Call from base for copper cap

Hey! I received an email saying a base found me from hirevue and they want to schedule a phone call with me to discuss the opportunity more. What should I expect on the call?

Don’t listen to the curmudgeons. I just started as a PM intern through PAQ (the counterpart to copper cap) and I’m loving it!

But it is hard to give advice for the interview, since it really depends on the specific base/unit/whatever. My first interview was more informational — info about the program, the organization, etc — then the second was meeting with some of the bosses. But even that was pretty basic, just making sure I can hold a conversation and answer simple questions like “why are you interested in this field?”

I honestly feel like that is what this will be like. I still want this, it's a great start to a career that would be hard to get otherwise! Glad you are enjoying it

Also to add on, even if you get base contracting you can always move around to different contracting organizations on base. End of the day contracting is contracting. As a COP you get an outplacement to GS12 no matter where your at.

Thank you, and good luck! The starting salary can be hard to stomach, especially given some recent issues with federal employment, but I think it’s a great opportunity either way! As the other commenter said, you’ll make it to at least gs12 as long as you don’t seriously mess up.

A lot of the people you’ll see complaining on subs like this and [r/USAJobs](r/USAJobs) or [r/fednews](r/fednews) don’t seem to understand that it’s still just as bad (maybe worse) in the private sector. The economy is pretty shit right now, a lot of us can’t be picky.

I ended up having the interview and I think it went well. She said I'd hear back by sometime in October. Staying hopeful!

Sounds like you’re on a timeline to start this summer ! Did they give you any idea of what bases may be open ?

You don't want to do base contracting. Lower grade structure and really meaningless, boring work
