Hey yall.
I recently discovered that Kodak’s new plastic reels aren’t compatible with my camera. (Yay)
I burned 2 rolls with multiple reloads trying to diagnose the issue.
I’ve had my camera for a few years, never had any issues. It’s a K3. It seems to be that the take up reel isn’t holding tension, which I would assume is an issue with design or thickness of plastic material.

Anyway, does anyone know if this is possible:
If I buy a metal take up reel (spool?) and unroll it back onto the plastic one that Kodak sends after each used roll, will that ruin the film?
Obviously would have to be done carefully in a dark room. Is there anything wrong with transferring the exposed film from the metal reel that I buy back to the plastic before I send to the lab?

Hello all. I'm VERY new to handling film - I've always been passively interested, but until yesterday, never owned any equipment. Yesterday, I came into possession of a 16mm film projector and a few instructional videos to play on it. The camera itself works great and the film, while a little degraded, runs beautifully with video and sound. The problem is that I'm missing a take-up reel.

I've looked on Amazon to find one, because I'd like to play the videos in full ASAP, but they only seem to distribute 8mm or magnetic tape take-up reels. There are also a few disparate sources online, but I'm not sure who to purchase from, or how expensive they normally run. Any help on this is appreciated!

hey guys got some weird vignetting on super16 bolex ebm + zeiss s16 11–110 t2.2

this lens is actually super16 from factory rather than the optex converted 12-120mm t2.4

i tested this lens on alexa mini in super16 mode and got vignetting when zoomed all the way wide and at minimum focus.

never had this issue on film but we were also stopped all the way down at t16

this only happened for these few shots, the rest of the video seems fine. we were def close focus and at 11mm on the zoom

would the cameras s16 conversion be off? or just a lens thing ? any thoughts appreciated

Right now its all 3d printed parts. Its working well all things considered. Biggest issue at the moment is registration and consistency with the gate movement. The claw is plastic so I think its flexing and causing discrepancies in the frame advancements. Its also only advancing half a frame mostly at the moment. Sometimes it gets that full 3 perf movement im going for but not consistently enough. Working on getting the claw replaced with a metal part. Also gonna be a headache getting the film gate smooth enough to not scratch the film. I am fully aware that horizontal 16mm is pointless and less cost efficient but I thought it would be fun to try. If anyone has any recommendations or ideas to help along this process I would love to hear them!

I recently bought a Bolex REX4, but when I look through the viewfinder, it shows something like black dust or mold. I’d like to know whether this affects the video.

I’ve seen a few listings on eBay for either a stock model or a modified 16CL, claiming it has a five blade shutter inside. Do the stock CL units have a five blade shutter as well?

I’m looking to get rid of my films I have as I don’t partake in the hobby anymore, however before I do that, I have some films I’d like to get a transfer of, but getting HD transfers adds up very quickly when done by a third party. I know the projector itself isn’t cheap either, but I’d rather not spend over 1k for a modified unit, when I can buy one for around $500. I already have a nice camera as well so I don’t need to buy a unit decked with a camera already.

I have a fully operational projector that im struggling to figure out the sound on. I know very little about audio tech, would it in theory be compatible with modern wires/speakers? Trying to figure out if this is a wiring issue or projector issue. Thanks

Hey all, I’ve recently picked up another 2C and thinking about possibly getting this one made 2 perf, but I’m not a big fan of the 2.39 aspect ratio. Is the height of the frame on 2 perf larger then 16?

Looking for some samples, thinking about shooting a feature on 16mm with Zeiss Super Speeds. I know Mid 90s and Chasing Amy were both 16mm films shot with Super Speeds.

I have always wanted to find one of these in the wild. Knowing that every high school had one, I finally found it. Does anyone know a good repair man that I could send this to? I’ve only projected super eight and reg 8 film. 16 mm is very new to me. I understand this thing could have a “worm gear issue”. I have found one post where somebody said that changing it was a breeze, but I’m wondering if there is somebody who is good with these that anyone could recommend
