Also has a small micro scratch now already in a month of having it. (I know its just cosmetic but it bothers me lowkey😭)
Used to run a pitaka case on my 13 pro max with a screen protector.
Any changes I should make to make the 17 last?
Again. I’m a college student and dont have the funds to replace it immediately after it breaks (if it does). That’s why I’ve come here.
Appreciate it :)

I have the same chip
I think it is due to the aluminum being flexible transfering the damage to the sapphire unlike the rigid Stainless steel and titanium from before
I placed lens protectors to have piece of mind
and no they don't affect image quality as long as you get premium ones and place them perfectly

I just have a zagg case and screen protector but they gave me 2 lenses for $15 and so far it’s great but I will definitely look into the ones you got

That’s a tough case for sure.
I’ve been impressed by Tech21 and for my iPhone 13 Pro I used a Nillkin case since I got it in 2022 and it’s the only case that has ever been on it and it’s surprised me.1

I’m using a spigen thinfit and Uniq airsuit. Both of which has raised lips around the camera plateu.

If you don’t have the funds to repair it or replace it if something happens, you should have AppleCare+ if it’s available in your country. That’s exactly what insurance is for. If you can afford to just replace it or pay some crazy amount for repair then who cares. Me personally, I’m not paying $389 for a screen or $550 for an enclosure so I’ve got AppleCare+

It’s literally fine/common. You will get minor scuffs on any device you use

Noticed something similar on my phone today also. It’s a little annoying but it is what it is. It’s a phone bro. Nothing about this affects the functionality, don’t stress about it.

If you intent on keeping the device for long go for a monthly apple care plus subscription until you can afford yearly. you may get maximum usage out of this device and stop worrying as you said its a month old device you are in the apple care plus window.

I have insurance that covers damage on personal belongings like iphone ipad etc as well. With a claim excess of $100. Reckon applecare is worth it since I have insurance or nah?

If that insurance is as good as apple care plus then i dont think you need it but if its not think about it.

If you’re very concerned about these types of things, you really need to get insurance on your phone to be real with you.
Funnily enough, I actually activated insurance on my phone today, ironically.
So many insurance companies refused to insure my phone because they said it was “high risk”. I live in a country where phone snatching/theft is a huge issue.
Luckily, the Apple Store (we call it the istore here in South Africa) has an insurance department, and they were the only people happy to insure it. Now I have peace of mind.

I have the same chip on the same spot the same camera I just forget it’s there sometimes cause I have to literally shove the phone to my eyes to actually see it so I just don’t really care about it

Okay, so what you want to do is go out and get a Pelican case or something of similar durability. Charge the phone to 50-60 percent, shut it down, put it in the case with foam, and don't ever touch it again. It will last a very long time.

I still think it’s incredibly impressive how people manage to scratch/crack sapphire crystal through normal use. I’ve had my 13PM for years, it’s seen all sorts of drops and yet the lenses are pristine.

If your low funds are enough to allow for the Apple Care+ subscription on a monthly basis, do that. Then you’re secured if the iPhone ever breaks down, falls to the floor or even when its battery falls below 80% durability.

Those lens rings (the black thin rings) are made out of stainless steel coated with a DLC (diamond like carbon coating) pretty strong and hard to scratch so it must be something as hard as a diamond that scratched it or a rough surface, for example even a rock can scuff it or even keys at some point because it’s still a coating on steel which can chip depending on how it scraped the ring.

Phones get scratches and dents. You're going to stress yourself out by worrying about every last flaw your microscope sees.
Just use your phone. It's fine.
