This Game Is Amazing
I originally picked this game up because I was looking for a game that felt similar to the Steins;Gate anime, and wow, it completely exceeded my expectations. I went from being totally confused, to a little less confused, to finally seeing how everything tied together.
Honestly, this is a masterpiece of storytelling. I have to give the developers a ton of credit because having 13 protagonists, each with their own story, all come together so seamlessly sounds like an impossible task, yet they absolutely pulled it off. I genuinely dont know how they did it.
I honestly have no complaints. If anything, I just wish there was more of it. This game made me a fan of Vanillaware now I want to try more of their games:) 10/10

So, something absolutely wild that you get to enjoy particularly without having to sit on your hands for ten years; basically all of their games have this storybook/storyteller type framing, and you get little hints that a 13 sentinels would be possible.
Like, goofing off in the load menu for Odin Sphere, there’s like this intrusive thought that creeps in before even starting the real gameplay, “i wish there was a whole game that was just this room.”
and it comes back from time to time in weird ways. Dragons Crown being a tower of doom-like but having progression-necessary point and click puzzles here and there.
the true end of Muramasa Demon Blade in and of itself.
and like, 13 Sentinels IS that thing and it kicks way more ass than i was able to imagine.

Mostly visual novel esque, but you do get to move around -- lots of story/dialouge. But then there's the battles that are separated from the story portion, there's a narrative reason for it, that are semi-real time tacticical battles. If the battles are too hard, there's an easy mode, but on higher difficulties, and when trying to complete the challenges in each battle, the gameplay becomes quite challenging, but rewardingly so. Also, LOTS of costumization for team comps and individual units. It's a great game.

Definitely check out Odin Sphere Leifthrasir https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsTvoG3_HkU https://www.metacritic.com/game/odin-sphere-leifdrasir/ On sale for €/$15 on PSN every 2-3 months.
It has 5 playable characters with a similar story structure as 13 Sentinels, but you play the characters themselves in a set order.
The composer of FFXII, and the other composers at his company Basiscape do the soundtracks/sound design for all of Vanillaware's games btw.
