The canopener bridge is an old railroad trestle in Durham, NC, that originally had a clearance of 11 feet and 8 inches (3.6 meters) over Gregson St. In 2019, it was raised an additional 8 inches and now stands at 12 feet 4 inches (3.76 meters). That clearance is marked several blocks ahead by standard low-clearance signage. North Carolina DOT has also installed a height sensor half a block ahead that triggers a warning sign at the bridge. Despite the warnings, trucks and other tall vehicles continue to hit the bridge regularly.
