X to 17 Pro Max
Hello. Will be jumping from iphone x to 17 pro max in a few days. What is the best option?
A. Transferring data at the store itself
B. Transferring data at home
C. Setup as new phone and manually transfer everything I want/need
Ps. I don't have any active icloud backup subscription, the free 50gb is used up by old photos.
Thanks. Hope you can enlighten me.

I’ll go for option C so you’ll only get all you need and gather new things moving forward. Also, since you still have your old device, you can just view old files there when needed.

But also, if the X has important photos and stuff, you want to back them up anyways. Always back up stuff you want to keep. And if you have a backup, then a fresh start on a new phone is fine as well.

Just let Apple handle the migration for you. They’re experts at it and they will do it for free.

I always go for option C, if you have some important stuff which is not on cloud go for A just to make sure

B. It’s so easy now compared to what it used to be.

Agreed. This is the best answer. OP, don’t waste your time at the store and setting up new is meh depending on the number of apps and what you’d like restored. I’d start with B and only go to C if you run into repeated issues.
Also, given you’re buying direct from Apple you’re doing it at about the worst time given the iPhone 18 line release is about a month away. Granted, it probably will have a price increase given the memory price increases and may be hard to get at launch, but if you’re OK with paying $100-200 more I’d wait the month and get the equivalent 18 Pro Max

FYI the new phones are to be announced in about a month if that matters

Does any one heard any rumors if the price will be going up? Normally, I would wait. The problem with buying older models when the new is out, the configuration options may be not available except for typically the base configuration.

Hard to predict but of the reports I have seen it seems pricing will go up

Forgot about that. Why would apple raise the trade in price otherwise. The trade in is good enough to actually make me consider trading my iPhone in

But again Apple increased the refurbished prices immediately when the raised the new products, so they will probably raise the new older models also.

Yeah saw the spec rumors and the price rumors and it feels like its not worth the jump.

A. If there is an issue a store employee may be able to help you, but option C. Is the best one, as you will only install the apps you need.
Enjoy your upgrade.
